Absolutely the worst experience I ever had with an Internet provider. For 3 days my Internet has been down and they do not inform me about anything, it's really difficult to get in touch with them and even when you finally manage to reach them they have no idea what's the problem and can't even tell when my would be repaired. My work depends on my Internet connection and they don't seem to be in a hurry to fix anything and don't provide refunds nor financial compensation. Choose any other Internet provider in Hungary, but absolutely stay away from Telekom.
Customer for internet services
Customer for internet services since August 2024 as foreigner (meaning non Hungarian). As I wanted to get the best internet (working from home) I checked opinions for my area (Budapest 2) and found that it was the best option. Installation has been pretty quick (less than 10 days between my visit in shop and working service at home). Technician came and had to do some extra installation to bring the line to our place. Over the months I had some low internet speed or disconnection so always a concern but generally speaking no major concern and services as good or better then in Paris Area or Prague. In December 2025 I had major concern with several internet losses during the day. I sent an email during Christmas and new year and got automatic reply saying I will be contacted. 2 days later a technician came home to change the internet box and do some wifi set up. Getting such quick fix is great. With our previous experience in different countries it would have taken at least two weeks.
Bad service at everything in 2025.
I have ordered a phone from Telekom HU. It was a renovated, a barely - but already used iPhone. When I received it, I was in a little shock: The phone was renovated, but the screen was fully scratched, which is not something I was expecting. As I received it by post, I went to the closest Telekom office. The guy working there says, that was a risk when I bought an already used phone (I would say OK, but then it was a scam and I'd never ever in my life would use Telekom services again). Luckily after some further conversation, he decided to contact his manager (by phone), which agreed to retake the phone and to cancel my order. When you have an ongoing order in the system, you cannot order a new phone or do any changes. I was told, the processing of the retake of my phone will take 15 days, and then I can order a new phone again. 2 months have passed (my original phone is not working), and my reservation is still ongoing, meaning I still couldn't order a new phone, even though my previous order was cancelled 2 months ago. I have reported the case twice online and once in person, and it did not cause any changes and I did not even receive any feedback at all. I'll run away from Telekom HU forever now.
Worst company ever.
Scam. I needed another phone number and service, so I got another local SIM card. Everything was fine at first, but one day the SIM card suddenly locked my phone out of nowhere, I didn’t even press anything. I tried to cancel the service, but no one responded. Now I’m stuck with a one-year contract even though I don’t use the service anymore. If I’d known this would happen, I would’ve gone somewhere else.
More than 50% traffic loss
Horrible internet, 40-75% traffic losses. Checked from different locations in Budapest. Awful internet quality.

I’ve been dealing with this mess for over a month now, and it’s just absurd. I’m paying for a 1Gbps fiber plan, but I can barely get stable speeds. Whether it’s on Ethernet (Cat5e cables, of course) or Wi-Fi (even on the Wi-Fi 6 standard and the 5GHz band), the connection is just flat-out terrible. Every single day, I'm dealing with unbearable packet loss, constant disconnections, insane ping spikes, and speeds that fluctuate like crazy—sometimes I get 500mbps download, then other times it shoots up to 900mbps, or maybe it even plummets down to a measly 200mbps, but it never stays stable. EVER.
To make matters worse, I suspect they’re using HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coaxial) instead of true FTTH (Fiber To The Home). A technician confirmed this, which actually makes sense given the terrible performance I’ve been dealing with. I’m paying for top-tier fiber service, but getting a hybrid connection that’s clearly not cutting it.
I’ve called and complained multiple times, and Telekom keeps telling me "nothing's wrong on their end"—yet the issues never get fixed. Customer service is honestly a joke. They don’t take responsibility for anything, and I’m left dealing with the same problems day after day. It's been getting worse, and entertainment is basically impossible! I can't even do online gaming because it just keeps disconnecting all the time.
If you’re thinking about going with Telekom, just look elsewhere. Complete waste of money.

So disappointed I lost my number for their incompetence. After repeated attempts to fix the problem. Also instore workers are incredibly rude and unprofessional. Choose another company.

Hi. We have a big problem here. I used to have a optik contract with you. I gave back the router to cancel the service JANUARY 2024 , 13 MONTHS AGO, and you are still charging me the monthly bills. I also left the apartment 13 months ago, so can you stop charging me and fix the debit issue you are creating? Regards

Internet not working every second day
Internet not working every second day. For weeks now. If any other noname ISP is available in your area, pick that. Can't be worse than this absolute joke of a company.
They are amateurish, incompetent and couldn't care less about their customer's experience..
Their customer support is a joke. I ordered internet from them about 3 weeks ago. Nothing happened since. No communication from their side at all either. If I call them for an update I only get lectured by their so-called support that they have 30 days (!!!) to install it so I should just stay put and wait for their calls. They always say they will look into it and give me a callback. They have not called once.

I have been waiting for 3 weeks to get the Wifi done. However, they messed up with my 1st appointment and blamed it all on me since I did not call them on time???
The second time, the guy came into the building and just left because he could not find the flat.
Now, they are telling me to go into their OFFICE AGAIN and start everything from the beginning.
NOTE: I signed the contract, they did not ask for any documents. Suddenly, after their 2nd mess up I need to provide something else and this is the problem - not the fact that their EMPLOYEE JUST LEFT WITHOUT RINGING THE INTERCOM.
PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THEM AND SAVE YOUR TIME.
I will make sure to notify everyone I know so that can choose Yettel or similar.
No operators spoke english
I've got a prepaid sim for internet. The speed was fine for 1 week (40-70 Mbts) but sudenly droped to 3Mbts and 600ping. When I caled customer service, non of the operators spoke english so they diverted my call to leave a mesage and end my call...
Very weak but overpriced provider
Very weak but overpriced provider. The mobile coverage and Internet is OK but the wifi, landline and TV are unreliable, overcomplicated and not customer friendly at all. After the installation, the customer support is weak, the wifi is on and off and tge Android TV box freezes on the channel I watch and keeps asking reset/restart every day. The registration process is complicated. Compared to other providers Tkom is at the end of the ranks. Not recommended unless you have no other choices.

You will have a better chance raising the dead than raising any response from their customer service - tried using chat......been waiting for a response for over 40 minutes......
If possible sign a contract with ANY other provider
After 6 attempts to get some sort of support to rectify their abysmal service absolutely nothing has been done - we did however get to rate their service - absolute ****
The story continues - today I enquired about an open help ticket - it was closed as fixed - apparently the technicians spoke with me - strangely no one contacted anyone in the house
They asked if I wanted to open another ticket - whats the point? They wait two days then close them anyway as fixed
The service is so bad it is comical - save your sanity and use another service provider
Conclusion to story - we inform them that we will cancel and name the alternate service provider that we will engage - suddenly there is a technician phoning on a thursday evening as we sit down together for dinner - he can come now! Its not convenient we say....he asks do you want me to fix the internet or not? No.....the new provider is excellent and internet has been un-interupted since we set the router up
Conclusion is after a number of weeks Telekom woke up - too late...the new provider is outstanding

I pay for 1000/1000 gigabit wifi, I ordered a cheaper package but that's what they're billing me for.
I don't get 1000 down and 1000 up of course, speed tests says it's around 600/400, which is fine.
What isn't fine is how they throttle my internet speeds when I use anything over 50mbps for longer than 1 minute, ie 5% of the speed I pay for.
The speeds are throttled down to about 7mbps, less than 1% of the advertised speed.
Less than 1%!!!!!
If you're not streaming or sending large files over your connection that might be fine but then you don't need to pay for 1000/1000. I am paying for that package and I want to be able to use the service I am already being overcharged for but no Telekom.hu is a scam.
They offered a 2 year loyalty for a new…
They offered a 2 year loyalty for a new contract but they extended the loyalty for all my other contracts with them (in all 5 so I am a loyal client). I never agreed to that and when I complained the manager of the Szentendre shop said I must had been infomed (lie) and raised his voice and was extremely hostile and unprofessional. Totally unaccapteble, will leave them asap with all my subsciptions.
