Retention Over Compassion
My mum seemed to have signed up with lots of Times things back in the day (wine, print vouchers etc.) She now has dementia and hasn't used these things for years but is still duly paying for them all. For example, over £30 a month for print vouchers for The Times, which she hasn't remembered to use, or understood what they are, for years. I called them to cancel her subscription, and they just didn't seem to understand or listen. They told me she'd never received any promotion and been a loyal customer for around 10 years, so they wanted to give her half price for three months. I just don't think they were listening to what I was saying, they were more interested in pushy sales and retention tactics. Her payment for the next month had gone out the day before, and they wouldn't even refund that as a good will gesture. Bear in mind that mum has been paying several hundred a year for this subscription for a decade, and has not bought any papers with them for years (nor does she use the internet).
Subscriptions like this seem to be a very bad idea for older people, and I guess a great idea for these companies to make money!

Only want to buy Sunday times on line now and again, do not wish to sign up as I prefer print if possible, also I live in possibly most remote part of England. Can’t do it , independent allows one off purchase willing to pay full price for convenience

Advertise offers that customers cannot use
They recently advertised an offer where you buy some papers and get some free tickets for Alton Towers.
After collecting the papers and relevant tokens, and sending them off it took them over a month to send us some tickets, which were for THE DAY AFTER I received them.
When I contacted them about this, I just got a very abrupt 'Sorry, the dates can't be changed' message.
It seems that the Sunday Times want a way out of these offers, so they get us to buy papers but don't allow us to use the tickets. The closing date for entering for the tickets was only a couple of days after the last token was published, meaning a lot of people would then miss the deadline, they then take a MONTH to send me tickets that they post out 2 days before the date I am expected to go.
Very poor offer, and very poor customer services. I shall certainly NEVER buy one of their papers again
