best brace i ever had

I found the Freedom leg while searching for alternatives to crutches and a knee scooter after I tripped and was told I had a Jones Fracture and would be NWB for 6 to 8 weeks. Nothing really prepares you for having your independence taken away in a second and having to learn how to do everything with one leg. Crutches are terrible they hurt and you can't carry anything. The knee scooter was a definite improvement but still very frustrating trying to get into tight spaces and a lot of household tasks were difficult such as emptying the dishwasher, taking out trash, basic cleaning and making meals. I have to admit I was pretty excited and hopeful when I found the Freedom Leg. When I received it I immediately tried it on. At first it was a little intimidating and I struggled with it but I was determined to figure it out because it was a chance to be able to walk hands free again. I practiced everyday for a couple hours making many adjustments with the straps to get it comfortable. I also used a cane for the first few days which felt safer. The first thing I noticed when putting it on was how good it felt to stand up again. The brace is very strong and supportive and feels very safe once you learn to trust it. After a few days of using it I no longer use the cane and can do most things I need to around the house so much easier. I can only use it for a few hours a day because my knee will get sore from being in a slightly bent position but its worth it. The Freedom Leg makes NWB tolerable by giving me some independence back. If you are in a NWB situation I would definitely recommend trying it out. I also watched several YouTube videos on how to properly use it which helped a lot!

I've been using this brace now for about a couple of weeks. It has been so great to get off crutches. I can't use a knee scooter, and the peg legs are terrible on my knees. I'm NWB for months so I really need something else, and, while it's not perfect, it's allowed me to do things I otherwise couldn't. It also allows me to keep the glute and thigh going, as well as retain centerline balance. As my "good" ankle is also recovering from being broken (minor), I am using a cane since that ankle is also not in great condition. I'm in my 50s but in decent shape, with a tall CAM boot, and had no trouble adjusting to the brace almost immediately thanks to instruction videos and how to sort of sit into the thigh. I had a small issue with the Freedom Leg when I got it, but the customer service was fantastic.

I broke my tibia plateau about 3 weeks ago and struggled to manuver on one leg with either crutches or a walker since I'm NWB until the break heals. I'm a very active 74-year old woman, going to the gym 3 days a week and walking 1.5 miles a day. This was a major setback and the loss of independence was crushing. I've had my FL for about 10 days now and am finally feeling comfortable with it. I'm small, 5'3" and 115 lbs. so the leg felt very heavy at first. Thankfully, I've gotten used to the weight, but I wonder if they might consider a smaller, lighter version for those of us in the petite category. At last, I'm feeling like I might be able to walk without a walker for balance and will try a cane in the next few days. It took lots of trial and error with the height and getting the hips level. My biggest problem were the shin pads. Ouch!!! After trying a host of solutions that failed, I finally now protect my shins with 3 layers---a soft one next to my skin, a slightly thicker one next, and, of all things, an oven mit! Yes, crazy, but it provides the perfect amount of protection and padding for me. One reviewer mentioned that having the shin straps nice and tight in the back is what kept the leg from slipping up and down too much, which was a problem I was also having. I keep them tight now, which helps enormously, then loosen them a bit when I'm sitting. Wore the FL to my first ortho doctor appointment and he had never seen one before. He googled it while I was with him and he was really impressed. So much that he told me the FL was the only brace I needed. Doctor approved!! So my advice to new users is to keep adjusting until it feels right, add padding if you need it, trust that "sitting" in the brace works, know that your thigh can handle it, and hang in there. Eventually it all comes together.

I broke my fibula and was told no weight bearing and given a pair of crutches. There are 16 stairs to my house and the crutches were impossible. I thought there has to be a better way and googled medical appliances to prevent weight bearing and learned about the Freedomleg. My orthopedist had never heard of it. While a bit expensive, it was covered by my insurance. This was a game-changer and I am 76 years old. It is a bit awkward to get used to, but it made it possible for me to go up and downstairs without on my backside (down) and knees (up). When using it, it is helpful to have shoe with a thick sole on the other foot (think Hoka) because the leg wearing the brace is longer.

Live in NYC. Started wearing my Freedom Leg brace a week after meniscus root repair surgery. Non-weight bearing for 6 weeks. If not for this brace, I would not be mobile in the city. Walk about 3.5 miles/day just commuting to work and normal walking throughout the day. So many people have stopped me commenting how hard it was for them on crutches and how they could only take cabs/uber around the city. Expensive and time consuming. I’m 3 wks out of surgery and have navigated the subway, busses, stairs and sidewalks - now independently with hands free to carry my bag and even a coffee!! Fitted the brace pre-surgery and practiced walking, balancing. Post surgery, started using the brace at home and short blocks in wk 2, building to subway and longer blocks with my husband alongside. My surgeon and physical therapist have seen me in it and also think it’s great, especially for a walking city. Really grateful for this invention. Can’t tell you how much getting out independently means to me. Thank you!

The very BEST way to manage non-weight bearing recovery. I will still use a knee scooter for just getting around, but FreedomLeg allows me to do all the little chores like washing dishes, cooking meals, and clothes washing/drying. No way has the knee scooter helped me with those efforts. Roger has been excellent with his customer service, explaining and supporting my needs by sending me extra pads to further stabilize my leg when using FreedomLeg. My doctor was amazed by FreedomLeg and I hope he encourages others to use this freeing device.

On another note, I wish I had discovered FreedomLeg for my first surgery! Because I could NOT keep my foot non-weight bearing then, I have just gone thru my 2nd surgery for the same foot because the bones in my foot would not fuse due to movement of foot. I believe I would not have needed the 2nd surgery if I had had FreedomLeg to keep my leg non-weight bearing.

I am actually a doctor and a patient. I had reconstructive foot surgery and need to be non-weight-bearing for eight weeks and cannot drive due to it being my right foot. As a former D1 athlete, I am no stranger to post surgical recovery. I have crutches and a knee scooter and each are useful but problematic due to having a right knee replacement and on the scooter all the weight will be transferred to that knee and also dealing with some mild arthritis in my thumbs, making long-term crutching more difficult. But the freedom leg truly allows me to be hands-free and to ambulate up and downstairs without difficulty. I love that I have various mobility aids that allow me to navigate different ambulatory challenges. The freedom leg is a game changer.

Took a few days to get adjusted correctly and figure out how to walk with it. But now I walk everywhere. Only thing I don’t like is the rubber foot on the bottom has a slit in the top. I wear my freedom leg to feed animals outside in corrals and that slit fills up with dirt.

Great leg brace!! Despite having unusually thin thighs, the brace fit well and was very comfortable. It was easy to walk in it and definitely it is an enormous aid to mobility. Very high quality construction as well. Customer service was excellent. We returned the brace for reasons unrelated to the brace itself, and the return process was smooth and easy. FYI many insurances cover this as a medical device - please check with them!

This company gets it!

I had an ankle arthrodesis in early November and the first 4 weeks were brutal. I was told 12 weeks of non-weight bearing was minimum. I am very active and immobility doesn’t work well for me. I came across the Freedom Leg and decided to ask my surgeon if I could try it. He told me yes and to let him know so he can refer others. It arrived very quickly. I’m delighted that I decided to get this equipment. It’s easy for me to use. I’m able to go up and down stairs and can carry items in hand. I can also bend down, walk nice distances and resume daily activities without major limitations. If I could change one thing it would be the uncovered velcro pieces that stick to clothing. I ruined a pair of my favorite leggings but it is what it is. Highly recommend!

Our 15-year old son broke his tibia in jiu jitsu and had to have emergency surgery. The doctor said no weight-bearing for six weeks, which sounded like an eternity. I showed him Freedom Leg and they were agreeable to trying it.

At week two our son felt comfortable enough to give it a shot. He took to it almost immediately and is going on two weeks with it now. It is great to get him out and about, socializing with friends again and he even was able to get to the chiropractor for an adjustment.

I submitted for insurance reimbursement but even if that is denied, this is an affordable solution to improve quality of life dramatically during recovery.

This brace is the best! Think of it as the superior alternative to using crutches.
I am an active, 60 year old lady who is 5’2, who just had foot surgery and will be off my foot (non-weight bearing) for at least the next 2 months. I used a scooter, not the Freedom leg for the first 2 weeks because things needed to heal first and I fell over a least three times on the scooter (hurting my surgery area in the process).
But once I started wearing my Freedom Leg 3.0 I have had no problems. I can walk up and down the stairs, do laundry, vacuum, do dishes, etc. I do use a cane when walking long distances or difficult situations like the stairs or crowds) going into the yard or getting into the car while my husband drives me. It is slippery on a wet floor. I found this out while steam mopping the floor with it, so be careful. I love this thing and highly recommend it!! I have actually felt comfortable going to Costco on a Saturday and to a crowded dinner reception with it on.
I do recommend you get it before your surgery if at all possible. That way you can adjust it to fit correctly before the real event AND you can practice walking with it with confidence before you no longer can. I found that to be a huge benefit for me and my situation. Also, after I got it, I had two questions about the product at two different times before my surgery and when I called they were always available and helpful. During my first visit to my foot doctor after surgery he asked me about it. He had not heard of it. At my second visit the doctor said they were so impressed that they are recommending it to other patients. And as I walked out of the building another one of his patients just stared at it in wonder and asked what it was and where to get it cause thats what she needed, lol. She was on a knee scooter. Yes, I truly recommend this thing. Also, I don’t EVER use social media but I wrote a review on the Freedom Leg 3.0 because it has changed my life for the better for the last few weeks while I heal. They send you a item but it didn’t work for me they have a no questions ask policy if you call to return it within 14 days we were calling every day multiple times a day didn’t get an answer till multiple days later we returned the item in perfect condition now 4-6 weeks later we still haven’t received a refund
