Rockwell Interiors fell short of expectations in providing personalized interior design services for my mid-century home in La Jolla. Despite clear articulation of my design vision, the designer disregarded my preferences and instead presented generic, uninspired concepts reminiscent of mainstream trends readily available on their website.
From the onset, I engaged with Rockwell Interiors with excitement, eagerly anticipating a collaboration to bring my unique vision to life. Regrettably, the experience turned out to be disappointing. Despite providing detailed descriptions and references outlining my desire for a distinct mid-century aesthetic infused with personal touches, the designer failed to heed any of my requests. Instead, I was met with designs that lacked originality, resembling cookie-cutter templates already in circulation.
Upon expressing my concerns, I was met with an unsatisfactory response from the designer. Their dismissive remark, "I am the one you hired and this is my creativity and my designs, which is what you hired me for," only exacerbated the situation. It became apparent that the designer was more interested in showcasing their own preferences rather than collaborating to fulfill my vision for my own home.
The lack of willingness to collaborate and the failure to translate my vision into tangible designs left me feeling frustrated and disillusioned with Rockwell Interiors' services. As a client seeking a bespoke experience tailored to my unique tastes, I expected a higher level of professionalism and attentiveness to my needs.
In conclusion, Rockwell Interiors fell short of delivering the personalized interior design services promised, opting instead for generic solutions that failed to capture the essence of my design aspirations. We've had the pleasure of collaborating with Christie May and her team at Rockwell Interiors for the past three years while building our dream home in Del Mar. We’ve worked with many designers over the past 25 years, and I must say, her approach to design is nothing short of exemplary. She has a unique ability to balance artistic creativity, functionality, and budget constraints, delivering spaces that not only reflect her clients' personalities but also exceed their expectations. Moreover, she isn’t limited to interior design — she was instrumental in making critical architectural modifications, exterior design, and even landscape and fencing recommendations.
One of Christie's standout qualities is her unwavering commitment to listening to her clients. One final note: because Christie can do so much more than interior design, we recommend getting her involved in the project at the architectural exploration stage, prior to city and county approvals.

As actual paying clients of Christie May (CM), our experience with Rockwell Interiors was an absolute NIGHTMARE. The 5-star reviews about her have been written by her sister, friends, and other vendors/contractors she patrons. Had the actual previous VICTIMS of CM written reviews detailing their experiences, we would have never engaged. For this reason, there is a moral obligation to advise the public of her arrogant attitude, plagiarized designs, substandard service, and numerous court appearances.

CM did not deliver original and personalized designs tailored to preferences, instead she presented copied images from Pinterest and passed them off as her own work and for that billed 60+ hours. Many Pinterest images were even taken from my own board. Billing 60+ hours for recycled Pinterest images is. Not only a blatant lack of creativity, but is also dishonest

Next, she utilized free SketchUp software for designs, that were not 3D renderings, and for that she bills premium rates. It is deeply concerning that a designer would cut corners and compromise on quality while still charging exorbitant fees.

During interactions, CM was nothing less than arrogant and condescending. She continuously boasted about her experience with multi-million-dollar projects, her fake five-star reviews, and her multiple appearance in a local magazine. She verbally belittled our small project, dismissing it as "basic" and beneath her purported expertise. A job so “basic”, that at the 50% completion point, amounted to 80 billable hours. She touted that she has a 4-year bachelor’s degree and numerous years of experience in the industry, and yet she does not even have a certification from the California Council for Interior Design.

BEWARE: She is HIGHLY seasoned in the courtroom. Public court records indicate that CM has a history of legal disputes regarding her work and her billing practices. She has been in small claims court 3 times in only 7 years with the following filing dates: 3/1/2016, 9/29/2017, 4/21/23. These court appearances are evidence of a troubling pattern of unethical business practices and a true disregard for client concerns. With so much experience in front of a judge, she comes VERY PREPARED. Do NOT become her FOURTH victim!

To conclude, working with CM was an absolute NIGHTMARE. From padded billing to plagiarized designs and subpar service, CM failed to meet even the most basic standards of professionalism and integrity. I strongly advise against engaging Rockwell Interior's services, as unethical behavior poses a significant risk to potential clients.

Here is a list of only a few of the incongruities found on the invoices:

• It was agreed upon to not touch the kitchen until I gave the green light, yet billed over 15 hours for kitchen design before that approval was given

• Billed 20 hours for Pinterest searches before even visiting or setting foot in the residence.

• Billed 7 hours after being told to stop working

• Design a washer/dryer closet to be placed in an area inside a condo where there is no sewage or water access.

• Designed a vanity in a guest bathroom that did not respect the plumbing housed behind the wall

• Billed the above mistakes and then billed again to correct those mistakes
