A scam to keep the deposit
So I rented a car cause my own broke down no real problems with renting it and collecting it but when I brought it back there was no one there at the rental desk only at the car sales desk. The man says oh he's not there but you can leave the keys, no problem I said and off I went only to get an email a few hours later to say I've been fined €250 for heavly soiled in the front now bare in mind the picture they sent me was a small but of blurt that would come off your shoes from getting in and out of the car and then to say smoking in the car which didn't happen. Wouldn't be recommending them to anyone I know unless you want to get the car fully valeted onsite before handing the keys back.

I booked a car online through the dollar.com website. Which falls under the car rental company Hertz. I was quoted £172.89 for three days use of a Nissan juke or equivalent. We were given an Opel crossland.
But before getting the keys to the car. I was rudely spoken to by a member of your staff at the kiosk. He was talking down to me regarding insurance on the vehicle for every day I had it. Which would have been €50 extra a day. Plus they would have had to put a deposit of £5,000 down on a credit card for me to be able to drive away with the car. Which in itself is a joke!! How they can justify adding these extra charges is beyond me.
Avoid at all costs!! If the price is too good to be true then it is!! As we discovered.

I have used Hertz around the globe for many years. Never have I ever experienced such horrible service. When picking up the car there was no acknowledgment of my status. The check out process lasted 30 mins because the sales clerk kept trying to upgrade the car and sell me scam insurance. The car received had damage on every panel. I know for a fact we did not have any damage yet for the first time in my life I received penalties for a scratched tyre. I am certain this was existing damage. They are obviously income generating because they don’t actually invest in their fleet. Do not use the Hertz airport. I wish I read the reviews before I booked.

Robbed of my life's savings
Booked my Hertz's car a few weeks ago. Paid my bill of £257.82 for 3 days hire, I thought that's not bad. Got an Email back to say, when I pick the car up at Shannon airport I would have to pay £119.00 because I was leaving the car at Belfast, George best, city airport, Hertz charged me £140.97. plus another £30 for cross border fee, it's more insurance because your leaving Ireland and driving in another country, Northern Ireland. I was charged £63.00 for super insurance, are else I would have to use my credit card and you have to have £2,000 in your account, I didn't have that kind of money, so had to buy it. I have another payment of £37.80 a day, that's £113.40, what for I don't know. Then a location service charge £22.91, whatever that's for. Then Tax £50.00, then refuelling £99.00 plus file service charge £9.50. I wish I got paid that much for 5 minutes work. Total £528.78. Some how I got a voucher credit, I don't know were that came from, Maby it's to make you feel good for £161.53. So I paid out £257.82 on my mobile and £367.25 when I got to Shannon airport. All together £625.07.i wonder will I ever see a penny or cent go back into my bank account. I know I'll never use HERTZ again, ever.

Hertz at Knock Airport - A cautionary tale
When we arrived at Knock Airport, we had been delayed and the rental company we had hired from had closed early and not left any keys. We asked at Hertz and the Location Manager (James Connaughton) could not have been more helpful. He sorted us out despite it making him late leaving.
Wind the clock forward a week and on returning the vehicle, the returning inspection guy "found" scratches on the vehicle that I certainly couldn't see. I took my own photos and there was nothing to see. Although he claimed scratches on multiple panels, he said that he'd do me a favour and only charge me for one panel repair which was over €1,200 euros. As I had a plane to catch I signed the exit form and commented on it that I could not see any scratches at all. I took my own photos, blew them up, and still couldn't see anything.
When I said that I would dispute the charge, he advised that he'd fill out a new form (and dispose of the one I had signed) and charge me three times the amount for 3 panels ! Outrageous. Hertz have sent me their evidence photos and you can see absolutely nothing on them, except the finger of the agent pointing to something invisible. I will, of course, formally dispute the charge, which has remained at 1 panel.
So, what I never understand about companies is how they can employ customer facing people who give you a great experience, abd then on the back end, people who seem to be there only to destroy your faith and trust in the organisation.
I can't make up my mind whether this is sharp practice or poor practice, but I certainly left with a bad taste in my mouth and wondering if there's a money making element to this for the individual concerned.
I won't be using Hertz again and i travel extensively, that goes without saying.

Resolution at last!
I wanted to provide an update to my complaints. I spoke to P in Customer Service and I must say, P was highly professional and clearly customer focused. The matter has been fully resolved and indeed, it has exceeded my expectations.

What a horrible experience
What a horrible experience, got robbed by this company. Got a 3 days rental, the car came with a warning on dash, steering assistance not working and a crackling noise in the front wheel. We returned the car in the next morning because we didn’t feel safe to travel. We got no money returned, not even for the remaining 2 days that we didn’t use, not even for the insurance. Call them, the employee didn’t let me finish my sentences and hang up on me, very rude.

Quite a staggering reply. Not a mention of the appalling customer service, not the slightest hint of an apology.
Let me be clear on the complaint. You have clearly formed an agreement with economybookings.com to allow them to reserve car hire from both Thrifty and Hertz. You accepted this contract which was paid for in advance of attending the Hertz counter in Dublin. On offer by the same company was fully comp cover which I bought and paid for up front. Only to be met by these two jokers who acted like hard sell merchants as if their commission depended on it. At £26/day it is an extortionate amount to charge. Upon arrival at your counter and following the dreadful encounter with your untrained rude colleagues, you accepted that the rental had been paid for but you chose not to acknowledge the insurance cover provided. If you don’t want them to sell insurance cover on your behalf, then you should brief them accordingly and then they would not sell insurance on behalf of Hertz/Thrifty. The fact is that they did accept the booking and they did offer full insurance cover on your behalf. At what stage do you get to pick and chose which part of that contract, i.e. accept the car rental but selectively refuse the insurance cover?
I presume the full cover is optional as it was forced upon my wife the evening before. We could have chosen to decline full cover and stick with the basic CDW. But your hard sell colleagues forced it through.
Kindly advise?
Simply appalling behaviour by the manager and the inept Josh. Downright rude and dismissive, totally unwilling to assist with the genuine and valid complaint.
I suspect it is a franchise of Hertz as the genuine Hertz team would never behave in such a distasteful manner . I left the counter totally bewildered as to why they feel it acceptable to laugh and wave at a client they have just ridiculed and dismissed. This is not the first time I have witnessed this behaviour from the Hertz team at Dublin Airport. They behave like double glazing sales men, eager for their commission on forcing fully comp insurance on a booking that already had full cover and paid in fFull prior to arriving at the airport.

Rented a car from hertz in Edinburgh in…
Rented a car from hertz in Edinburgh in early march. Paid upfront for the rental and also paid anything outstanding upon leaving the car back. Have just now been charged €119.10 which there is no email confirmation of what it’s for. Contacted customer services who cannot find record of the charge. Have to wait for 7/10 days for them to look into it. Surely a company should be able to find charges that they have made without having to take so long to look into it. Will not be using again regardless of the outcome of their search.

Van Booking
Booked a van with Hertz Ireland to travel from Ireland to Germany to transport furniture for my daughter, after being assured that travel outside to continental Europe was permitted provided breakdown insurance was taken out. I was then quoted the associated hire costs and confirmed the reservation. I then proceeded to book the ferry crossings, breakdown insurance, and hotel reservations. Ten days before the scheduled hire/sailing date, Hertz contacted me to inform that they don't allow the vans to travel outside Ireland and the UK and abruptly cancelled the booking , stating that the agent I had dealt with was new to the job. No apology offered, no suggestions or help offered to find alternatives and no offer of compensation for the ferry booking and other expenses incurred. I don't blame the inadequately trained sales agent - the problem lies with the disastrous management of this company in Ireland.
Update : - I have sent on the booking reference number and associated details. For the record, I had otherwise pre-arranged a booking for travel outside Ireland until this was abruptly cancelled, as described above.

Appalling customer service
I was provided with a vehicle that had a defective tyre pressure light which came on about 60km down a motorway. I came off the motorway to a service station to check, but no apparent issue. On returning the car, the mechanic said "Yeah, sometimes those lights just come on". I asked the receptionist where I could raise this issue, and was advised "By email". No email address was provided. So far, I have been promised a response by a deadline which has not been met. The customer service & quality of communication is just appalling.
Edit: Dear Hertz,
Paul has indeed been in touch. His response addressed only the technical issue of the TPMS but not the abysmal customer service received. The focus purely on the technical matter and failure to address the main substance of my grievance simply exacerbates the issue. The TPMS issue is minor; the customer service failing is far more of an issue.

DO NOT RENT
DO NOT RENT - absolute scam. They will charge your card for hidden fees that are NOT mentioned in any paperwork or receipts provided. AND when you ask them about these fees they will literally IGNORE you!!! TERRIBLE customer service and they rob you blind with no explanation. So incredibly disappointing and unethical.

I recently rented a car from hertz…pleasant, patient and kind- they don’t do them anymore but hertz will change your mind
I recently rented a car from hertz Dublin airport, I was met by a charming pleasant chap, he was friendly and patient, as it took me a while to rummage through my handbag - the ladies reading this will understand! There was a que starting to form behind me at this stage, but this chap on this desk assured me that there was no rush. In all my year travelling and renting cars I must admit that I would return to hertz and this is because of this chap, he done his job to perfection, was patient and kind. You don’t get people like this nowadays. He was from Galway he said after I told him I was returning to attend a family reunion there.
My overall experience was excellent, I was met by a friendly smile, a patient gentleman who reassured me that there was no rush. I seen the negative reviews on here but I have to admit my experience couldn’t be further from them. I’ll be back and I wish them a pleasant and happy new year.

Got me out of a jam.
My son was moving house recently and the van we were using left us down at the last minute . So I rang Hertz van rental in Railway st. Cork where I spoke with William. He was such a pleasure to deal with and his coustomer care a second to none . He is a credit to your company and a Gent. Would definitely use Hertz again if the need should arise .

By far the worst rental experience over…
By far the worst rental experience over decades of renting. Booked and pre-paid for a new shape Renault Megane. Check-in girl at Dublin airport was very unhelpful and said the megane was not available so gave me the equivalent, a Dasia would you believe. When it was obvious they had me over a barrel as I was driving straight to a funeral I decided to take up the matter when I returned the car. The Dasia had warning lights as soon as I left and writhing a matter of hours broke down. When the car was replaced they did so with yet another Dasia, also with engine warning lights lit. The manager at the airport told me to right to their head office, which I did and have heard nothing. I also learnt from their staff that the `Dasia’s always have problems and they actually don’t have Meganes at Dublin airport anyway. Please do not book with Hertz/Dollar or Thyfty as they are all the same company and are actually a franchise owned by a Wexford family

Hire is at the airport but return is off airport, so you need to leave 30 minutes early
