A very disappointing visit to the…

I have been coming to the Fleece for a long time, recently an attitude in the pub has been diminished by the attitude of the staff.
For example; myself and my peers have been mocked and ostracised in resent months.
I sit with my friends that are all professional people and yet constantly treated with a lower level of service.
Anecdotal evidence proves that the people who spend the most money in this establishment are patronised and abused. This while because regardless of gender and colour we are being treated as less. All anyone expects when they come into a Greene King pub is to be treated with respect. It’s hard to prove but as any person who has worked in the industry knows a bar person can leave someone waiting whilst they serve three other people. This may sound petty but every person who spends significant money in this pub is sick of it and can’t understand why, this level of service has been so diminished, I do wonder if the Fleece cares about its patrons

That I did receive a free meal shift voucher (Big Christmas Shift) Monday 24th November 2025 from Greene King which was a lovely surprise I have to say I was disappointed to the fact was you could only use this on the one day which was the 1st December 2025.
As it clearly states it is a shift meal voucher which is meant for staff workers that work shifts and may not be able to make a festive night out due to working shifts. Well guess what I was on an afternoon shift and could not use this pointless voucher due to Greene Kings restrictions by only being able to use it on one day only!
That I did submit an email on the 24th November 2025 and received an email 26th November 2025 in response which states: "We are sorry to hear of your disappointment and we really want to put it right , I am forwarding your comments onto the Marketing Team for a response and you will be contacted as soon as we have a response. In the meantime, if we require additional information we will be in touch".
Well here we are 4th January 2026 the festive season has now gone and I am still waiting to receive a response from Greene Kings customer service on this matter. To receive this voucher was a nice gesture but sorry it was really pointless and goes against what it was actually meant for.

Well worth a try…

Went to The Woodman in Codsall this morning for a bit of breakfast and some hot drinks. The value was brilliant, the drinks were lovely and the food, which came out quickly, was delicious, a great visit. We were served by Tom and Dan who were both very helpful and polite.

I ordered from the lunch menu and paid at the cashier. I showed my Blue Light Card discount code, and the cashier didn’t say anything or explain any restrictions. Later that evening, when I checked my receipt, I realised I had been charged the à la carte prices instead of the lunch menu price. With the Blue Light Card discount applied, the total actually worked out more expensive than the lunch menu.
I believe the staff should clearly inform customers that using the Blue Light Card discount means the lunch menu price does not apply. Unfortunately, this wasn’t explained at the time. I had to call the restaurant myself to query the issue and request a refund. Although they did refund me eventually, the overall experience and lack of communication made the service feel less than ideal.

I have never ever seen a staff member work like I have today, Claire at The Green Posts North End, single handed managed everyone’s New Years Day orders like an absolute trooper!
She deserves not only a medal but some serious recognition 👌🏻

Recently refurbished always been our go to pub for food being an hungry horse/greene king thought we’d go visit see what was new wish we hadn’t bothered food disgusting we had chicken skewers part of the mix up menu came to table cold they offered to warm up which being chicken no thanks it was dry no peppers onions like it used to be just those chips and a corn on the cob..used to love the half roast chicken with the peppers etc but that’s been removed now so presumed this would be served the same..it was cold bland unhelpful staff I even risked a dessert the candy mania it looked like it was thrown in the bowl I should have taken pictures when I told the waitress she just said I ain’t done it nothing to do with me just unbelievable,I paid our bill and we’re just sat finishing our drinks when a waitress shouts in front of customers don’t forget to pay your tab absolutely shocking 😡when I replied I had done she didn’t even apologise..this place has gone to the dogs I will never step foot in it again refurbished and downgraded

Booked an New Year’s Day afternoon meal at the Old Rectory in Leybourne only to be told booked on separate tables and half the menu isn’t available with a delay of 45 mins due to lack of staff. Will not be booking Greene King pubs again and only wish I could give less than 1 star

Chloe was amazing!

Chloe was amazing, a real credit. She built a great rapport, despite being run off her feet. I saw a max of three staff, with both floors open. They were all fabulous, working SO hard. Chloe stood out though! Only reason it was not 5/5 was the steak was not the best, the grill needed a scrape. I ordered medium, it was well done one side and rare the other! I also paid £7 for a bowl of nachos that were spicy. No dressings, just plain.

Visited the Shakey pub in Sheffield…

Visited the Shakey pub in Sheffield last night and was disappointed to be asked to leave as I had my 16 year old with me. It was approximately 17:30 and was told under 18's were not allowed in after 17:00.
I cannot see this being mentioned on their website, in fact, it appears to be badged as family friendly!
If this is Greene King's policy, that's fine, but it should be clearly advertised.

Christmas Meal Experience totally Wrecked by poor service

We booked 5 months in advance for a christmas meal for four people on christmas day at the Cross Keys public house at Norton Fitzwarren, Taunton,Somerset. We were continuously prompted for our menu choice by email, which was duly submitted. We arrived at 2.45 for our booking, and the wait time for the serving of the meal was 2 hours. When we asked the staff for the reason for delay, we were told there was a problem in the kitchen earlier. No attempt was made to inform us of the delay when we arrived. Having waited two hours for our main course, which never arrived, we decided to leave. I complained to the staff telling them that the service was unacceptable. They were apologetic and refunded our deposit. However, we were unprepared for this poor service, and had not purchased extra food. What was intended to have been a pleasant christmas meal out, turned out to be a nightmare. On the whole, we have been very satisfied with the food and service at this establishment in the past, but after today's experience we will never book any more special occasions there. The staff were totally incapable of providing an efficient service today.

Disappointing Christmas Meal

We booked the Albion in Portishead for a Christmas night out with four friends. We all opted for the Festive Fayre menu on the night of Thursday 18th December at 19.30hrs.
On arrival we were greeted if you could call it that by a less than friendly Barman who turned out to be the Landlord. We were told that our table was at the back of the pub in a room that had been set aside for customers having the Festive menu. We proceeded to the room and found that we had three tables that had been pushed together with a plain cloth runner and a sad Christmas decoration in the middle. There was a Christmas tree in the corner of the room with no lights and very little decoration.
There was a table with around twelve ladies who were also out to celebrate Christmas, and they were also dining from the festive menu.
Five of us chose the three coarse option which cost £21.95 and one person had the two-course option at £18.95 and we all felt that both menus were rather cheap for a Festive meal but perhaps on reflection it was slightly overpriced. Four of us chose the King Prawn Salad on lettuce with lemon mayonnaise. It came with three of the smallest little gem lettuce leaves I have ever seen and with four prawns in the middle although one lucky person had five prawns. These were sat on what I would describe as a dollop of mayonnaise. One person chose the Baked Mini Camembert with Chutney which they said was nice.
For the main course three people chose the Hand Carved Turkey Roast with all the trimmings and three opted for the 8oz Sirloin with Brandy Peppercorn Sauce. Those who had the Turkey were quite pleased with the meal and the quantity served. For those who had the steak it just turned up with no question of how we wanted it cooked, which is the first time I have ever experienced that in any pub where I have ordered steak. It was an 8oz steak and all three turned out to be around 4oz of meat and 4oz of gristle and fat. The dessert course was also very disappointing with two people ordering Eton Mess which is exactly how I would describe what was served. Firstly, we were told that we had only ordered one Eton Mess and not two despite the table of ladies being told that they had one Eton Mess over which was very suspicious and looked like someone had messed up the orders.
The first Eton Mess was basically a dish full of squirty cream with some fruit with a bit of sauce and the second one when it eventually arrived was very much the same. I was under the impression that Eton Mess was served with crushed meringue but obviously the Albion were unaware of this. We also asked if we could order drinks from our table but were told that the waiter didn't have a pen and couldn't remember what everyone required so we would have to go to the bar.
We had a discussion with the ladies on the other table to see what they thought of their meal, and they were also of the opinion that it was very poor, and they especially felt that the Landlord was very rude and abrupt which was a feeling shared by the people in my party. We all agreed that we would have rather paid an extra £10 and had a quality meal.
One thing I would say is that the young girls and the lad serving were very good and helpful unlike their boss. Needless to say, we will not be visiting the Albion in the future.

Noisy, slow and not worth the weight.

Visited the Old Bell in Hemel Hempstead for a family pre Christmas meal. Asked for a quiet table but we were placed in an area with lots of screaming noisy children. It was so loud we couldn’t hold a conversation. I understand children are excitable but these tables were reserved as was ours as mentioned with a request to have a quiet area. We asked if we could move somewhere else but were told this wasn’t possible.
The food took nearly an hour to arrive. It was ok but nothing special and not really worth the wait. The Beef and Ale pie was more gravy than meat. The gammon just like a slice of bacon.
The puddings took over 30 minutes to arrive and then were also very disappointing the White Chocolate Blondie went uneaten as it was very stodgy and unappetising.
The staff were pleasant and friendly but also seemed rushed in everything they were doing. On the whole it wasn’t an enjoyable experience.

Outstanding service from the Quaker wood in Woodthorpe York, fantastic staff, could not have done enough for us as a party of 12, great food. Becks, Jack and the team are excellent, they always go above and beyond. Thank you.

Rude service

Went to the Nickelodeon Greene King Willenhall. Came from London to take my son for a meal. The staff person Phoebe was rude not even a smile. She wouldn't let us change our mind when ordering drinks stating that she already typed it in to the till. She just wandered off all the time when serving us and then decided to change the barrel. Made us buy the drinks that were typed into the till. Then got rude when I asked if I can pay for the meals separately and then got awkward when I wanted a receipt. Was a poor service.

The Green Dragon

The Green Dragon, Youngs End, Braintree, visited Thursday 11 December 2025, party of three, one member in a wheelchair. Food was up to the usual excellent standard, at no time did we feel rushed. Our waitress Mel was attentive and happy to help in any capacity. Will definitely return

Went to the Bluebell Farm in Worcester

Went to the Bluebell Farm in Worcester. First off the food was nice and good value. However the service was terrible. We had someone else's food delivered to our table twice. Then when we ordered our dessert it didn't arrive. Questioned the waiter who said it was put to side for takeaway. I showed him my receipt clearly showing it wasn't. He walked off shaking his head. He then brought the dessert with no cream which I asked for and said "well you shouldn't have asked it to be takeaway" which I then had to explain it wasn't. He was very rude and ruined the experience. All I wanted was a sorry from him.

Staff need to learn more awareness

Harvest Moon, Bishops Stortford Herts. Despite the large turnover of staff, they remain polite friendly & knowledged. We live 5 mins away from the pub, thefore very regular users for meals.But when it comes to ordering desserts, many times the staff forget our existence as full awareness goes to other tables. I'ts a shame to end evenings early, but alas, a selection of desserts is always available at Sainsburys next door. We don't complain, so we just simply leave. Yesterday's experience endured a half hour wait for contact to order desserts...Not good! Bottom line, More staff awareness please

Attended tribute show at butchers arms sankey great afternoon the food was excellent compliments to kitchen staff the bar staff where brilliant joined in the fun greenking should give all staff at this pub a Xmas bonus they are keeping this pub going while in transition some of these staff hold down 2 jobs to make ends meet they should be applauded not moaned at well done all
