Borgsom wordt geblokt op je creditcard, althans dat zeggen ze. Daarna schuiven ze je een extra verzekering onder je neus zonder te melden, welke je dus tekent omdat je denkt dat het over de borgsom gaat.

The clerk never asked if I wanted these services. Instead, he signed them without my knowledge. I have these insurances through another company. It is not my signature after each addition either. I am now reporting this to my card company. I will never rent a car from Trifty/Herz again.

WARNING! AVOID THRIFTY IN SPAIN!
On December 30th 2025 I picked up a car, pre-booked, through Booking.com, at Malaga airport. At the counter I was met up by a very friendly lady, who was given all the booking details I had been given by Booking.com, including my full insurance, which she seems to acknowledge. The only question I was asked in terms of adding optionals, was if there where any additional drivers, which I declined. She got my bank card, and I signed the contract, and thought no more of it. Until two days later, when I noticed €374 was charged to my account, which is just as much as I had pre-paid for the entire rental. When I contacted their customer service I was informed that this was additional insurance, airport tax and VAT??? And the reason for the added insurance was that I had presented a debit card instead of a credit card, which I, of course wasn’t informed of on site. The extra taxes weren’t even explained.
My asking for full refund of these extra charges were completely ignored by Thrifty.
Booking.com should have some cred though, for refunding the prepaid insurance.
The reason I picked Thrifty in the first place is that I thought it was a reputable company and not a company with shady business practice, bordering to fraudulent behavior.
I’m going to Malaga/Costa del Sol at least 5-6 times per year, and I’ve never had this experience.
It’s not much money, but it’s the feeling of being ripped off that hurts.

Über CHECK24 gebucht alles mit versichert. Trotzdem mit einer Supercovk die ich nicht wollte , abgezock worden .
Der Mitarbeiter wollte das Auto nicht raus geben da meine gebuchte Versicherung nicht aus reicht. Und ich alles unterschreiben müsste. Ok beim nächsten Mal weiß ich bescheid wie die da betrügen.Nichts unterschreiben.
So machen die sich keine Freunde
Und Werbung sieht anders aus schöne Grüße auch an Hertz. Das ein Unternehmen sowas nötig hat fehlen mir die Worte. Jetzt versuchen die zu unrecht gebuchten Gebühren zurück zu bekommen.

SOCIETE FRAUDULEUSE

Loué un véhicule par booking, le comptoir m'encaisse une caution de 330€ qui ne me sera jamais remboursé au final.
Malgré un véhicule rendu impeccable et un contrat de location tout dommage sans franchise.

S'apparente à un Arnaque bien rodée:
Location d'un véhicule un dimanche chez THRIFTY Aéroport de Séville SVX51 (23/11/2025).

Carte Visa Premier refusée au comptoir au motif qu’elle serait « débit/crédit », sans aucune tentative de préautorisation ni justification contractuelle.

Sous la contrainte du refus de remise du véhicule, assurance complémentaire imposée pour un montant de 220,37 €.

Même discours constaté sur place auprès d’autres clients au retour de notre véhicule.
Aprés recherche, il s'agit bien d'une "pratique assimilable à une vente forcée" donc une ARNAQUE !

Réclamation écrite et mise en demeure envoyées à Thrifty et Hertz (dossier n°30817790) : aucune réponse à ce jour (Janvier 2026)

Finger weg! Auch mich hat man, wie alle anderen die eine Rezension geschrieben haben, betrogen. Gleiches Muster.
Nie wieder Thrifty, nie wieder Malaga, nie wieder Check24. Dass Check24 da nichts macht, verstehe ich nicht.
Und das beste ist, dass man jetzt Thrifty Malaga nicht mehr auf Google bewerten kann. Zu viele negative Bewertungen und schon geht das nicht mehr. Wie die das wohl gemacht haben? ;-)
Da lobe ich mir Trustpilot.

Über booking.com bestellt und auch (inkl. einer Zusatzversicherung ohne Selbstbehalt) bezahlt! Da wir in Eile waren und leider Vorort nicht ordentlich den Mietvertrag von Thrifty durchgelesen haben, wurden uns 1 Woche später € 167.- für 4 Tage von der Kreditkarte von Thrifty abgezogen! Also doppelte Gebühren für uns ohne meines Erachtens darauf wirklich hingewiesen zu haben!! War das 1. und letzte Mal- so gewinnt man keine Kunden! Aber aus Schaden wird man klug

Watch what you sign. They will quietly tell you about supercover, swipe your card and you have agreed to pay extra 3 days after you return the car. Made me feel gullible.

Awful company and absolute scammers, they charged me 850 euros for damages that were never there, after back and forth they made up lies upon lies, this must be a common thing for them, please dont use.

Absolute crooks at Malaga airport. We did not take the top up insurance. Given a form with an incomplete record of marks. Told we had to record all marks. Missed one on a wing mirror given darkness of the car park. Upon return, lady went straight to that mark and told us we needed to pay! When we pointed out that no way to prove it wasn’t there when we picked it up, given all the other marks which were there and were not recorded, she accused us of speaking to her rudely. Classic. No supervisor available. Her own colleagues agreed with us and said there would be no charge. Today we got a bill for €60 admin fee and €56 damage. It’s a scam.

We booked an car for 8 days online in advance. a) Online it said that fuel tank is full and can be returned empty (option was 20 Euro higher than full to full), so we selected it, only to be informed that this is a paid service, not included already in the fees that we paid and would cost 45Eur service fee on top of 150Eur for the full tank
b) Even though online contract said inclusive of all fees and taxes, they charged extra 35Eur airport taxes
c) When I showed the counterstaff the printed contract, she basically said I have no idea why they said this, Its a mistake, you can either pay or leave without the car but we will consider you a no-show and still charge you.

Lots of other issues with the car as well. While we waited for her to calm down, another renter came in and said the puegot thrifty rented to him 2 days ago broke down on the road because of engine problem. He was thankful he had full insurance because they were trying to make him pay from his own pocket for the tow truck even though the problem was with the car engine and they should have paid all along.

Avoid at all costs.

Vorsicht vor Betrug! Ich hatte einen Mietwagen gebucht über billiger-mietwagen.de und hierbei auf eine Absicherung durch Rückerstattung ohne Selbstbeteiligung geachtet.
Ich habe noch nie in meinem Leben – und ich habe schon viele Mietwagen in vielen verschiedenen Ländern gebucht – eine Extraversicherung abgeschlossen.

In Malaga am Thrifty-Schalter war ich etwas in Eile, um eine geplante Veranstaltung rechtzeitig zu erreichen. Wir haben schnell den Grenzübertritt nach Gibraltar abgehandelt und ich habe alles unterschrieben. Mit keinem Wort wurde ich gefragt, ob ich eine Superversicherung abschließen wolle.

Sie wurde einfach ohne mein Einverständnis auf den Vertrag gesetzt. Ist mir leider erst aufgefallen, als von der Kaution ein geringerer Betrag als erwartet zurückerstattet wurde. 3 Tage Superversicherung a 24 Euro = 72 Euro. Einfach weg…
Dazu eine Flughafengebühr von 17 Euro, die laut Aussage von billiger-mietwagen normalerweise immer in der Buchung inklusive ist. Macht 89 Euro, die man sicher besser ausgeben kann, als hier so abgezockt zu werden.

Von Argus Car Hire, dem „Zwischenhändler“ zwischen billiger-mietwagen und Thrifty habe ich übrigens auch keine Hilfe erhalten… Man fühlt sich total hilflos.

Pomimo wcześniejszej rezerwacji i opłacenia ubezpieczenia z góry przez Booking, przy odbiorze samochodu okazało się, że musiałem wykupić kolejne ubezpieczenie oraz ponieść dodatkowe koszty, o których wcześniej nie byłem poinformowany. W rezultacie całkowita kwota wynajmu wzrosła o 174 euro. Całość sprawiła, że czuję się oszukany.

These people are crooks. They booked me for top up insurance when I said I did mot want it and I did not spot it on the form I signed. They did not charge me at the time but waited till 3 weeks after I handed back the car so I could not spot it. They also only included breakdown cover in the Malaga area and advised that in Seville where I was travelling there would be a 900 € charge but I could insure against this for 170€. Unbelievable.

They tried to charge me for their extra insurance even though I’d taken extra cover through Jet2, when I said no the attitude change was instant and was told that the cover I had wasn’t good enough. Given a manual instead to the automatic I’d paid for. Finally given the car I’d paid for which had damage all over, went back to tell them as none was recorded on the sheet. Told it was all ok, but I still took a video. I’d obviously been marked as a problem as I was the only one out of 5 dropping off whose car was inspected. Told there was now damage, so I showed the video, was finally told everything was ok. 2 weeks later got a bill for €300 for damage. Which looked photo shopped onto the pictures. Iv tried to send the video of the car to the e-mail address that I took at drop off which clearly shows no damage on the areas claimed. But surprise surprise it just keeps bouncing back. Now have to go through the insurance to get it sorted.

I was supposed to collect my rental car on 21 December, but due to the winter schedule, the Thrifty office at Girona Airport was closed at the agreed pickup time. This was never communicated in advance.

I was left stranded at the airport with three young children, including a 4-year-old, with no staff, no notice, and no assistance.

The following day, the situation became even worse. I was sent first to an office near the station and then back to the airport again. I felt like a ball being pushed back and forth, while all additional costs were charged to me — even though none of this was my fault.

This caused unnecessary stress, extra expenses, and completely disrupted our work and family plans. I strongly advise avoiding Thrifty.

Wish we had the option to award a 0 star rating. What ever you do , DON’T use Thrifty car hire at Seville Airport. Turned up tired, on a rainy afternoon at 4pm to pick up hire car as booked. Only to be met with sign on office door saying ‘be back at 8pm’. Unbelievable. Would they even turn up then? Tried calling contact tel number. Consistently put through to Spanish answerphone service. Contacted booking firm Auto Europe, they couldn’t get in touch with them either. In the end had to go and hire an alternative car from Budget at a much more expensive rate, as it was an immediate hire. During our 2 hr wait we saw several families arriving at the Thrifty office and experiencing the same problem….no office staff and no car. No Thrifty staff anywhere on the airport and Hertz personnel didn’t want to know, despite being in the same company group. We noticed a box outside Thrifty saying leave yr car keys here on return, so you get no chance to make sure that your return is mutually accepted. God knows what kind of issues they could fabricate. What is so disappointing is that we have successfully used Thrifty many times in the past, but will never do so again. A new low in customer care for us.

Avoid at all costs. Others have used the word scam, and I am very close to believing the same. If you do not take their insurance, they will make sure to find a small scratch somewhere (they even use a flashlight). It is also worth mentioning the unpleasant staff and the pressure they put on customers. Be aware that they also demand the refueling receipt, even if you return the car with a full tank.

Don’t rent here. Absolutely do not rent. They will charge double the amount, it’s in the small letters.
Never again with Thrifty.
