This company is operating illegally
I have stayed in self-catering apartments and hotels all over the USA and internationally, and this apartment rental by Riverview Apartments T/A (trading as) Glasgow Apartments is by far the worst experience I have ever had. The ONLY thing it had going for it was location, and even that was iffy. (Close to shopping and public transportation, but a very rough area of Glasgow, especially at night.)
The 3-bedroom apartment, #3 on the 10th floor, was NOT as advertised on the official company website or on Booking.com. Yes, it was spacious, but almost everything was a shambles. Vertical blinds throughout the unit were broken and would not open or close properly. In the full-size bedroom, you could feel the springs through the old mattress. Bathroom towels were badly worn, threadbare and stained. There was only one tiny bar of soap, inadequate amounts of toilet paper, and no shampoo. Black gunk everywhere that was probably mold.
Only two of the six dining room chairs were functional - the rest wobbly and too loose to sit in. Kitchen utensils and small appliances were dirty, rusty/pitted or dysfunctional. The dishwasher didn't work - either broken or we weren't given adequate instructions on how to use it. (We also were not met by someone on staff the first day, so didn't have a clue - not being Scots or European - how to turn on the heat or refrigerator until day 2.) There were only a few dish towels, no hot pads/oven mits, no cereal and milk, as promised. And the list goes on.
The lift broke on a weekend evening and wasn't fixed until the next day. We had to hike up 10 flights of stairs and I have a heart condition. (This has happened to other occupants, as well; just Google ALL the negative reviews.)
The leasing agents were very difficult to get hold of. And one of them - Fiona - was an unprofessional bully who threatened to kick us out when I complained and asked for a refund.
Toward the end of our stay, we found out why. Their leasing company - Glasgow Riverview Apartments - is in "liquidation," a UK condition similar to USA bankruptcy. They are not even legally allowed to do business under that name; so they very slyly took our money under another of their multiple company names. But it explains why so little upkeep has been done to the apartment.
They had glowing reviews on Booking.com, but I'm no longer convinced they are from real people. I'm sorry I didn't do my "due diligence" before booking. Buyer beware!
UPDATE: weeks after our departure, the leasing agents have continued to harass me via Whatsapp messaging.
