It is a shame we cannot place a minus score. Stay away from this company, they should be struck off. Stole money from my account without authorisation, put me in out of contract horendous charges, holding us to ransom because we refuse to pay extotionate made up bills, just had 32 letters from them delivered same day!!
And the laugh is SSE response within 72 hours because it's in the public domain, yet a response from the complaints department over a year!! A joke of a company

I have just received a letter from SSE stating that our RTS meter will be switched off in June. SSE engineers have tried to install a smart meter, but were unable to do so, because they could not get a signal. Our business is in the North Isles of Shetland, so signal problems are understandable. However, what are we expected to do? Will we have no electricity from June? The lack of understanding, or even polite interest, from SSE is mind-blowing. They literally could not care.

If I could give no start or minus I would - one of the worst utility companies I had to deal with. Took them over a year to sort out billing, they were sending debt collector letters for invoices that were not generated - they have updated software and are behind on things. You can understand small delays but not a year! And they should not be sending debt collector letters if they are behind on paperwork. They constantly change bills, reissue them with new amounts - you don't know what is right. After receiving final bill - then they've decided it's not final and sent some more ......just one big mess
Also, after I've raised a complaint they didn't even acknowledge they have messed up - just sent a letter that they've communicated all etc - just useless. Most staff on the phone hasn't got a clue about what they're supposed to do, replies to emails take weeks - no apologies, nothing from them. Just avoid at all costs.

What a shambles!
Told on my initial call that gas and electric was with them and they have switched the national database from commercial to business as requested. Only to call again and be told the gas isn't even with them! CS team seemed clueless and not able to support… so happy to have transferred away, once the bill is settled I will be ecstatic not to deal with this cowboy company again.

I was given further information by Sarah on 18th and then by Raeven on 20 February on the arcane process of changing the profile of my account from business to domestic with a view to switching suppliers, as my 3 year contract draws to a close when it would face the uncertainty of potentially higher costs known under "Variable Business Rates". The procedure would only really make sense to someone who worked in the energy industry but the steps to be followed were explained to me painstakingly and I am now confident to proceed. I extend my thanks and compliments to these ladies, Sarah and Raeven, who are a credit to their Company.

Please avoid this company, it's awful and unprofessional! Last year we move to the new shop, and trying to get an contract with them, but they refused me . After , I get the contract with another energy supplier , but I call SSE before May 2024 to pay for what I owed them . They said nothing to pay ,my new energy provider will send me a bill for everything. For about 1 months we didn't have energy at all ,because we change the cable. After 9 months I have received a bill with wrong amount to pay . I have contacted them to solve the issue, but they make my bill even higher. I regret that I didn't record our conversation in 2024 . Please if you want to talk with them record everything, because the customer service is awful, no help, and very rude. Trying to talk with them several times to solve it, but nothing happened. They keep saying that the bill is right and I have to pay that amount. No guys isn't right! When I have asked what's the monthly fixed price, nobody answered me . So how you create a bill? I have provided the meter reading from the 1st day when we sing the contract with landlord. Also send the meter readings. I'm happy that I'm not your customer. And regret that I didn't read the reviews before contacting you.

Just I had a letter from SSE that my business contract has come to an end last month and the tariff revert to standard because that I haven't renewed it last month.
The surprising fact is that I have contract until 2026 and they wanted me to pay enormously amount by cheating the system and wrongly accuses me that I ignored the renewal date.
I don't understand why thegovernment is not doing anything about it to help people with their misery and why not auditing and punishing these companies for their wrong doing as they are living with the blood and sweat of the misery of the public.
it's beyond my imagination that when I called them and gave them the proof and evidence that it's not true and they are falsely claiming that the contract has ended, they just said:
Oh sorry that letter sent by mistake so sometimes it happens.
When I see the public comments here with all the red comments and reviews, it increases my blood pressure.
For God's sake there is a law and a proper system and rules to follow!! Why don't anyone care and bother about these problems that created by these big utility companies?
Please someone in somewhere need to do something and clean this miss.

Terrible customer service . Haven’t received a bill for two years . Chased them up apparently don’t know why . Ombudsman have got involved they have told the company to implement changes should be done by Dec 2024 . Received a bill estimated again wanted to charge me a £1000 pounds for one month .

I completed an online complaint form for my Elderly Aunt re an issue, mostly, down to this Company.
I had a ring back from a gentleman called Andy (lovely Scottish accent if that helps to identify him). Andy was very efficient in explaining to me the delay in the issue being resolved, which was a valid explanation, and assured me he would contact the local Engineer in order to try to resolve the issue quicker.
All in all I felt the complaint was dealt with and I understood more about why it would take the time it takes to resolve the issues.
I did tell Andy that when my Aunt had a power cut, a month or so ago, she could not praise this Company highly enough for their Customer Service. I do believe, sometimes, Service Users need to understand and have some patience.

There aren’t words to describe how bad this company is to deal with. We inherited this supplier and it’s been failure after failure. We’ve taken them to the Ombudsman who confirmed several failures yet they still deliver shockingly bad service. Can not recommend—can warn against.

I suffer greatly with my mental health and anxiety... and tried to take my life several times....... Hence now I work three half days a week... Which is good for me and my wellbeing. I'm Sixty three years of age and have found a balance at last in my life.
Then I signed up with SSE... Which has caused heartache stress worry and now psoriasis which has recently developed on my body...
I had so many bills.. Which I never really understood.... I spoke with so many different people with no customer service training whatsoever... I rang one day and an adviser gave me another telephone number to a completely different company.
There were so many people... It was joke.
Even the so called management with a title were clueless.
I gave up in the end and I had citizens advice and latterly onbudsman Steve.
So Ive had an account 7th October 24 to 7th January 7th £2047.14..which I will pay...
The disputed £3381.28

I have noticed after going through your bills there's a bill for a site visit £72....really..?
I will deduct that off my next monthly payment due February 7th... NB.... Monthly Billing.
The sooner June arrives... the better I will feel...

As a residential management company, we had the misfortune to be a SSE Business Energy customer until 31/10/2024 but the problems did not end there. Having been overcharged consistently on the basis of estimated readings - no actual readings taken for > 3 years - we changed supplier and sent in final readings for the two meters (one for each block of flats) to both SSE and the new supplier on 31/10/2024. SSE also asked for readings for 01/11/2024, which were given. We were due a refund on both meters and received one refund in early January 2025 after two months of persistent calling to Customer Services and receiving two months of assurances that "the Refund Team were looking into it". The refund on the other meter still hasn't been paid. Speaking to a series of Customer Service Assistants, their reasons for the non-appearance of the refund is: a) "it is with the Refund Team", b) "the Refund Team are looking into it", c) "there are too many [!] estimated readings and they [?] cannot calculate the final invoice [and the final refund] and, today, d) "no final readings have been received from the new supplier" [sic] (this last Customer Service Administrator really surpassed herself in incompetence). I have raised a complaint with the company but have received only the standard, automatic placeholder email.

Incredibly poor customer service. It is impossible to get in touch by email. One is forced to do everything in 80’s style, namely calling their customer service (in 2025!). Nobody picks up the phone, and they don’t call back like any civilized company would.
They send tons of paper by snail mail with their arcane black magic calculations for gas and electricity usage. Those people are supposedly Net Zero tree huggers but they destroy so many trees in order to send their useless papers. Receiving multiple invoices for the same time period is standard. Receiving threatening snail mail for unpaid invoices which were paid on time is normal.
They play classical music to soothe your nerves, but it would definitely be more fitting if The Prodigy played in the background when dealing with SSE Energy. It is 2025, please improve (provide modern means of communication) or go bankrupt and vanish for good.

I had an awful experience with their service. After moving into my new premises, I received my first bill nine months later, which had a variable business tariff that was double the contractual tariff price. Landlord has change contract to my name, however I wasn’t aware that would affect the tariff I was on.
The first tenancy change letter arrived five months after I moved in, and I received my first bill nine months later, demanding full payment without any explanation. The lack of communication and responsibility on their part is extremely frustrating. I would not recommend their service based on this experience.

Been with them for years. They ignored many actual meter readings as their estimates more profitable for our seasonable use. Normally get emailed bill then posted paper bill. Got neither in dec. They claimed twice. Bank bounced twice £7 x 2. 9 jan got 2 letters in sep env, one dated 20 dec and other 7 jan saying now tf to debt collection agency. Never missed a payment ever. Avoid!

This energy provider has taken almost £9000 from our client's bank account by direct debit where the annual consumption should be circa £1800. When trying to sort the matter, the representative used every possible way to avoid having to deal with the matter whereas I would provide sufficient identification verification. Incidentally, the same supplier did not have any issues accepting the initial instruction with the same reservations about identification checking.
In any other walk of of life, these organisations would be investigated for fraud. The account was previously significantly in credit for past overcharging.
A complaint to the Energy Ombudsman will be formally made if not resolved within 14 days.
Beware of this organisation.
