Purchased a policy last August (2024)…

Purchased a policy last August (2024) for a 2016 Suburban. Transmission went out and now SOS now wants to know if transmission was serviced at 90,000 miles or before and if it wasn't they don't want to pay for a transmission. The Dealership I purchased it from won't release information since details since I wan't the actual owner. I would like to warn people that this company will try everything to avoid paying for any repairs. Now it looks like I will be out $5-7K from my pocket. BEWARE of SOS Auto Protect they will protect themselves 1st. Now I will get some automated response to say how sorry they are and to please contact them, when I have left message after message.

Buyer Beware!

I was interested in purchasing an extended warranty for my 2018 vehicle, which I planned to keep for the long term. Initially, I received a quote from the dealership for nearly $10K for 3 years (yes, it’s a Jaguar, so naturally, it was expensive). Then, I got a quote from Endurance, which was nearly the same. However, I stumbled upon a company that was highly rated on Forbes' website. Being old school, I trusted Forbes as a respected source—big mistake. Upon further review, I discovered that the positive reviews were mainly about the initial purchase process, not the actual claims process. I should have done more research, and that’s on me.

I spoke with Adam, who seemed great and convinced me to purchase a warranty with no deductible or out-of-pocket cost per incident. It was priced at $6,088 for 8 years—way too good to be true, especially for a Jaguar, where labor alone can cost hundreds of dollars per hour. That should have been a red flag, but I was caught up in the excitement of such a “great deal.” Adam assured me that I could receive a full refund within 30 days by law or a prorated refund if I decided to sell the car.

I submitted my vehicle information, and only then did I dig deeper into the company. First stop: the Better Business Bureau. To my surprise, they had an "F" rating and were not accredited due to poor customer feedback and numerous complaints. I continued my research and found multiple reviews from warranty customers who had submitted claims—only to have them denied entirely or forced to pay out-of-pocket for labor to diagnose issues that were either denied or partially covered. There were numerous horror stories, but you can easily find them by searching the company name online.

I decided it would be better to invest my money in a new vehicle with an included 5 year warranty than nurture my current car.
I immediately emailed to cancel the policy the following day. Adam responded quickly, reassuring me that all I had to do was call, and he would take care of the cancellation. But that wasn’t the case. The policy was purchased on February 13, and I officially canceled it on February 17. However, I was subjected to several minutes of questioning by Adam, followed by a transfer to Ben, who also pressed me to reconsider my decision. After some back-and-forth, Ben confirmed he would process the cancellation and promised I would receive an email by the end of the day.

That email never came.

I won’t go into the countless phone calls to SOS Auto Protect, Adam, Ben, and my credit card company, which had to open a dispute on my behalf. The cancellation wasn’t processed until after a follow-up call on March 5, and the refund wasn’t issued until March 21—over an entire month after my initial cancellation request. It was a never-ending cycle of lies and frustration. I can only imagine how nightmarish it would have been to try and file a claim with this company.

I am relieved to have this ordeal behind me and strongly advise anyone considering a warranty with this company to proceed with caution. What a terrible experience from start to finish.

Adam my agent

Adam my agent was very helpful with getting me the coverage for my car. Spoke with” car shield “ first they quoted me $1000 deductible for the first 90 days then drops to $500 every occurrence after 90 days down payment was only 189 but she wanted to drop it to 159$ per month coverage tier was silver………..
spoke with 2 other brands about my 2020 ford fusion with 190k miles all was about the same then I found sos auto protect. Adam got me premium coverage my down payment was $300 which was a little higher than everyone I came across but my deductible is only $100 every occurrence so there was a no brainer for me

Because Other Companies are Better

It’s been over a month since I was told I’d receive my return check, and I’m still waiting. I’ve called multiple times, but it’s impossible to reach anyone who can actually help. Each time, they just take my number and promise to “call me back” — but no one ever does. The lack of communication and follow-through is incredibly frustrating.

SOS Auto Warranty will push for reviews right after you get the policy. The real test of a warranty company is whether they actually cover repairs when you need them—and SOS failed completely.

After just 5,000 miles, I had a clear engine issue, and they refused to cover it, claiming it was a “wear and tear” problem. Convenient excuse when the repair cost was more than what I had paid into the policy. SOS warranty will find loopholes to deny legitimate claims.

I’ve used Endurance in the past, and they were great—never had an issue getting a repair approved. Honestly, I regret choosing SOS. If you’re looking for a warranty that actually does what it promises, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.

However, we’d like to clarify that oil leaks are specifically not covered under our extended warranty, nor are they covered by any company in the industry, as they are generally considered maintenance or wear-and-tear issues.

Additionally, we do cover seals and gaskets, but only in conjunction with a covered repair. They are not covered if they fail on their own, which is a standard practice across the industry. In fact, many companies don’t cover seals and gaskets at all.

We understand this may be frustrating, but please know that our policies are designed to cover unexpected mechanical failures that aren’t related to regular wear. Leaving a review—whether positive or negative—is completely optional, and we appreciate all feedback, as it helps us improve and better serve our customers.

Research before making a decision

When I first talked to Daniel Hill. I actually filled out for a quote from another warranty company. Daniel spoke fast and I needed to ask who he was with. He was polite and what he offered sounded good. So after being somewhat pressured I went ahead and signed up with SOS. This was a Friday, during the weekend I decided I was not comfortable with my decision.

I sent an email requesting to cancel the policy. I did tell them I was considering looking for another vehicle. Considering! It really was not their business. Daniel told me he would give the request to the billing department and should be called later that day.

Nothing happened that day , so I contacted Daniel again. This time he transferred me to billing. I then spoke to Adam who interrogated me! He questioned me on considering trading my vehicle. He told me everyone who canceled tells that story. Or what he meant lied. I asked a few times to just cancel the policy. Adam asked if I would transfer the policy to my wife’s car? Or if I bought a new car? Again I asked can he just cancel the policy? Adam then put me on hold. He came back offering me another year and double mileage per the “management “! Finally he canceled the policy.

I was somewhat happy with Daniel. Adam absolutely not! So if I could give no stars I would!

Best coverage/warranty term!

The customer service I was provided by the representative Daniel Hill was very professional, he provided me with all the information I requested about my policy and his responses were in a timely manner! This was reassuring for me, for what this company offers for coverage is amazing compared to other companies. So thank you Daniel and to your manager for all the help!
