Surely all these 5* star reviews are fake? (They’re not.) Remy truly is the real deal… and it’s our little secret.
Please don’t read this review. I don’t want anyone else knowing what is probably the UK entertainment industry’s biggest kept secret: Remy Hunter Headshots.
Remy is, honestly, an absolute magician when it comes to headshots. What he can do with a willing participant, a camera, natural daylight & a couple of locations around the Barbican is bordering on sorcery. He is one of the nicest and most patient photographers I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. (And trust me, he needed a lot with me). He’s calm and reassuring (the perfect collaborator for a creative type like myself). He listens openly to what you hope to achieve from a session, and then he delivers. And boy, does Remy deliver.
This all sounds like I’m gushing, and, in truth, I am. But only because I was surprised by how Remy was able to capture so much from so little. Anyone who knows me personally knows that I have as much personality as a potato. This is not me being modest; this is me knowing my type: a dull and uninteresting dork. (If one were to put a turnip next to me, I promise you, speaking to that would be preferable to interacting with me.) But Remy is like what I imagine legendary nature documentarians like David Attenborough are like. He mobilises and waits. He invites you to come out of the nest. And once this potato feels brave enough to poke his head out, he snaps. And what he catches not only looks good; it looks alive. Thoughtful. Emotional. Characterful. Tendril and all.
Two other things: 1. Remy offers the most generous pricing model on the market. You only pay for the photos you wish to keep. Nothing more, nothing less; making it perfect for all budget levels. (Although I warn you, if you had a session as positive as mine, you’ll end up wanting to pay for the lot.)
And 2. This man works insanely fast. Not only on location but afterwards too. I received all my photos on the same day as the session. Within 24 hours, I’d sent through my final selections, and I received all edited images (all formatted, all subtly retouched & all ready to upload to agents/Spotlight) in my inbox 3 hours after that. Honestly, I thought I worked fast, but this man is on another level.
Most casting directors recommend 4-6 headshots on Spotlight to cover a variety of looks. But my agents were so impressed by Remy’s output they favourited no less than 27 of his headshots - all memorable, all usable, all capturing a different essence of this same turnip. I found it near impossible to choose just six, and in the end, caved in and bought a couple extra images for other types of work/personal/family; they were that good.
Finally, working with Remy feels like working with a great director. He’s generous in giving technical adjustments and suggests scenarios to play throughout, keeping one active and alive. My mind was able to stay clear from thinking about the weird, vain artificiality of it all (life included). It’s clear that Remy truly LOVES what he does. And as I walked away from the Barbican area with a renewed spring, I realised I had spent that morning doing what I truly love. I got to wear different outfits, try different characters, ideas & feelings, and play make-believe. I got to act and be someone else. I had forgotten (at least for just one moment) I was that bland root vegetable pretending to be interesting.
