Unnecessary red tape & disgusting WCs
Unnecessary red tape in gaining entrance….why? Other museums manage perfectly well without visitors being herded like unwelcome sheep through ticketing barriers. What an awful way to treat visitors…and, after all, the museum is free! Similarly with the temporary exhibitions…ticketing! Is this just a way of gathering visitors’ personal data (very suspicious), because visitor numbers are monitored by neighbouring museums without such anti-social arrangements. No wonder your visitor numbers are falling so precipitously relative to neighbouring museums who treat their visitors with far more respect. The V&A and Natural History Museum are dreams by comparison, and I would recommend families to visit these as a more family-appropriate alternative. And I won’t even start about the attractions in the museum that can only be accessed by families who can afford the extortionate charges. Again, what other national museum keeps poorer families out of certain galleries unless they pay up. A disgrace. And, incidentally, your WCs are a disgrace; perhaps use some of the money that you’re squeezing out of families to clean them more often. The directorship of this money-grabbing museum needs a revamp.
Why enforced ticketing. Crazy Director vanity project?
Why enforced ticketing! Why are you spending huge sums on unnecessary ticket barrier staff! Why stop entry to your America exhibition one and a half hours before closing…when the exhibition was half empty! Why the infuriating bureaucracy! No other national museum acts similarly. The Director needs to re-think…or resign. The entrance protocol is a disgrace, and the poor reviews for the science Museum present a truly appalling picture of a national institution.
I went with a friend and her 9 year old…
I went with a friend and her 9 year old grand daughter. I was excited as I’d not been since taking my own children who are now in their 20’s. I had many great memories of going as a child myself.
I was so disappointed.
If you thought you were going to get a child away from a phone or tablet screen for the day then you’ll be very wrong. Gone are the wow exhibits with buttons, dials, sliders and flaps that used to reveal information in a child friendly and exciting manor. It’s just full of touch screens! We could have logged onto the Science museum from home and had the same experience without the hassle and expense of travelling to London.
The Technician exhibit was all screens and just seemed to show all sorts of jobs with the word technician added afterwards, I was bored.
I also didn’t get the link between Jellicat soft toys and Pokemon with science?
It was poorly laid out and you could easily miss huge sections as it just didn’t flow. The signage was terrible. The toilet signs for ambulant users were marked with World War One era crutches! It's a classic case of a design agency getting so caught up in being clever, minimalist, and "progressive" that they completely forgot the most basic rule of public infrastructure: if a user has to stop and think about what a toilet sign means, the design has failed.
It really highlights how common sense gets lost in big corporate design projects.
The variety of hot and cold food was good and my chicken curry wrap was delicious. The boxed lunch for kids was enjoyed by the 9 year old. I didn’t think the price was overly expensive for central London. The cafe was very busy and very disorganised. A member of staff ushered us and several others to a line at a till. The till operator then disappeared leaving us to queue again in the original queue! As with the rest of the museum the signage was poor and no clear route through to the tills.
The Clock exhibit was good and children seemed to love the four mechanical brass displays with knobs they could turn. Seeing their little faces in wonder as they watched what happened in the cabinets as they turned the knobs brought back that old magic I remembered from past visits.
Please Science Museum stop being trying to be so modern and progressive and go back to the old fashioned wow displays of the past. With clear signage and a flow through so you don’t miss anything.
Disappointing experience, particularly with a young child
I visited Wonderlab with my three-year-old during a weekday in term time, expecting a relatively calm and enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, it was quite the opposite.
There were multiple large groups of schoolchildren visiting at the same time, which made the space incredibly hectic. There was a lot of running around, noise and overcrowding, with very little visible intervention from staff to manage the situation.
What made this particularly frustrating was the lack of organisation around entry times. Despite having a timed booking, we were allowed in approximately 20 minutes early, and staff appeared to be admitting visitors as they arrived rather than managing entry according to their allocated slots.
Considering Wonderlab is advertised as suitable for younger children, I would have expected better crowd management, particularly when school groups are visiting alongside families with toddlers.
We also approached a security guard for assistance with directions and to find a member of staff who could help us. Unfortunately, he was quite dismissive and simply told us he couldn’t help.
The exhibits themselves have plenty of potential, but the overall experience was overshadowed by poor crowd management and a lack of helpful staff.
Having recently visited other London attractions with my child, including London Zoo, where we had a fantastic experience during a term-time weekday, the difference in organisation was particularly noticeable.
I would be hesitant to return with a young child unless the museum improves how it manages school visits and timed admissions.
pop-up was crowded with strange people
Pokemon pop-up was crowded with people begging to buy the card products, and took all the children’s card game cards so they could sell them.
There was not really much different about the space trail (NHM, much better) and that was quite small.
My child was completely put off by the experience. For an institution that is funded for the purpose of bringing children to science this has done the opposite.
Was great 20 years ago but now just shops and cafes - very disappointed

Cancelled our imax tickets day before
Had waited weeks to see “The Odyssey” on imax and they cancelled our Monday afternoon viewing in Sunday afternoon. Only good fortune that I actually saw the email in time.
Apparently I will get a refund.
However, we booked half day at work and booked a restaurant in Kensington as well.
Also, we were instructed to book additional tickets to the museum to gain entry. We yielded and donated £5 as it was hard to move forward without making the donation.
So now we are not even going at all.
Cancelled due to heat but it’s been hot for weeks so why such short notice?
Disappinting
It was a last minute decision to go with my 9 yo grand-daughter, so I hadn't done my homework. The museum was incredibly badly signed, and difficult to navigate. The Wonderlab was a good experience but very expensive. I had always thought it was wonderful on previous visits, but was very disappointed this time. The food experience told us nothing.
If I could give zero stars I would
If I could give zero stars I would. My son loves to learn new things however it is difficult to get him ingaged due to him being Autistic and having ADHD. He was so excited to go to the science museum as I’d told him all about how I had gone as a child and there were experiments and buttons to press. Turns out to do anything fun or interactive you needed to pay £15-£17 to do. Where as it used to be free. I would rather have saved more money and taken him to Birmingham
Outstanding experience, informative and interactive.
Outstanding experience and staff!
We only experienced a small portion of the Science Museum on our recent trip, spending hours in the Wonderlab which was incredible. The staff were perfect, very polite, helpful, inclusive and interacted well with all. I couldn’t recommend it more. Thank you all! A special thank you to the member of staff presenting the experiments with dry ice, who was another level of amazing! I can’t remember her name but she had a lovely necklace on of the Earth and answered a ridiculous amount of questions from one of my boys. She was amazing, the whole experience was! Thank you.
Excellent tour
Fantastic place ! Sarah and her colleague were enthusiastic, helpful and really added to the experience. Would highly recommend. Such an interesting place.
Great guided tour
Visited the Science Museum stores in Wroughton. Guided tour of objects held in Wroughton either for conservation or because of lack of space or too big at other sites. Guide Sahara was brilliant although I felt an hour and three quarters barely scratched the surface of the items held here.
Disappointing beginning
Two lifts to serve a 4 Story building. One is out of order-these things happen. On its own not an issue. You just need more patience. But when you wait for ages for the one lift to get to the canteen to read a notice "We are closed" no explanation. Why not put a prominent notice at entry or near the lift ? We were directed to space cafe on the basement floor. The selection of food on offer was limited and expensive. Thankfully it was not too busy. Here's hoping the exhibits make up for the start of this visitors experience
Science & Innovation Park at Wroughton worth a visit.
Visited Science & Innovation Park at Wroughton, near Swindon.
Guided tour by Debbie. An excellent tour guide. Would definitely recommend it. Such a vast range of items from cars & buses to medical equipment.
Tour lasts 1 1/2 hours.
If any complaints wish it could last another 2 hours.
Jason Gregg gave an excellent guided tour of the science museum
Jason Gregg gave an excellent guided tour of the part of the science museum open to the public. The fee is well worth spending to see exhibits of our heritage.
Staff at the space cafe were so…
The Staff at the space cafe were so rude.
Not a great experience.
The new space gallery is appalling
The new space gallery is appalling - nothing in it. You get two space capsules (which were already in the museum), 2 engines and 1 pressure suit (already on display previously) and a bit of moon rock. Absolute rubbish. No early rockets, Saturn V or Soyuz models, nothing at all about Russian space program, Chinese program, ISS, Space Shuttle - what are they trying to interpret here? Main attractions are a big globe that changes into different planets with an eager commentator gabbling away to groups of six year olds (that's astronomy, not space travel!); a huge overpriced cafe; and a big shop selling tat you will get online for half the price. Don't bother.
As another person wrote...I am 76 I had…
As another person wrote...I am 76 I had visited many times as a child and loved it. It was a different place then. You could interact on different things. I also went about 20 years ago with my late daughter and it was also very nice then as well.
Sadly I report that my wife and I was so disappointed with the whole thing today. It was also packed out with overseas persons
We wont be going back again which I am very sorry

Poor
I had visited the science museum many a times as a child and loved all the things you could interact with and learn amazing science.
I went today with my 8yo and he was bored to hell as he had nothing to do but look at things.
I was deeply disappointed and if it stays like this I wouldn’t likely return in the future.
So disappointing
Visited with 2 other adults and two 6 year olds. Each one of us very disappointed after having been recommended to go. Very crowded. Part of ground floor appeared closed off. Virtually nothing interactive appropriate for their age - even if they could have got close enough to try. The third floor aircraft did spark some interest, but by that time we all just wanted to go.
