I would strongly advise anyone considering Waggel to think carefully before taking out a policy.

When my dog, Basil, was diagnosed with a high-grade mast cell tumour, I submitted a claim expecting it to be assessed promptly. Instead, Waggel left it sitting for over a month before taking any meaningful action. During that time, they didn’t even request basic information they later claimed they needed to assess the claim.

This happened while I was facing urgent decisions about my dog’s treatment and trying to understand whether I had insurance cover to help with the costs. The uncertainty and delay added unnecessary stress at an already devastating time.

Waggel later admitted that my claim had not been progressed promptly, yet they never apologised for the distress their poor claims handling caused. Acknowledging a delay is not the same as accepting responsibility for the impact it has on customers during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Whether or not they believed the claim was covered, there is no excuse for allowing it to sit untouched for weeks before even beginning to assess it. Pet owners pay insurance premiums expecting support when they need it most, not delays and poor communication.

As a result of my experience, I will shortly be referring my complaint about Waggel’s claims handling to the Financial Ombudsman Service for an independent review.

My experience has left me with no confidence in Waggel, and I would not insure a pet with them again.

All and any claims are denied.

Word of advice to anyone thinking about using this company - make sure you know what your vets are writing down as possible recommendations.

If they recommend something and it isn't done within 3 months Waggle will reject any claim.

A complete waste of time and money, if your dog over 8 years old you will get nothing in financial help, so now save the money in a tin for my 13 year old Springer.

I deeply regret choosing Waggel pet insurance provider. What's marketed as comprehensive cover is riddled with unreasonably low policy limits that bear no relation to real veterinary costs, and the small print is deliberately designed to create grounds for refusing claims rather than paying them.

When my pet needed treatment, I discovered just how many traps were buried in the policy wording — exclusions, sub-limits, and technicalities that exist for one purpose: to avoid paying out. The limits are so low they're essentially meaningless in any serious situation.

I'd strongly urge anyone considering this provider to read every line of the policy document before buying, compare the actual limits against typical vet bills in your area, and ask yourself whether this cover would genuinely protect you when it matters. For us, it didn't. Avoid.

If Zero stars was an option, they should have zero!!!

Their policy wording includes vet's observation notes in your pets history as pre-existing conditions to wriggle out of paying for anything.

They are a standard fraudulent insurance company that takes your money each month and uses policy wording to prevent any payout towards your pets medical needs.
I have just cancelled them.

My recent experience has been: my dog has had a skin tag on his eyelid for most of his life which a vet observed in 2023 in his medical notes. We took out Waggle insurance in 2024. Recently the skin tag has grown and could cause damage to his cornea, so we are having it removed. I have seen the notes from 2023, which are observations, not a condition, however, Waggle's policy wording includes anything that could be considered a symptom of something, therefore, every vets observational notes can be considered a potential symptom, therefore you will not be covered for anything previously observed in your pets medical history.

Prior to this, our dog ended up with wobbly tooth that needed removing. He had chomped down on something hard and weakened the tooth. Waggle decided that a vet's observation of plaque on his teeth in 2022 was enough evidence of a pre-existing condition to void any payout despite us implementing strict teeth cleaning subsequently.

DO NOT USE THIS INSURER, YOUR PET WILL NOT BE COVERED!!! The policy is not worth the paper it is written on.

Waggle hound Chinese made and shipped product. Not made in New Zealand. Bottle was unsealed when it arrived with cheap lid and dispenser (the squirter dispenser). No listed ingredients for the Bacon Flavour??) I asked but did not get an answer. Said they are now sealing the bottles,(after I got mine unsealed) but are they ???Dont feel safe giving this to my dog as I just do not know what exactly is in it. Same person 'sally' responds to all emails wonder if 'sally' is real or AI. Just dont trust it.

Very poor, took out pet insurance, our dog required life saving surgery and when we needed them most waggle was not there to support. Declined the claim with very little grounds, awful experience and will be taking up with the ombudsman!

Waggel advertise on their website that claims are processed and settled in 14 days. I have now been waiting 7 weeks for them to process payment for my cats end of life care. This is stressful, and leaves us out of pocket and unable to get closure on the passing of our pet.

Whenever I contact them I am met with what seems like an AI chatnot who tells me things are taking a little longer, and when I do eventually get through to a human they tell me they will escalate it with the claims team but give me no update.

Do not use Waggle. They will make what is already a stressful time even worse.

Opted not to have policy renewed. They renewed the policy anyway, I've cancelled the policy id did not want or ask for and they will not repay the money they took. Avoid. Terrible company

A company that doesn't pay out. Lost a puppy and they aren't accepting my receipt. Should be paying £1,000 for death purchase price and they have paid me £50 which is laughable. Also has taken over 2 months to even get to this stage. Obviously will be getting the full £1,000 off them as they cannot not pay when it's in their terms and conditions. N

Please do not use this company unless you are hoping not to have to claim, they have been processing my claim for months, they look for every possible loop hole and even question the authenticity of vet records. My vet who obviously deals day in and out with pet insurance companies said they have never come across anything like it and even going as far as writing them a letter to tell them why their decision are not medically sound. Save yourself the money and the stress when your pet is unwell and use a decent company

There seems to be alot of negative feedback on this company but I haven’t experienced anything like this. They reply to any messages really fast and have done nothing but be helpful to me so far 4 years on so thank you

If I could give zero stars I would. This insurance company is a joke. No communication for 6 weeks I contacted them and they are now doing everything to drag this claim on and looking for excuses not to pay. They say my vets have not sent the details whenever the vets have now sent it twice. They are looking for an excuse not to pay. I’m glad I discovered this now dread to think how they would behave if it was a really large bill. I’m going to cancel this policy and go elsewhere. This is a joke.

It’s been a month and still waiting for them to pay out. Each time I contact they tell me the same generic thing that it’s with their claims team. Absolute joke

I got a pug pure breed puppy July 2024 and looked around for pet insurance i read many bad reviews of people being refused payouts when their pet was ill but one company (waggle) kept coming up with positive reviews about how great they were so i opted for them hoping i would never need to claim unfortunately that moment came 1 day after maxs 1st birthday i very nearly lost him to meningococcal bacteria waggle came to maxs aid and paid out in full the staff were fantastic so supportive and sympathetic and sorted my claim within 4 weeks i highly recommend them they have been absolutely brilliant

Had 2 x policy's with them avoid at all costs they don't pay out just cancelled my dogs insurance as went to claim they refused my claim saying it's pre existing condition absolutely terrible company AVOID AVOID at all costs!!!!

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with my pet insurance. Unfortunately my experience has been nothing short of terrible and I feel compelled to leave 1star review.
I encountered numerous issues, including claim denials, slow processing times and poor communication. Overall I found out the service to be unreliable and unhelpful, causing unnecessary stress during an already difficult!
I am would not recommend that pet insurance to any other pet owners- waste of time!
