Fantastic online English course! We booked it to prepare our son for a school year abroad in England, with extra focus on science tutoring. In no time, he caught up on material and learned even more, thanks to a wonderful, friendly, and highly skilled tutor.

We were seeking an experienced tutor for the May exam period this year. After reaching out to customer support, the actual tutoring quality did not meet our expectations—especially considering the high price point.

For the rates being charged, we would expect a seasoned IB teacher or a tutor with significantly more experience. Unfortunately, while IB teachers are even more expensive per hour, this service did not justify the premium we paid.

I discovered Lanterna while searching online for a course to help my daughter prepare to resit her IB Biology exam and resubmit her English project. At first, I was hesitant—no one I knew had studied with Lanterna, and I wasn’t sure what to expect.

After researching further and reading positive reviews, I decided to enroll my daughter in a Biology review course and secure support for her English coursework resubmission. From the very beginning, we were guided by Francis, who walked us through every step of the resit process with patience and clarity.

Lanterna not only provided high-quality academic support, but also helped us with the logistics of retaking the exam in November - a time when very few centers in the Northern Hemisphere offer such opportunities. Even my daughter’s school was unable to provide options or direct us to a resit center, but Lanterna came through.

The results spoke for themselves: my daughter’s Biology grade improved by two points, and her English grade went up by one point—a total improvement of three IB points, which made a real difference to her final score.

What stood out most, beyond the academic success, was Lanterna’s exceptional customer service. In today’s world, it’s rare to find a service provider that is so genuinely invested in the success of its clients. Francis was always available to answer questions, offer reassurance, and ensure we were on the right track.

I highly recommend Lanterna to any IB student needing academic support, exam preparation, or guidance through the resit process. They exceeded our expectations in every way.

I used Lanterna for my IB high schooler and my middle school daughter and I have only positive things to say. My girls' confidence in the subjects has increased a bunch and they are happy to study with the tutors. I used Lanterna for help with my IB studies during my final year, and I have to say, the experience was a bit of a mixed bag.

On the positive side, the tutor I had for HL Math AA was absolutely fantastic. He explained concepts clearly, was super patient, and gave me loads of past paper questions to build confidence before the exams. I also really liked that the sessions were online and easy to schedule — flexible timings made it easier to fit around my other schoolwork.

However, my experience with the TOK support wasn’t quite as smooth. I had two different tutors for it because the first one left mid-way, and while both were knowledgeable, I didn’t feel like I got much clarity or structure. The feedback on my essay was pretty vague, and I wasn’t always sure how to apply it. I ended up doing okay, but I felt like I spent a lot of money for something I could have probably figured out with a good guide and some teacher input.

Also, communication with the support team was a bit slow at times — it sometimes took 2-3 days to hear back when I wanted to switch my tutoring times or ask about packages.

Overall, I’d say Lanterna is a solid option if you get a great tutor and know exactly what you want help with. Just be aware that the quality can vary a bit depending on the subject and tutor. If I could go back, I might use them more selectively rather than for everything.

The second teacher was very dedicated and went out of her way to ensure the complete understanding for the material. Her follow-up for the details & giving useful insights was what defines a "professional academic".

I can't rate Lanterna Education high enough! My daughter has excelled in her understanding of tricky subjects in her IB course such as Global Politics, Psychology and Maths. The tutors sourced are varied and experts in their field. Regular feedback is given so you know exactly where your child is in the subject. Also your child gives feedback after each tuition session so you know immediately if you have a problem. I personally find this approach more helpful than parents evening where the timeslots allocated for meeting teachers are chaotic at best and you are left with half a clue of their current attainment. I need to personally thank Viktoria for her efficiency whenever we have a question. There are no cons from what I have experienced so far. It is pricey but you get what you pay for and teens need to be aware of time zones when booking sessions! I am so grateful to the school for promoting this service. Thank you Lanterna x

The initial phase with getting information from our coordinator (Axel) and setting up the account went very well and he really helped in a timely manner and answered all questions we had. Setting up appointments for interviews with the chosen tutors via the office did not go so smooth but in the end we got all interviews done and could proceed with the tutoring sessions.

My experience with Lanterna education was excellent! I had a very helpful teacher who always explained the most important aspects of everything that I had to learn. Moreover, the learning atmosphere created was very fun, which always helps one to be motivated to learn.

Expensive - yes! But very good Organised, too, we had a very good talk with the coordinator Francis about the not so good results of our daughter in science (she had influenza) and her need for some more points. Lovely: He made her feel better about all and really encouraged her to take the chance! We booked around 120 hours in all.

Francos helped us to find the right teachers. We met with several (virtuell) because we wanted native speakers or tutors with not too strong accents as our daughter speaks German as her first language.

Her tutors were very flexible with the hours and always on time, she resit her exams in Math and Chemestry and feels confident that her grades improved, but will get the results on January. Francis also helped us find a school in London who accepted her for the exams in autumn, too, wrote to is several times with instructions like location, time, dress code and even reminded us on the time shift. Very nice indeed! It was great to have a personal contact person and made the last two months really much easier…

Great approach and support straight from the start. Not cheap but a great help in understanding and guiding our Son through the topic chosen.
