Senior Management Greed.
When I read about the salary/perks of the various CEO's I decided to ask AI to investigate. I gave it some pointers like are they cutting frontline staff and focusing more on GOING DIGITAL. In other words. Fewer staff, less frontline help but more cash coming in. This is what AI found/said. NB I've cancelled my monthly contribution. I don't fund CEOS or digital parasites. Just no way sincere.
This summary examines the 2025 landscape of Save the Children, focusing on executive compensation, financial mismanagement, and the controversial restructuring of the organization’s workforce and global programs.
The Compensation Controversy
At the heart of the debate is the high level of executive pay within the Save the Children global movement. As of 2025, leadership compensation remains a primary point of contention for donors and internal staff:
International Leadership: Inger Ashing, CEO of Save the Children International, earned approximately £229,575 in 2023, with 2024/2025 estimates suggesting total compensation packages reaching as high as £271,768 for top-tier international executives. The US Entity: President and CEO Janti Soeripto’s compensation has trended upward, reaching $629,195 (approx. £495,000) in 2023.
The UK Entity: While Save the Children UK has kept its CEO salary at a benchmark of £143,000 for several years, the number of employees in high-salary bands (£60,000–£160,000) increased by 28 individuals between 2022 and 2023.
Critics and departing donors argue these salaries are "obscene" for a humanitarian mission, while the organization defends them as necessary to manage a complex, multi-billion dollar operation across 115 countries.
Reductions at the "Sharp End" (2025)
The most significant development in 2025 is the sharp contrast between stable executive pay and deep cuts to frontline services.Staff Redundancies: In early 2025, Save the Children UK announced a plan to cut 197 jobs to address a funding deficit.
Programmatic Withdrawals: Due to a £100 million decline in global income, the international federation has had to terminate or suspend over 140 programs, impacting an estimated 10.3 million people who rely on their aid.
Internal Backlash: Staff have criticized the "Refocus for Impact" strategy, labeling it a failure of planning that protects high-cost HQ structures while sacrificing the "sharp end"—the frontline staff and programs that directly serve children.
The "Digital Crusade" and Enthuse
To mitigate the loss of human staff, the charity has entered a "digital crusade." This involves a heavy reliance on digital fundraising platforms like Enthuse.
Automation over Administration: While saving money on salaries through redundancies, the charity is investing in digital tools to automate fundraising for major events like the 2025 London Marathon.
The Trust Gap: For donors, this shift feels like a corporate transformation where the "human touch" of the charity is replaced by automated systems, even as the executive team continues to draw corporate-level salaries.
Financial Integrity and Theft
There is no evidence of widespread internal theft by leadership; however, the charity has been a victim of significant external crime:
Cyber Theft: A 2023/24 ransomware attack by the BianLian group resulted in the theft of 6.8TB of data, including 800GB of financial records.
External Fraud: In 2017, the organization lost nearly $1 million to a business email compromise scam.
Legal Misspending: In previous years, the charity was criticized for spending an estimated £100,000 of donor money on lawyersto manage media stories regarding staff misconduct, rather than on charitable aid.
Conclusion
The 2025 narrative for Save the Children is one of a "Trust Deficit." The organization is currently balancing a £6 million budget cut and nearly 200 job losses against a backdrop of six-figure executive salaries and a pivot toward digital automation. For many long-term donors, this perceived prioritization of a high-cost corporate HQ over frontline stability has resulted in the cessation of their financial support.
My 2 penn'orth. Find a local soup kitchen or food bank or non discriminatory religious charity that collects toys for kids etc. Give to them. They will still have overheads but not hundreds of thousands of pounds/dollars for certain individuals and they have the human touch/presence not a digital crooked smile.
Don't give your money
I used to give money monthly to Save The Children and have just seen the Christmas 2025 advert and thought if the CEOS took less money, more could be spent on the charity. I cancelled when I read Janti Soeripto, President and CEO of Save the Children, received a salary of $629,195 in 2022.
I mean thats a joke!
How these Ceos take that kind of salary plus bonuses is criminal!
The door-to-door chuggers are out again.
It looks like Save the Children have sent their door-to-door chuggers out again. As a reminder, you should not donate to charities that hire agencies to go door-to-door. The agency gets a large up-front fee for every person signed up, so it takes years for the money you're donating to actually start doing any good.
They are a scam
Those adverts that say donate £5 a month to save a child’s life. 2,500 people would have to do that monthly donation for an entire year just to pay the CEO’s salary. Avoid and donate to something that goes directly to the people that need it.
Harassing people on the street
Tell your annoying girls to stop harassing people on the street!! One said to me , whilst she was laughing and jumping up and down like a three year old child" You look friendly!!!!??. I said "Yes I am" but your not ripping me off". Scam organisation. Don't donate.
If you wish to cancel your monthly donations in order to donate to another charity, they will refuse
I want to stop my recurring monthly donations as I wish to donate to another charity instead.
However, despite multiple emails back and forth, they have refused to cancel my recurring donations. So it looks I’ll need to ask my bank to change my credit card number so that they’ll stop.
Due to their poor supporter experience I can’t recommend this charity. There are many other excellent charities that support children out there which also allow you to make changes to your donations if you wish. This is not one of them.
Corrupt charity who keeps the money for…
Corrupt charity who keeps the money for themselves Do Not Donate to this corrupt charity.
Please be aware of hidden fund costs
Well the reason for the charity is a very positive thing to raise money for but the administration is not the best!! We raised the money for the charity and had some fun whilst we did this… when I came to pay the money in we had collected the online bit to do this was straight forward but I felt it was a little cheeky how the automatically add on a £20 tip for the staff… Apparently you have to opt out of this instead of the other way round where you would add this is you Desired… it was my fault but one which could have been prevented if only they gave u the option not automatically assumed this is what you would like to do… very misleading and not very friendly
The rudest woman on the planet
Every time I go there it's closed when it's meant to be open. Today, I arrived after 'opening time' to find the door locked. There were two people inside and eventually one strolled slowly to the door, unlocked it and asked me what I wanted (!?) So I said I wanted to come in and she looked me up and down like I was something on the bottom of her shoe and said 'well you can't because I don't have a cashier'. I said 'maybe you could put a sign in the door to tell people that, because they come here expecting to find the shop open when the lights are on'. I think I was polite, but then she gave me another snotty look and a shrug (!) and I said, 'look, we're customers, not mind readers' and she pulled a face at me and shut the door in my face. It's no wonder this place can't get volunteers if that's the kind of attitude they're expected to work with. I found it unbelievable. I was actually going to ask about volunteering there because I have experience, I know they need help, and I have a little time, but really??? Not a chance, after this. And I won't be going back there. It was a horrible experience.
