DO NOT RENT from HERTZ Dublin as they are a rip off!
We rented a van for 1 day and although we returned the van in plenty of time before the 24 h rental contract (this can easily be checked on their CCTV), we were charged for an extra day without being told that Hertz will do so. When we returned the van, the guy in reception took the keys, asked if all was OK and said goodbye. When we noticed that an extra €92 was charged, we tried for days to download the return receipt from the online Hertz account. As this was not working, we returned the next week to their office on South Circular Rd only to be told that they don't deal with closed rentals and that we should email customer service, which we did. It's more than 2 weeks now that we have raised a claim for the extra charge they made and no reply and no resolution yet. This is simply STEALING!
Extremely disappointing service. We will NEVER recommend Hertz to anyone!

Terrible service and a rip off

Terrible service and a rip off! Hired a car for 4 days and took it back a day early and when arrived there was no one there so drooped the keys to knock airport main office, Later charged 100 euro for a valet! Car did need a little hoover but did not need a valet (10 minitute hoover) We are not dirty and would not abuse someone else's property and feel like this is a con! They would hoover the car for the next customer regardless.

Hertz Car Rental Dublin Airport

As I was making two separate bookings for car rental this summer I called Hertz Dublin directly to ensure I was getting the best deal. My queries were answered efficiently and honestly by Kamila and she also very kindly made the booking for us. I received a confirmation email from her and everything was very clear. Upon arrival at Dublin Airport, the gentleman serving me was very nice but I admit I was slightly taken back that no-one from the Hertz accompanies you to your rental car for pick up. You are simply told what bay the car is parked in. This means that if you spot any damage to the car not already noted you need to go back into the terminal. Thankfully, this was not my case but Hertz do need to review this. For my second booking, I was served by Nelisha, who was very welcoming and professional. We managed to get a car upgrade as all the luggage would not have fit in the orignal car hired and this was done seamlessly. Drop off for both cars was very quick and no problems. I did have a mechanical problem with one of the wing mirrors, but I called it in immediately and made sure it was added to my notes, so I was not charged at drop off for something I did not break. I must say I am very surprised to read all the negative reviews for Hertz Dublin. Maybe I just got lucky, but I have no complaints and will happily use them again.

Booked a special size van 24 aug 2024…

Booked a special size van 24 aug 2024 over ph gave them my details and requirment. Arrived. Dublin airport. Payed for hire. Given keys wasnt size i required lost buis followimg day because of your company mix up overall. Time spent. 3 hours. Complained was told thats all we have @ had to ask for refund oh well. Cancel payment ypull. Get your payment back. No appoligy from management just said we took your bookimg as over the counter. Booking even though it was pre booked. By ph call and when i went to pick up van. Wasnt a ford tranzit long wheel size instead a little. Tiny van

Don't rent from Hertz Dublin Airport. Insurance fraud.

What went wrong? Mainly the fellow behind the desk didn't give us a choice but to purchase most expensive insurance... or else go somewhere to another rental agency. Insurance was 3x the cost of the rental. We were so tired after an overseas trek that didn't have it in me to go down to Avis.

Not nice Hertz... You lost a regular loyal customet, and apparently many others in this thread.

UPGRADE CHARGE

I hired a car through Ryanair and on arrival at Kerry Airport was offered an upgrade to a different car but with no mention of an additional charge of 170 euro on top of what I already paid to Ryanair. While this was included in documentation I initialed the person I dealt with never mentioned the charge and if this is Hertz policy it leaves a lot to be desired. Any proposed changes to a contract should be verbally spelled out to a customer. I have been offered upgrades for free by other carhire firms.

Booked through Auto Holiday, ended up paying for 3 different insurances.

I booked my car rental through Auto Holiday and paid for their full insurance coverage. However, upon arrival, the agent at the Hertz counter informed me that Auto Holiday's insurance wasn’t sufficient and insisted I take Hertz’s own "supercover" insurance for an additional 300 euros or leave a 3000-euro deposit. Despite my concerns, I reluctantly paid.

I specifically asked the agent multiple times if there would be any further charges afterward, and he assured me that everything was covered. However, after returning the car, I was charged an extra 190 euros for another insurance that was never mentioned. In the end, I ended up paying for three different insurances, totaling nearly 700 euros. The staff misled me, and the lack of transparency was extremely frustrating. I do not recommend Hertz Dublin

Hello JPM, the cover you purchased from Auto Holiday is an agreement between you and them, Hertz is in no way party to this agreement. In the event of an incident we would charge you the full excess amount. The onus would be on you to recoup the charge from your insurer. RENT FROM SOMEONE ELSE PLEASE !!! I can not believe the other reviews here about upcharges being put on to the bill and you do not discover the unauthorized charges until you are at the airport rushing to catch a plane and then see your bill is double what you expected!! I was charged $1247.15 for 1 week of a tuna fish can car rental. I only agreed to approx.$550.00 We had no time to go back and dispute the bill and by the way, they gave the final bill "folded in half " as they made small talk, rushing us to catch their waiting shuttle ....the guy told us to "hurry up." This Hertz is operating a big scam! How can it happen to this many people and my story is identical? Hertz Corp. tells me there is nothing they can do as it is a franchise.....I have emailed and called and heard my husband deny all of their crazy overpriced insurance and yet they refuse to take the fees off...we returned a perfect car and we were literally robbed and then silenced! DO NOT USE HERTZ, they do not care and will not admit their franchise location in Dublin is running a big scam on tourists. Just get out of there and go to the next rental place..Hertz is after you for fees and then lies and says you agreed. I actually had a 60,000 coverage policy with my Chase card--so we already knew we weren't taking the coverage...nothing a customer can do but if I can save one good family...I will at least do that-- because they are unresponsive and do not care about you at all.
The response from Hertz after my review states that we signed off on charges....no we did not off on any charges. We verbally stated no, no, and no way!!!....we signed a pad and they just placed our signature wherever they wanted I guess! Its a scam...they certainly heard us say NOOOOO

Serviced by a grumpy a man , and been charged way more the than I should pay , my day rental should be only €92.59 but Hertz managed build a big bill €188.99 , been charged extra €30 for late fee and I told him I am not late he told me I know but we add €30 after midnight, what a jock , will never rent from Hertz , not happy at all

Staff Misbehavior Shannon Airport

Hi,
Recently i had a bad experience while booking a car from Shannon airport on sat 03/08/2024 we came to reserve a 7 seater car for 2 days and the guy sitting at the counter inspected my Irish license and asked me if i had a previous license i showed him my previous license but the birth year was different due to clerical mistake, i tried to explain the scenario but he was not ready to hear us. he was very rude towards us. Also he was not ready to rent out the car to my friends who have an Irish license. I am already a Hertz customer and he behaved like that. I asked the name of the guys he said to me as Kevin. He said "I am done with you guys" rather than explaining why he doesn't want to give us the car.I hope Hertz company will understand my situation and, facing this traumatic situation, I have decided not to take any rental vehicle from Hertz anymore.

Earlier this week we were helped by Sergio from the Hertz rental service at Dublin Airport. After a frustrating experience with the Budget rental desk, we were happy with the kind and honest service from Sergio. He gave us a clear explanation and overview of the costs and tried to look for the best option for rental cars during our short stay in Ireland. Hertz offers a variety of cars for good prices and I recommend to book with them!

Thankful for the great service from Sergio!

Unhelpful at all

Unhelpful at all. Booked a car with the information provided by the information desk that we could hire without a credit card. Went to collect the car the guy on the desk just wasn’t interested in helping at all wasn’t even willing to change the booking. Explained that we asked before arriving that we don’t have a credit card and this information was provided by their in house information desk. Again would not help asked to speak to the manager who was the most unhelpful manager going. Basically just said “no credit card no car!” And cancelled the booking and said “it’s done I’ve cancelled it ” asked why the information we were given was incorrect and blamed the lady on the desk saying she’s new!. Any excuse in my opinion. joke

Hello, this does not sound like our normal service. A credit card is required to collect all vehicles. A debit card can be used provided our Super Cover is added to the rental agreement.

Never, ever use Hertz. Over €500 still owed to me.

I hired a car from Hertz in Bordeaux Airport on the 29th June, returning the car on the 10th July.

I had prepaid €480 prior to pickup.

I paid €270 for the enhanced insurance plus a €250 hold on my card at the rental location.

As of today, 23rd of July, Hertz have charged me another €270 and have not returned the €250 hold. This results in me being owed over €500 by Hertz.

Their customer service is non-existent, with an infinite loop of IVR options on their line.

Hello Geraint, have you checked that the start of rental hold is still showing on your account? It should drop off when the final end of rental charges are processed. Customers expect to see a refund but this is not the case. The hold is released and drops off the account. As a Hertz franchisee in Ireland we do not have access to rentals in France but if you email customerservices@hertz.ie with your rental reference number we can forward your query to the team in France.

Nie wieder Hertz

Wir hatten einen VW Polo gebucht und bekamen einen "vergleichbaren" Wagen: einen Dacia Sandero. Wenn wir mal vergleichen, dann fällt schonmal auf, dass der günstigste Dacia Sandero 11.000 € kostet, während der günstigste VW Polo für 21.000 € zu kriegen ist. Ich habe noch nie ein so billig verarbeitetes Auto gesehen, geschweige denn gefahren. Die Straßenlage ist grottig, die Sitze sehr unbequem, weil aus einfachem Schaumstoff und das Cockpit mit der "Klimaanlage" ist einfach nur lächerlich. Die Verbindung zu einem Mobiltelefon ließ sich leider nicht herstellen, obwohl wir es mit zwei unterschiedlichen Fabrikaten probiert haben. Die Warnleuchte für den Reifendruck könnte nicht ausgeschaltet werden, wobei mich ohnehin wundert, dass ich bei einem Leihwagen Luft nach pumpen muss. Dabei habe ich festgestellt, dass die hinteren Reifen zwar neueren Datums waren, die vorderen Reifen jedoch kaum noch Profil hatten. Das hätte der TÜV so niemals durchgehen lassen. Ich fühle mich von Hertz hinter das Licht geführt, denn wenn ich einen VW Polo buche, dann bin ich durchaus bereit, einen vergleichbaren Wagen zu akzeptieren, aber nicht einen nicht verkehrssicheren Dacia Sandero. Dann kann ich gleich die billige Version buchen. Nie wieder Hertz.

Hello Jan, we do not guarantee car make or model. All vehicles are grouped by ACRISS code specification system which is the industry standard car classification code. For tire pressure sensor you should check the tire pressure at the nearest garage before resetting the sensor.

Sketchy.

Where to start. This is a scam, please please please do NOT rent from here. I purchased this from a third party and was offered insurance, they simply said to say no to the insurance offered when I pick up the car. I've rented before and always denied insurance so no big deal, right? Wrong. Dead wrong. If you don't get their insurance they try to charge you €5000 which is $7500CAD which is absolutely insane. I got a fiat, the thing probably wasn't even worth that much. So anyways my cards won't accept a charge that much because it is indeed a charge. It's a "hold" but it is charged to your card. So anyways to drive away with this car I had to pay what ended up being $300CAD+ for insurance and still another $3000CAD+ being held on my card. I just traveled to multiple countries across Europe and Canada, not a single one pulled this. I still have the 554 pictures of this fiat on my phone because while it was refunded I'm just waiting for them to come back at me and try to steal it. It feels like a scam because it is but maybe they were happy with the $300 for insurance. The fiat itself was starting to have squeaky brakes when I picked it up and by the time I dropped it back it was full squeak. A fine car overall I suppose but I totally got ripped off and feel for anyone else who they did this to as well. The icing on the cake? I emailed them for documents because I had purchased insurance online when I booked the car, third party insurance which became null and void the second I was forced to purchase their insurance. To get a refund they wanted the receipt from when I dropped off the car stating the damage, etc. I did not receive this, so I emailed them, as of today it has been officially a month since I sent that email and have gotten zero response. Steal my money and then ignore me? Classy. Did get the other money I paid for insurance back as not everyone is as sleezy as this company thankfully.
As per the Hertz reply, if only they made that insane amount as transparent when booking. The fact that they don't says enough for me to know I will never book with them again.

Hi Emma, if collision damage waiver (CDW) is declined, you will be responsible up to the full replacement value of the vehicle including any expenses for towing, storage impound fees, an administrative fee, legal fees and a reasonable charge for loss of use. Regardless of whether CDW is accepted or included, all rentals are subject to a non-waivable excess for which you are responsible in the event of damage to the Hertz vehicle during the rental. If you decide not to purchase CDW, you will be required to provide a security deposit of € 5,000.00 at the start of the rental using your credit card. If this amount is not available on your credit card, you will have to purchase CDW or you will be refused a vehicle. Reliance on an external policy or eligible credit card for coverage will require documentation that this cover is applicable for the Republic of Ireland. Lack of additional cost transparency

I recently rented a car through Thrifty/Hertz Ireland with a planned pick-up and drop-off at Cork Airport. Satisfied with the car and service, I called Hertz to extend the rental by eight days, making the total rental period 27 days. I also asked if I could drop off the car at Dublin Airport, and they said it was fine. The representative quoted an extension fee of approximately €160.

However, when I dropped off the car at Dublin Airport, I was surprised to be charged an additional one-way fee of about €150. The representative had not mentioned this extra cost. Unfortunately, I did not receive any written confirmation of the extension details.

Additionally, after my initial call to extend the rental, Hertz failed to register it correctly. I received a reminder email on the original return date asking about the car. When I called to clarify, they acknowledged my previous call but cited a system error.

This lack of transparency and administrative error is concerning. For others in a similar situation, ensure you get a detailed breakdown of all potential fees and always request written confirmation for any rental extensions when renting through Hertz in Ireland.

Fraud and Lies

A clear change in how this branched has been managed following years of continuous business from my family and I.

A mark was visible on the car when we returned it. 90% of this mark was removed from a simple wipe. The remainder was
generously wear and tear or a mark so inconspicuous it couldn't be seen on any of the original photos or at all noticeable so was never recorded.

When I entered the operatives workplace to challenge the situation there was a pile of damage claims taller than my young child. This is clear money making tactics following changes in how this branch is managed.

For further context we have been renting cars from hertz at the this branch for over 20 years and have never had had a return inspection before so didn't feel the need to check the car with a fine tooth comb which is what I would have done with cheaper and what I would I have considered less reputable companies.

Charged £250 which I intend to challenge.

Fraud and Lies - This has really Hertz my pocket.

Where do I start

Where do I start. My van broke down and booked a van online. All good until collection. Held 500 quid but I presumed that anyway. 270 for hire for 4 days. Burnt a quarter tank of diesel dopey in a rush never topped up before return. I know my fault. Genuinely probably 30 quid at most to top up. Charged 87 euro plus 10.50 to have someone put it in!! Another 20 service location charge!! For what??? Wouldn't let me put my own insurance on the van cos they don't deal with AXA apparently. Had to take out there insurance. Anyway I suppose my bad for the diesel but they completely extracted the urine!! 10.50 for a lad that was on the payroll anyway to fill the yoke. Anyway rant over. Won't be back!!

Hi Vivian, all vehicles are rented full of fuel. We recommend that the vehicle is returned full on completion of rental. If the vehicle is not returned full we will charge for the refueling. The fee is clearly detailed on the rental paperwork signed at the start of rental. If wish to transfer your own comprehensive insurance policy onto the rental vehicle on a temporary basis you should check with your own insurance company. We must receive confirmation of insurance coverage in writing before we can release the vehicle.
