Bailey Nelson Main St, Vancouver
The Main St location is absolutely fantastic. Regardless of whenever I have gone, they have been helpful without being pushy, have a great variety of wear to chose from as well as more than reasonable turnaround that you get excited for your new specs.
(The Metrotown location, not so much)
I’ve been getting glasses through Bailey Nelson and Ollie Quinn on Main st, on and off for the past 20 years. After occasionally trying other places on a whim, I always go back to the Main st location. People there are absolutely fantastic
I ordered Progressive Lenses glasses…
I ordered Progressive Lenses glasses and went twice for eyesight adjustments. No one informed in advance for return/final sale policy. When I reached one of the staff at Chinook Mall and asked for return policy, the staff was very rude and said Bailey Nelson staff told me twice for the return policy. I was shocked because no one informed me in advance, the staff just swipe my card and gave me receipt of the purchase. I left me ordered glasses at the store with their staff and left...no returns, no exchanges, and not even an in-store credit. Zero flexibility, zero customer care.
If you’re ordering from Bailey Nelson, you’re taking all the risk. The product didn’t work for me at all, yet Bailey Nelson wouldn’t budge in the slightest. A company that stands behind its products should at least offer store credit, especially when customers can’t try items on beforehand.
Plenty of other eyewear brands manage fair return policies — Bailey Nelson clearly doesn’t care once they’ve got your money. Save yourself the frustration and shop elsewhere.
Senior discount and No senior surcharge because of Alberta Health changes.
We initially went to Bailey Nelson after discovering that most other optometrists are now surcharging seniors including our former place. Nelson Bailey don't, plus they offer seniors a 15% discount on very reasonably priced product, 100.00s less than most eyglass places. No charge for eye pictures as well so more money saved. Dr. Kim does all the tests herself and takes a lot of time going through everything. Best place I've been and will be going back again when we need to.

Transition lens product, not up to standard
I bought two pairs of glasses with graduated transition lens in 2021 from the Albany store Auckland. I’ve looked after the glasses, always keeping them in cases and recently found both pairs of glasses have had the lens turn a golden yellow colour without being exposed to the sun. my previous glasses from other companies have lasted 10 years or more with transition lenses and no discoloration when I took the glasses in today. The sales assistant advised me that I probably shouldn’t expect transition lenses to last four years. She asked me at length about where I kept the glasses hinting that if I kept them in the car exposed, that might be a problem. I assured her that they were always in their case. I advised her that under the consumer guarantees act, and in my previous experience of these lenses, I expected that they should last at least that length of time. She asked me what I wanted to do about it. As part of good customer service I believe the company should offer what they are going to do about it not expect the client to front up with some options. All in all I found the manner of the sales assistant verging on impertinence and very defensive of the company and the unsatisfactory product. They were certainly no words of sympathy or empathy to towards me and what had happened to these expensive glasses. I said I would like the company to explore with the provider of the lens why this discoloration happened and that they should be advising future customers who purchased these expensive lenses that they might deteriorate after four years. The assistant should have expressed surprise at the failure of the productand should have told me that she would be reporting my experience back to the store manager, as an indication that what I had experience wasn’t up to expectation. By offering none of these comments, she endorsed the fact that the company expects the lenses only to last four years. I said I would be bringing up my experience through a review. Had the sales assistant been trained to be more customer, friendly and customer empathetic I may not have written this review. I will not deal with this company again, but I will go into this store in a few months and inquire about transition lenses and how long they expect them to last and I expect them to have retrained their their staff to say that they could deteriorate after at least four years.
Nice choice of fashionable glasses but…
Nice choice of fashionable glasses and the staff are fantastic. The glass isn’t very scratch proof even if you buy the top glass they offer. I am on my second pair and I’ve had them for a year and a half now. I am now looking for a new pair but I will find somebody else for better and longer lasting glass.
Bailey Nelson Market Mall
I went in to see what the store had to offer and was pleasantly surprised, I met three staff members and all were extremely helpful and very nice. There was a large selection of glasses, I had my own prescription, and there was a sale on which I took advantage of, I also brought in a pair of frames I had and had them replace the lenses in those. It has only been a week but so far I am extremely happy with what I got, the prescription was perfect which was totally different from the lenses I got from the last place I got glasses from, Pearl Vision which for some reason got it totally wrong. I recommend this store, it took a week to get my new glasses which again, I am extremely happy with. They didn't have any hard cases for my new glasses but fortunately I had some at home which I amusing, the soft cases they gave me do not offer any protection so I am not using them.
Bailey Nelson
Bailey Nelson, Bondi Junction.
Nice people! But.....
Dodgy specs.
Like lenses fog over in say 5 years or less. Frame OK but lenses fading.
I've worn glasses over 60 yrs and NEVER met this before.
Rapid built in obsolescence.
Another pair the lens came out, frame need adjust.
But fogging is expensive failure.
Odd experience
Booked an appointment for my teenage son to have eye exam at Bailey Nelson Queen East in Toronto. After the exam yesterday the doctor did not want to speak with me. I actually tried to speak with her. I thought that was odd. The manager of the store relayed the message that my son could benefit from Blue Light glasses. We then went through the process of selecting those.
Fast forward to this afternoon. The store manager calls, leaves a voicemail, telling me that they have made a referral and that my 15 year old knows about it. He didn’t.
I call back and ask what’s up. I’m told that the doctor, in an abundance of caution, is concerned enough to refer my son to another level of clinic to assess the issue that he brought to their attention. The manager called because she felt the doctor behaved oddly by not speaking to me.
While I’m happy for the referral, I am a bit disappointed that, between the doctor and the store manager, I was expected to hear of the doctor’s concern via a teenage boy.
Anyway, all of this is to say you may want to consider a different shop. In my experience optometrists elsewhere do actually speak with parents of kids about what is necessary to keep the kids healthy. This place sort of does that, though you may have to wait 24 hours and hope that the manager comes to feel a bit off about the doctor to the point of calling to let you know herself
The experience left by Kasia was very…
The experience left by Kasia was very similar to my experience at Bower Place in Red Deer. The optometrist picked a fight with me for asking a legit question about something the she got wrong! She proceeded to escalate the situation and dismissed me as a patient and refused to refund. Dr. Montana Williamson has a huge ego because she refused to admit her mistake and took it out on my me. She even proceeded to tell me that my trial contacts were not too strong and had a tantrum about giving me a pair that was less strong however they were much better and I was right. Just absolutely ridiculous behaviour. Thankfully Bailey Nelson Canada stepped in and refunded. Do not use the Bower Place location in Red Deer because if you have to question her for anything it will end up being the most unprofessional service you will ever have to endure. She should of been fired in my opinion. Making customers feel uncomfortable and unsafe for asking a legit question and continuing to be demeaning and dismissive.
Charged $160 for a poor prescription
I came in for a $140 contact lens exam and the prescription was not correct. I could not see close or far with my new contacts. I also was made to pay an additional twenty dollars just for the eye doctor uttering the word 'astigmatism' with absolutely no details. I have additional problems - my eyes are uneven which she didn't comment on, and I have poor depth perception problems, which she also didn't comment on. The store manager is playing games with me - after multiple phone calls and an email that took 2 days to reply to, I am still no closer to having a proper contact lens prescription. The doctor I saw left the practice and they refuse to refund me $160 or let me see another doctor as I deserve. I live on ODSP and could have gotten my eye exam paid for free but instead I paid the $160 to get great service (I'm used to being discriminated because my disability is invisible) and I did not get it.
HORRIBLE QUALITY
I purchased 3 pairs (my partner 3 pairs) and both our glasses look horrible. The metal on the arms are peeling (I already had the arms replaced once and a full frame replacement on the other, the lenses had to be replaced because the script was wrong), the plastic has already dried out and lost all of the shine. In-between the lens and the frame the metal oxidized and the frame looks dirty.
I just spoke to the manager at London, Ontario location and she was VERY curt and said she would gladly replace the screw but anything else would have to be approved by her supervisor.
I worked as a general manager at LensCrafters for over 15 years and I NEVER experienced issues like this.
Glass frames should NEVER oxidize and loose the protective coating. It is clear that the quality and customer service is horrible and I will never purchase from them again.
Disappointing and Frustrating Experience
Ordered one pair of prescription reading glasses and another prescription pair for distance in a "Shirley" style from Conestoga Mall in Waterloo, ON. Received 2 pairs of distance glasses in a "Tallujah" style instead. Not sure who's at fault here, the salesperson who wasn't paying attention to the prescription or me as the customer and my preference for style of frame, or someone at the factory who misinterpreted the order form. Very disappointing. Would not buy glasses again from them.
Bailey Nelson Botany
Bailey Nelson Botany, seven days from booking eye examination, had eye exam, then seven days to pick up, swift , professional service all round.
Very happy either way both pairs of glasses will definitely return.
Charges for features that are not delivered
Nice frames but advertises features that they don’t offer.
I have now bought 3 pairs of glasses from Bailey Nelson (Park Royal, West Vancouver, BC). The first two I bought about 3 years ago and they are fantastic! I chose the progressive lenses with blue light filter. The first two pairs feature both.
However, I went back in October 2024 and ordered a pair of new glasses, also with progressive and blue light filter lenses. I took them to several optometrists, and tested them myself, and they do not have blue light filter. I took them back and was told that they have since (within the past 3 years) changed labs and there is a new blue light filter technology. I tested all the lenses there at the store and they no longer block any blue light (although they still charge $40 for the feature).
I spoke to the manager, who was very nice and helpful, and said he would contact the lab to get further information on this. Unfortunately, the lab never replied to him and I was offered new lenses, which I ordered but, again, did not block blue light. Disappointing! I am telling all my friends and family so that they do not waste money on features that they don’t deliver on.
I am a senior male who has always…
I am a senior male who has always required glasse, in my dotage, for reading mostly and for distance. This past Novemeer, 2024, I changed my opticians and went with Bailey Nelson. I got 2 pairs of glasses, one reading and the other, sunglasses. Rather than providing me with progressive reading and distance glasses, they provided me with reading "only" glasses. This meant that my "distance" rx was non-existant. Which, in turn, meant that I could read well through the lower portion of my lenses. But, the upper portion was very blurred since there was no "prescribed" prescription. It was just "glass". Why, then, would I have not been prescribed progressive lenses to include distance along with close-up reading? Although I am a retired senior, I can still manage to drive a car; but, not with these glasses -which only permit me to read my maps, but disallow me to read the roads in front of me which are now very blurry. I must say that the staff were very friendly and attentive but, perhaps, a little clueless where it matters.
Lens are super smudgy despite paying…
Lens are super smudgy despite paying for premium coating , staff suggested cleaning them multiple times thoroughly to me, over heard similar advice to another customer who came with same issue. Not sure if they actually have any special coating or just fool customers. Never had this problem with previous glasses, lesson learnt….never again!
Frames are of inferior quality
Frames are of inferior quality for my prescription lenses, bought on the CBD Cashel St store after going several times for adjustments (it always comes loose and doesn’t stay straight as it should) today I was very badly received by the seller who told me the problem is with my face not with the frames. Not going back there ever again, I feel ripped off and humiliated.
I purchased frames online
I purchased frames online . The glasses I purchased were on sale 2 pairs for 159.00 . Which I thought was great . The reason for purchasing these frames is because my current frames broke . But when I got the frames the Gloria bees knees was not the same colour as advertised online . I got these particular frames because they are similar to the ones I have currently that are broken . So in order not to buy a different frame then I would have to get new lenses . And it would be costly at this time . Know they are letting me return the one frames that are not the same colour but not the total purchase which they should be allowing as it was 2 for 159 and giving me 60.00 to go towards another purchase even though the glasses are not similar to the website picture . Which is ridiculous I’m not even getting my money back for the glasses of 60 dollars ? When it’s not my fault the glasses did not reflect the same colour as the picture on the website . The website showed an orange colour. When I got the glasses they did not look orange in colour I thought I got the wrong glasses . So know I’m obligated to use that money on something else when if I returned the whole deal I could of gotten a different pair of glasses and only had to pay a small difference.. no there just not for the customer . They rather rip you off one time and lose you as a customer over 60 dollars . When they can have you return your purchase and then get the glasses of your choice as you will be wearing them everyday . Horrible never again will I do business with this company . They will accept the one but not two glasses being returned as online shopping is hard to know what you are getting . And I really thought they were a good company. I guess until you have a problem and then you know what kind of company they really are .
Botany Branch NZ 3.1.24
Botany Branch NZ 3.1.24
My husband took our step daughters into this branch today. The sign they had said next appointment available was 2pm. There were two staff members both with one person and one walked away. My husband and step daughters waited around for 30 minutes and in this time no one said hi and refused to make eye contact with them.
In this time other customers walked in and were greeted and attended to.
This is discriminative and dreadful service. No wonder this company only has an average of 2.5 star review.
However will never bring our business here and will be taking it elsewhere to Specsavers. Upsetting that your staff will never acknowledge all customers regardless of ethnicity.
