I had a really great consultation call with Amber at KJ Smith Solicitors. She actually listened to what I was saying and seemed genuinely interested, which made such a difference. She explained all the legal jargon in a way that was easy to understand, and she was really clear and empathetic throughout.

Amber answered my questions as well as she could and laid out my options and next steps in a way that didn’t feel overwhelming. Going through a divorce is mentally tough, but after talking to her I felt a lot more confident and a bit lighter about everything.

I am deeply disappointed with the service provided by Kate Evans at KJ Smith Solicitors and would strongly advise avoiding the Oxford branch altogether. Even in urgent situations, there are far better solicitors available locally.

Her case management is non-existent. Her legal knowledge appears largely theoretical, with no meaningful engagement or ability — or willingness — to apply it to the realities of a complex case. She is comfortable producing lengthy but basic emails at £260 + VAT per hour, yet that is essentially all that is offered.

She charged £2,500 to read a court bundle and answer six questions in writing. However, after the initial consultation, I was never offered another in-person meeting, solely because I had not signed a full retainer. Unless you commit thousands more upfront, meaningful engagement appears to be off the table.

To be clear, I can read, write, complete court forms, and conduct legal research myself. What I was paying for was professional guidance, strategic case management, and experienced direction. Instead, I received generic written responses, no discussion, no practical advice, and no sense of ownership of the case.

Overall, the service provided barely qualifies as a professional service at all. With sufficient time, online resources, and the support of AI, the same level of information can be obtained independently. I awarded two stars solely for the effort of drafting lengthy emails. Beyond that, I received no significant value, no support, and no professional engagement.

Excellent communication, empathy and understanding from the start and great service in dealing with the matter

For my divorce proceedings which took upwards of two years, Kulbir Rahi in the Ascot office was invaluable at advising and navigating me through the financial and childcare proceedings. She offered support and advice on the elements that I undertook myself and also kept me up to speed on all things related to the court proceedings. Most importantly to me, she promoted a communications exchange with my ex-wife that was as conflict-free as possible as well as ensuring that the welfare and wellbeing of my children were at the forefront of discussions and considerations. Kulbir was always available for a quick chat for me to run different scenarios/outcomes by and advise accordingly. She really did make one of life's most stressful experiences much easier and 'survivable'.

I can only say how despondent and disappointed I was after my appointment. My disappointment was due to the fact that I felt that, given what the solicitor said, a divorce would mean I could come off worse. The solicitor seemed more focused on what my partner would potentially get. I should have known given my initial request for a face to face appointment was ignored and they gave me a telephone appointment and I had to request it again with a response from them that I had asked for a telephone appointment. I’m not convinced they would be working for me either given the above. I gave the solicitor information at the start of the appointment but she didn’t write it down as she asked me a question that showed she hadn’t. This was not a good experience at all and I won’t be going back.

I was so glad I chose Antonia to act for me in my recent divorce and final orders, consummate professional at every turn with sound advice and assistance.
I would not hesitate to Reccomend her services, something I’m immensely grateful for.

Rachelle and Lauren were lovely to deal with and explained everything clearly so we understood all implications of our decisions when drawing up our wills.
We chose KCS because they advertise a Marlow office and did not realise that the actual base is Woodley so we feel it is important that the personnel are available at the Marlow office at all times.

Stephanie Glover who first worked on my divorce case was very personable and also thorough. I felt in safe hands with her. I felt she was practical and didn't make matters more complicated than they should be - which was not true of the other side. When Stephanie left, Jasmin took over and it was a very smooth transition and I had no concerns at all.

Engaging with a solicitor, especially at such an emotionally charged time, can be emotional and difficult - to say the least!
In my situation, I was facing the breakdown of a 20 year relationship. The relationship had become highly toxic, my relationship with my children was beginning to suffer and my partner was increasingly irrational, demanding and cruel.
