I’m very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the service that you received. As you can appreciate I am unable to provide any details of the specific nature of your case with us due to confidentiality but on review I can ensure you that it was handled appropriately by an accredited and experienced family mediator. In your case a decision was made that mediation would not be proceeding and whilst we understand that can feel very disappointing please be assured that the decision was made after careful consideration.
I do need to refute entirely your assertion that our service was intentionally attempting to ‘take money’ from you. The decisions all of our mediators make, as to whether mediation is safe and appropriate to proceed, are not taken lightly and are always made after careful consideration and in line with our professional code of conduct. Even where mediation is not proceeding we hope that the time spent one-to-one with an experienced family mediator is valuable in itself and helps you to consider your next steps.
In relation to fees, in this case you paid for the one hour Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings. We currently charge £125 + VAT per person for that service, by way of comparison there is a figure quoted on the Family Mediation Council’s website that you can expect to pay around £120 per person for a MIAM.
If you feel strongly that the service you received was not to the required standards then I would encourage you to contact our Mediation Support Team directly and we will be happy to look in to this further.

I was able to completely be myself with Sarah. Over the telephone, she exuded professionalism and an empathy that was empowering in a matter that has exhausted my energies for too long. Furthermore, as Sarah stated, I received the mediation certificate the same day.

Partial experience only, but was very impressed
I didn't complete the whole mediation process, as my estranged husband refused to comply with the deadline for arranging his MIAM after I had done mine. However, I was very impressed by the way my MIAM was performed and will try to restart the process at some stage. My mediator was Vicki Lewis, and she was knowledgable, reassuring, and sympathetic, while also assuring me that she would be entirely neutral when dealing with us. I felt hopeful that our (currently) acrimonious situation could be unwound and resolved over a relatively short period, and that the process would actually be helpful to us in terms of communication and emotional resolution. If my husband does return to the table in the future, I'll be straight back to Vicki.

I am really sorry to hear that you found that our mediator did not seem interested and that you felt that the process was not helpful to you.
As you can appreciate it is not possible to provide details of your particular circumstances here due to confidentiality. However, I can say that it can seem frustrating when mediation does not proceed. In your case our mediator was very careful to discuss the details of your circumstances with a Director and after consultation a conclusion was reached that it would not be helpful for mediation to proceed at this time.
I will pass on your comments to the mediator on your case for them to reflect on, but can assure you that they and all of our mediators diligently attempt to listen and understand the client's situation and will always try to act with best intentions whilst maintaining their impartial role in the mediation process.
