Not to be trusted. Charged an extra €25 for no good reason, even when the man inspected everything. I even refuelled close to airport and provided receipt as requested. Would never use Thrifty again as they are untrustworthy.

Was hier vielfach beschrieben wurde ist leider auch uns widerfahren. Nach der Rückreise belastete Thrifty unsere Kreditkarte mit 312 Euro, ohne jegliche weitere Information. Die Dame am Schalter hat uns bei der Fahrzeugübernahme ausschließlich über die üblichen Kautionen, die auf der Karte geblockt werden, aufgeklärt. Das Fahrzeug wurde von uns nicht beschädigt. Das kann also nicht der Grund für die Forderung sein. Uns wurde am Flughafen auch keine weitere Versicherung offeriert bzw. wir haben nichts abgeschlossen. Jedenfalls nicht wissentlich! Wir vermuten ebenfalls, dass uns eine Versicherung untergeschoben wurde. Dieses Geschäftsgebaren von einem vermeintlich seriösen Anbieter (Hertz) haben wir nicht erwartet.
Check24 hat bisher auch nicht auf die Reklamation reagiert.

Rented a car. Was bullied into buying an extra insurance , took the car , drove to destination. Next day battery was dead , called assistance, the mechanic who came confirmed the battery was not to be fixed , only for as long i kept the car running , drove with the car to Valencia airport to change cars (2 hour drive) got a new car , no issues there . Upon return from this short holliday got the estimate which included refueling the broken car , still communicating with thrifty , no sufficient solution so far

Bis jetzt war ich immer zufrieden, aber dieses Mal gar nicht. Mietwagen gebucht und per Kreditkarte bezahlt. In der Kreditkarte ist eine Vollkasko für die PKW-Anmietung enthalten.
12 Tage für 45,93 Euro.
Bei der Abholung am Schalter sollte ich noch fast 500,-- Euro bezahlen. Für Vollkasko, Tanken und irgendwelche Flughafensteuer. Ich habe dann gesagt, dass ich das nicht brauche. Jedoch sollte die Gebühr für den Flughafen und das Tanken bleiben, ca. 150,-- Euro.
Im Februar hatte ich keine Probleme und musste nicht noch etwas zusätzlich bezahlen.
Ich habe das Auto nicht genommen und bin zum Taxi-Stand.
Jetzt hoffe ich, dass ich die Mietgebühr von meinem Kreditkartenanbieter zurückerstattet bekomme.

Hired a car 12/11/25 for six days and everything seemed to go smoothly. Returned car and after some time the deposit held on credit card was returned.
However, a week later a charge of £174 was taken from card without prior warning as to what this charge was for. Despite calls and emails still no further forward. Fraud claim made to credit card company but I fear I have been robbed by these people. AVOID them at all costs and go somewhere else.

Thrifty hat mir einen Mietvertrag mit Zusatzleistungen untergeschoben, den ich nie gesehen habe und den ich auch nicht unterschrieben habe.
Ganz im Gegenteil habe ich alle mündlich angeboten Zusatzleistungen explizit abgelehnt!
Trotzdem haben die mir den doppelten Preis des ursprünglich über Check24 berechnet Betrages zusätzlich von der Kreditkarte abgebucht.

Ähnliche Erfahrung wie andere hier. Es ist überhaupt nicht transparent, was auf der Rechnung steht. Angebliche Probleme mit Visa-Karten und so weiter

Hired a car for 10 days through DoYouSpain. I have used Thrifty in the USA before and had no issues. Collection was smooth and I declined additional insurance, roadside cover and an upgrade to an automatic. Returned the car, all checked and signed off as damage free.

The next day in the UK I see a 104 EUR charge from HERTZ ESP. No emails so through DoYouSpain I have asked what this is for. A receipt has been sent for Premium Roadside Coverage for 10 days. I have now requested a copy of the signed agreement to see if they have added this on after I declined. I did check the agreement and confirmed no extra charges but I expect a version will arrive that I will not be able to dispute. I see that this has happened to one other person in this forum so I suspect this a regular trick they pull.

We rent cars regularly and I expect high pressure sales but this is very underhand. I had a Hertz booking in the USA for 2 weeks in April which I have now cancelled and I won't be using Hertz/Thrifty again after this.

They took 2 weeks to respond to my request for evidence so I have initiated a credit card claim, but I suspect they will have pushed the roadside cover into the agreement somehow, although the final balance I signed off was 0.00 Euros (as I had paid in advance) so it will be interesting to see how they try to prove this.

Una pessima esperienza. Mi spiace solo non aver letto le recensioni prima di affidarci a questa compagnia, perché quello che è successo a noi coincide perfettamente con ciò che molti altri utenti hanno riportato.

Nonostante avessimo già pagato tramite Rentalcar una copertura assicurativa all risk, al ritiro dell’auto ci sono stati richiesti 280 euro aggiuntivi per sottoscrivere anche la loro assicurazione, sostenendo che quella acquistata in precedenza fosse “inutile”. Inoltre, ci sono stati bloccati 150 euro sulla carta di credito come garanzia per il pieno di carburante, quando in realtà la vettura non ci è stata consegnata con il pieno.

Abbiamo volutamente aspettato due mesi prima di lasciare questa recensione, per verificare che non arrivassero ulteriori addebiti ingiustificati, come purtroppo è capitato ad altri utenti. La sensazione è che, quando riescono a ottenere soldi extra al momento del ritiro, poi evitino ulteriori addebiti successivi.

A peggiorare la situazione, è stato evidente come la dipendente al desk abbia sfruttato il nostro gap linguistico (parlo bene inglese, meno lo spagnolo) per farci credere che non ci fosse alternativa alla loro assicurazione.

Sono molto amareggiata nel constatare che esistano realtà in cui il rispetto dovuto al cliente viene completamente meno. Dispiace pensare che alcuni operatori, probabilmente spinti da direttive interne stringenti, si trovino a sostenere un modus operandi che li porta a sacrificare professionalità e correttezza, assumendosi responsabilità e mettendoci la faccia per politiche imposte dall’alto e ben lontane dal confronto diretto con l’utenza.

Un’esperienza deludente e che non consiglio.

DO NOT USE THRIFTY SPAIN AT MALAGA AIRPORT. They are scammers!!! Supercover insurance was added to the agreement when we did not agree to this. Was charged over €300 on top of what I had already paid booking the car online. At the point of picking up, we clearly declined all optional insurance coverage, a decision made explicitly and communicated to their representative. I wish I read the reviews before booking with them via easyJet. Total scammers please don’t go with them, they need to be closed down as soon as possible. So angry about it, feel for everyone else affected by them.

I got a faulty car in Alicante (Ford Puma with electronic problems, apparently I am not the only one).
Not only was I in deep trouble, they also declined very responsbility and made me pay for the road assistance (and the upgrade to an automatic car, which turned out to be defective). Instead of discussing a compensation for me.
Fraud company, not customer perspective at all.
Strongly dissadvise to use it.

Horror Car rental. We were ripped of like many others. If you dont want to start your vacation being upset, avoid this car rental! They charged us also the fuel service charge despite returning the car full. At first it appears like a good deal - after getting ripped off it isn't.

Rented a car in Malaga, Spain from booking.com. Bought full insurance via booking.com. When I went to a car picking place at the airport, I was given car rental agreement with theirs "SUPERCOVER" insurance I didnt ask. Workers at the desk said nothing about optional insurance and insisted me to sign the agreement. I didn't read carfeully, and signed everything (of course my fault). I was gulible and paid the price. So guys, read carefully everything what they giving to you.

Beware, this company scams you for a local insurance. You end up paying the insurance twice.

Despite stating I was a regular customer including when they used to trade as Firefly, the very rude lady serving me still tried to convince me I would be uninsured if I didn't take out their own ridiculously expensive policy. I always prepurchase this with the booking company so stood my ground and in the end she took the €1,200 deposit. My reward was a significantly smaller car than I'd paid for. I booked a high roof Fiat Diablo kind of vehicle and was given a Dacia Duster which was filthy. Because of the stupidity of pissing off a regular customer I won't be using Thrifty again.

Added hidden charges and did not say anything about local/super insurance which was €250. Which we were told was for a deposit. We had already bought insurance through booking.com.

Sent numerous emails to them and they refuse to accept any responsibility.
I can see that numerous other people have been scammed out of their money by this company.
Please avoid and if you don’t believe me check the Google reviews.

Terrible customer service and a ridiculous admin for €40 for passing details on to authorities. Will never ever use again took fee with no explanation had to chase.

The staff have excellent English and understood perfectly well that I already had fully comprehensive insurance. I showed them my insurance policy which had been printed out and I was asked to sign a document that I was told was accepting the car. I was at absolutely no point told that I was going to purchase further insurance. In fact, I actually asked the gentleman at the counter specifically to make sure that the document did not include any further insurance. I have since been told that somewhere in the small print was an agreement for me to purchase further insurance.
Since I signed against the document, there is nothing that can be done.
This effectively more than doubled the cost of my vehicle hire.
This is extremely unethical practice and I would strongly urge that people not use thrifty in future.

Versuchen jedem!! Mieter am Flughafen ohne Erklärung eine Extra Versicherung „supercov“ unterzujubeln, was leider was immer gelingt, so auch uns mit Oma im Gepäck und keine Zeit und man vertraut einfach zu schnell. Wir haben am Nachbar Schalter auch mitbekommen wie ein älterer Herr extra nachgefragt hat, was das ist und es wurde als deposit verkauft und wird auf jeden Fall rückerstattet. Eine glatte Lüge!
Vorsicht und nie wieder. Hätten auch nie gedacht, dass eine so renommierte Vermietung wie Hertz sowas im großen Stil zulässt. Traurig
