Good idea but too many scammers!
I went to try to find a puppy through Petfinder which is usually respectable. But this gettourpet.com is awful. I contacted two people and both tried to scam me by asking for money before meeting them and the dog saying they need the money to get the paperwork together etc. the rules of the site are very specific in order to protect from scams. You don’t contact them outside of the site and you definitely don’t pay them anything. They were very helpful and removed the two people I dealt with but then right away the same dog is up with a different owner name so I messaged them again. I think if they could vet the site better then it could be a great place. But no one is giving away a French bulldog for $199. If it’s too good to be true it most likely is.
What a terrible experience
What a terrible experience. My husband and I were interested in a Bichon Frise named Bobby. We contacted owner Paul about meeting up. He agreed but then throughout the morning he kept saying that he needed 80 dollars for his vet to transfer the ownership papers and then came back 3 times saying the vet hadn't received the payments through PayPal. He then asked for 150 dollars so he could get the dog a new cage and special food. Lesson learned the hard way.
Great concept that falls far short of its goal!
The concept behind this website is genius. Safe, protected re-homing of loved pets. It's a win-win for both the guardian and the adopter.
They say they have an algorithm they use to weed out scammers. It doesn't work. The right algorithm should spot the scammers almost immediately - certainly not 5-6 days later when a letter is written to the GetYourPet to tell them someone is a scammer.
Almost all the pups I've looked into - over a 100 since the loss of one or our pups in May 2022 - were being sold by scammers. All wanted money for things that are free, all wanted contact outside of the GetYourPet website, all gave answers that made no sense, most gave conflicting answers from message to message. Once their accounts were suspended, the pup would be placed on the site again with a different guardian - same pictures, different name, same puppy accessories, conflicting reasons for why they are looking to re-home.
This website is filled with scammers - be careful, follow the rules of the website, use only the website platform to communicate. I am sure there have been successful adoptions, but scammers abound.
Scammers
I reached out to Kevin who had a chiwawa for adoption after making a meet appointment at the petco he send me a message that the vet needed $100 for the adoption papers to be paid thru Zelle or cashapp. I then messaged Kevin back and told him I would have to cancel because I’m not paying anything only the $199 to the website. And surprisingly enough we lost further communication !! SCAMMER!
Don’t waste your time with this site. Full of scammers, they know it and let it go on
I had great hope for this site but I was a fool and should’ve remembered that if something seems too good to be true it is. First, I reached out to Mike about Finn. He was nice enough and eager to meet but Finn was my 2nd choice and I knew there was time. Louie was my first choice and after setting up the meet up, he began asking me for money. Eventually I sent it but my bank refused the transaction. The $$ was for vet fees but I was sending it to his zelle, then cashapp, then his wife. I told him that he was making me uncomfortable and was no longer interested and he still kept sending me messages. I wrote to the site and when they got back to me, they said the David’s account was being closed and I shouldn’t engage. Still I had hope and went back to the site today. Louie is still there, listed “new” only now he has a different gauadian. Finn is still there as well but Mike is no longer his Guardian, David is. The same David formerly with Louie. If David is/was a scammer why is the dog still listed and how is David, now Finn’s guardian. At this point the entire site and concept is a scam and should be shut down. Finn is actually listed in another bad review below and he is still on the site. NUTS!!!. I tried to do the right thing by going the adoption/rescue route and its been a nightmare. I am no longer interested, think its all screwed up and Im going to spend 2500 and get the dog I want, from people that really have the dogs and people who really exist. Such an unbelievable disappointment.
Good process, Great experience
I was able to quickly and inexpensively find the Beagle puppy I wanted to adopt. When using getYourPet.com, pay ONLY the adoption fee. Pay it ONLY to getYourPet, and ONLY pay AFTER you take possession of the pet. NO OTHER Charges should be asked for. No, not even vet records or pedigree transfer, (nothing else!) Use the site tools, methods, and some common sense to insure a great experience.
First person I spoke w already asking…
First person I spoke w already asking me for money for vet records. I work for a vet. They are free. Dogs name is Finn supposed to be a boy mini Aussie. Guy says yea I have her the mini poodle and super aggressive about meeting up and Zelle. When I said I’m inquiring about Finn. He said he had 2 dogs lmao. Get it together scammer. Btw Finn is a mini Australian shepherd and super cute! All lies!!!! Idk if I’ll even try to adopt from here anymore. Bad experience from first person.
The website is full of scammers
The website is full of scammers. I was communicating with Lucas about a French Bulldog named Gobby. This dog does not exist! Lucas will insist that you give him money for paperwork before you can meet the dog. When I refused to pay him he said that he did not trust me and stopped communication.
There's so many scanners on this site
There's so many scanners on this site. Would have notice the most scammers are usually with small dogs..you will exchange text..set up greet and meet and then they will text saying they have to get vet information to have it transferred in my name..and then they will claim veg charges. I've had someone ask for $170.00..$70.00 and $80.00 that I should send to them online to pay vet. If this happens to you..please don't send money..dog or cat you see on line us not their pet. Getyourpet. Buyer gives 199.00 to get your pet after you pick your pet up. If this happens to you. I like to ask them to send vet name and location. They will stop messaging after that.there are however legit pet owners on getyourpet.. I did have two meet and greets.but unfortunately I did not take home with me.
SCAM!SCAM!SCAM!
SCAM!SCAM!SCAM!
The seller using the alias Andrew was selling two Chihuahuas. His other alias is Fred. I met him because I had to pass right by the meeting place. He started complaining that he didn't have Lucky's vet papers because the vet wouldn't give them to him. I told him that it wasn't a problem because his vet can email them to me. When my husband and I pulled up there was a young guy sitting on a bike. He said his name wasn't Andrew but Kendall. He showed me his driver's license but I explained a scammer wouldn't use their real name. He showed me a picture of his dog that just so happened to be a Chihuahua. He kept repeating he wasn't Andrew. He left to pickup a sandwich and come back. I went up to him and told him I knew he was running a scam. He thought he was very clever but I messaged him, by his real name Kendall, and he answered me. I told him next time not to answer when he's using his real name. I think this whole page is a scam. If you need to honestly re-home your dog ask a legitimate rescue if they would do a courtesy listing. Stay FAR away from this page. Now I will continue reviewing on Google and yelp.
A lot of scammers on this site apparently
Attempted to adopt a pet from the site. Seemed too good to be true and was. the individual asked for $80 to pay for some vet transfer which I paid. Then came back an hour or so later saying he forgot he needed another $100 to change breeder ownership or something. I refused and he broker off conversation and kept my money.
We put in for a dog got scared
We put in for a dog, contact lady needed $200 fir vet and paperwork. Reluctantly we sent it . Today on way to meet and greet, she needed 300.00 more for vet and license. Back and forth, now no contact at all. Still has our 200.00
Great Experience!
I have been looking for another Chihuahua for quite some time. I came across this app from Petfinder. I saw Ginger, who was in my area, and the rest is history! This app is quick, easy, so helpful, and doing the right thing for pets and owners that wish to re-home their beloved pets.
Scammer overload
New on there. 3scams already, sure it's the same guy,NY location. All French bulldog puppies. He rushed me to do a meet request. Next, he's asking my full name, number, email&for $80(cashapp or zelle,) for paperwork on a 4m old puppy. Vets give you copies&don't charge. You should have the paperwork if your puppy is that small.Point is, don't click on the Frenchies. There are some actual owners looking to rehome pets, but the size I'm seeking, temperment, shots up to date, fixed, etc make it a journey.Seems scammers don't like answering valid questions.Or sometimes thier dogs info doesn't add up.How is a 3m old puppy large(41-75lbs)?Why is the breed a lab,but it's a French bulldog puppy&one photo isn't even the same puppy!Adopters, beware. You're prey.
We had a very positive experience!
We had a very positive experience. The owner was legit and excellent with communication. We met up twice, the second time to adopt our new dog! We were never asked for money or personal information. It's a shame so many people out there want to take advantage. It seems this site does what it can to make the meet-ups official and documented but it can't keep people from being dishonest. Had there been any red flags we definitely would have walked away. Our new pup is a wonderful addition to our family!
Don't go on this. Site is fake
Putting one star down is only because I had you to move on. That's overrating get your pet. So for the last 2 weeks I try everyday. I've had three no answers. Not a response whatsoever and I've had five scams. I lost $650 on the first one the other ones. Keep trying to get me. It's the same guy cuz he starts out the same way he starts out the conversation differently each time. One time will be casual a little bit more professional but then he starts with the paperwork and getting the documentations necessarily and he needs 60 or 50 or $100 for the paperwork. Which vets do not charge you four so he thinks that we're all a bunch of fools who are on there. Which I guess I was the first time. But I'm not going to be the second, third, fourth and 5th time. I haven't had one single real pet on there. It's all a scam. Stay far away. Don't get your kids hopes up because they don't screen it. They put it right back up there. The guy changes his name keeps the dog picture. It keeps the dog's name that I lost $650 on and just changes his location when indeed he's in Texas. Last week he was in Stanford. Now he's in Queens this week. So the dogs are the three small French bulldogs. Do not call them. They're scams. I reported it but they'll probably put it right back up tomorrow like they did with Finn. They are Australian dog are all fake. Probably every single one on there is. I'm beginning to think 5 out of six are
Eight (8) times I have engaged with…
Eight (8) times I have engaged with someone in regards to a pet, and all 8 times it wound up being a scammer.
It’s nice that they remove the scammers, but perhaps they need to vet people. Ore thoroughly before they let them post an add.
At the moment I have zero faith that I will ever find a pet through this app.
I was waiting to get scammed.
Spent a lot of time on a lot of different websites, trying to find the right dog to add to our family. After a few weeks of trying, and failing on all fronts (craigslist, local shelters, facebook groups, etc) I decided to give GetYourPet my final attempt at finding a new pup. The website was slightly confusing in how it worked, and if I'm honest, I couldnt tell if this site was even legit or not. But this was my hail mary, so I threw caution to the wind and signed up. I ran into the perfect dog (an all black Cane Corso) on my first search. Honestly, the whole thing looked too good to be true and I was fully prepared for it to be fake. I gave it a shot (because why not) and reached out to the owner. To my suspicious surprise, I had an actual dialogue with this owner, and made actual plans to meet. But until I saw this pup with my own eyes, I was fully expecting this to turn into a scam, or find out that there was a catch. Maybe I'm too cynical. But long story short, after one meet up, I brought her home :)
Ive read lots of horror stories on here about scams and terrible adoption situations, but ours was the absolute opposite. Maybe we we're one of the lucky ones. But our new baby girl is exactly what we expected and hoped she would be.
So, while bad users seem to be the biggest issue, we're proof that there are legit people on there that just want to be good humans and find a good home for their pet.
TLDR: Use good judgement when looking for a new pet on here, and know what you're getting into. Scammers exist, BUT, there are absolutely legitimate and good people on there too.
