Extremely disappointing experience.

I have spent years trying to resolve a straightforward issue with this company. Throughout that time I was repeatedly assured by Abi Stewart, the Sales Manager, that the matter was being investigated and that “Brian” was looking into a solution.

All correspondence came from a Stone UK email address and at no point was I told I was dealing with the wrong company or that Stone UK had no responsibility for the matter.

After years of emails and chasing, I was recently informed that the company could not locate its records and therefore would not be resolving the issue. However, once I sent a Letter Before Action, a completely different explanation suddenly emerged, including a collection note that had never previously been mentioned despite years of correspondence on the subject.

I was also informed for the first time that the matter allegedly related to South Planks rather than Stone UK. This was surprising given that all of my communications had been with Stone UK’s Sales Manager using a Stone UK email address. It raises obvious questions as to why this distinction was never mentioned during the years that the matter was supposedly being investigated.

The most frustrating part is that if this information genuinely existed all along, why was I repeatedly being told that a replacement was being sought? The company’s current position appears entirely inconsistent with the emails I have received over the last two years.

What should have been a simple customer service matter has now escalated to legal action purely because nobody seemed willing or able to take ownership of the issue and bring it to a sensible conclusion.

At this stage, I am continuing with legal proceedings. The amount involved is no longer the issue; it is now a matter of principle. Customers should be able to rely on a company’s representations and expect matters to be handled consistently, transparently and professionally.

I cannot comment on the quality of the products, but based on my experience, customer service, communication and accountability have been extremely poor.

Went to South Planks today (Saturday) as my husband works mon-fri 8-6.
South Planks is closed all weekend and open Monday-Friday 9-4.30.
Unbelievable.

Called in for a browse as we were looking for some stone for a fireplace, we didnt know what we were looking for but Brian was great, really helpful and went out of his way for us, and helped us choose the right piece, highly recommend going they really do go out of their way too help, great place for reclaimed things.

So easy and they were very professional and fair .

Purchased a french oak beam for my fire place just before Christmas time, Brian was a star 🌟 such a lovely guy ,went up and beyond to help me get what I wanted.
The girls in the office were fantastic, highly recommended to my friend's and family, great experience worth a visit.😁

I telephoned with an emergency order having run out of gilding half way through a project. They were extremely understanding and helpful and I got the order the following day.

Just bought some fireplace Beams. Brian was really great - very helpfully, friendly and gave me very good straight advise to find ones I needed. Also lovely service with Amber in the shop. Highly recommend and sure I will be back. Really different service from some other places I have recently visited. Highly recommended and I'm sure we'll be back!!
