Missed a big mistake in the footer of…
UPDATED
Was contacted about the review left online and was offered some compensation for the footer miss. The special characters and spacing were pointed out that they were only viewed when on a PDF viewer online, but work well in acrobat.
Was happy with the customer service and response to correct or explain the issues brought up in my review.
FIRST REVIEW
Missed a big mistake in the footer of our document that could have had our proposal thrown out. We caught the mistake before printing. Some of the notes from the editor were hard to read do to spacing and special characters.

Edits were difficult to follow when looking at the compiled comments in Adobe (comments were not made in order of the text). Throughout the entire data-heavy report it was inappropriately suggested that we change our consistently used term "rate" to "number" or "number of" and to change "rolling 12 month" to "12-month average" (where the total It was clear that they were unfamiliar with data and terminology, and in fact there was a note to change "data are" to "data is," which is incorrect; Data is plural.It was also suggested that we change "patients at risk for or who have overweight or obesity" to "who are overweight or obese," which again shows their lack of knowledge of medical terminology. However, they clearly felt that it was very important to point out that not all fentanyl is illegal and we should consider changing how we worded our information. In short, I had to spend far too much time wading through opinions/invalid corrections (a large percentage of the corrections) and trying to line up the comments. We have had our report proofread by ProofreadNow.com for a number of years, and this is the first year we've run into this issue.

When processing PDF documents, we make comments using text highlights on the target text in question. If you use Acrobat’s summary tool that prints comments in the right margin with pointers to the text, they are not in order. That cannot be helped. It’s a function of Acrobat. Otherwise, our comments are placed over the offending text in the order the text is read. When there is a large quantity of edits, showing the document with Adobe’s sideline method can be confusing.

There was no label for “rolling 12 month” so by itself, it appears meaningless, or at least ambiguous. We made a suggestion that would clarify.

The editor suggested changing an occurrence of ‘are’ to ‘is’ – data can be either singular or plural depending on context. In this context, we believe it is singular. This change reflects the writer’s use of the singular verb ‘was’ later in the paragraph.
Here is an excerpt from Merriam-Webster 11th Collegiate Dictionary’s definition of “data”: factual information (such as measurements or statistics) used as a basis for reasoning, discussion, or calculation—Example: the data is plentiful and easily available
Note the use of “is” in the example from Merriam-Webster.

In medical terminology, it is not said that one is “at risk for…overweight.” Nor is it acceptable to say that one has overweight or obesity. One can be at risk for “obesity” (a noun) or for “being overweight” (a noun-verb combination) but the word “overweight” is an adjective. It’s like saying someone is at risk for sick, or someone is at risk for comatose. A verb is needed.
