Cowboys calling themselves window fixers
Two guys (fixer and assistant) came to fix a big and a small window. Both were stuck and didn´t open or close.
They came the day after I called, no problem with time. While they were working I had a gut feeling that he was not doing things right by the way he was hammering the window. I asked a couple of questions about the way he was working, but all I got was "I have been doing this for 30 years". So, I had to trust that he knew what he was doing.
When they fixed the windows, I opened and closed the big one to check it, and although it did open and close, the way the big window tilted was not right. I told them and the man said it was they way it was because it was an old window. I even found a screw on the window sill and asked about it saying they had missed a screw from the hinge. They said the screw was not from the window and it was there before, which of course was not true. They decided to take the screw with them.
As I saw that the big window was opening and closing, even if not totally right, I let it be as I did not want to argue. Two days later the window broke again.
This man (he said his name was Darren) had quoted us £185GBP per window, but when they left he requested another £74 claiming they had used part of a second hour. He had never mentioned the possibility of an overcharge beforehand. Again, I made a comment about it but the guy insisted I had to pay that amount. I did.
Two days later the big window stopped working. I called him to ask him to come back and check it, I left him several messages and he has never called back or bothered to answer to any of my messages. All I got at one point was "I will book you in". I finally got a few messages exchanged on which he said he has to book me in, he is not in the area, he is on annual leave... But when i first called them they gave me a slot the very next day, so of course he is now stalling us.
This was three weeks ago and he has never bothered to call back and of course he never had any intention of doing it. My small window broke 10 days after he "fixed" it. Both my windows are broken now. We are in the same situation as before, but now without money.
He knew from the very first moment that his "repairs" would not endure. This is a man boasting that he has been 30 years repairing windows. Well... if all he fixes is like this, then he has been a fraud for 30 years. Someone who takes credit and money for his job should do the job properly in the first place. Or otherwise, be humble enough to say this fixing is out of reach.
One more thing is that I asked this man to send me a receipt with a breakdowm of costs of the money paid, but again, he has never done it and he is not going to.
The name of the company is glazier-london.co.uk, but the money was paid to UK Glaziers, so slightly different name to that on the webpage. Neither of them appear with such names in companies house.
