Update on review of 21st Nov 2021.

There are appear to be no limits to the shame and apparent bullying of the Big Classroom towards negative reviewers. They now resort to intimidating negtive reviewers of their sham service. They must be worried- I would be if I were them with a 91%1 star rating.
They are using threatening and bullying tactics. They complained about the authenticity of my review requirng me to provide verification to Trust Pilot which I did to the satisfaction of this website. They then attempt to intimidate reviewers. Their latest attempt boasted of successful small claims judgements in their favour. As they have only managed 3 court victories aganst duped schools like ours I'm not too worried.
Once again, when our school refuses to pay the fake invoice they issued I challenge them to take us to the SMC. I'm sure any further negative publicity for Big Classroom will be the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.
As way of a further example of their immoral and dubious tactics I quote from a Birmingham city report into their "sharp" practices in their publication; The Auditor. The Big classroom were investigated in a "fraud spotlight"section and all schools in Birmingham LEA were advised to "tread carefuly" when navigating their website.

Apologies if my reply came across as threatening or bullying, i was simply enquiring as to which customer you were so that i could respond with actual facts. We have only taken 3 schools to court and on all 3 occasions we were successful, therefore according to the courts, the schools were not duped. All 3 of these schools have reviews on this site so you can contact them directly. You have challenged us to take you to court yet refuse to tell us who you are. I am still not fully aware of what your issue is. You stated in your previous review that your staff member had signed up after googling us. Your colleague then had over 2 months in which to cancel, but presumably failed to do so. Therefore, we continued to provide the service and of course then invoiced the school for this service. Please correct me if i am wrong and let me know which school you are from and i would be happy to investigate once i have all the facts. I would of course be happy to discuss this with you directly via email or telephone if you would prefer and hopefully we can resolve this amicably.

Warning!

The review was/is a warning to other schools who find themselves in the same situation. Key points - advise staff not to trial the site without permission and without fully reading the 'small print' and if they make that mistake, and end up paying good money from an already stretched budget, then make sure with the company that they are NOT on auto renew.

The cost and auto renewal is not hidden in the small print. The only text on the registration page is this:

By clicking the Join Now button you agree to our Terms and Conditions and confirm you are authorised to register your school.
Membership subscription is £300 + VAT per annum, for the whole school with unlimited usage. If you have a promotion code please enter it here:
You will receive 2 months free membership before your annual subscription starts (at a cost of £300 + VAT per annum) and you can cancel your subscription at any point during the promotional 2 months.

I don't think this could be much clearer AND a confirmation email is sent straight after registration AND a reminder email is sent before the invoice, giving the school 2 weeks notice in which to cancel.

If it was possible to give zero stars, I would do it. Do not touch their ‘free trial’ - it will cost you hundreds of pounds!

We have never used their services and we never will but the invoices keep coming! No doubt they will post some caustic reply to this review!

Avoid like the plague.

You have received an invoice because your school took out a subscription 2 years ago and we have been providing the service ever since. You paid last year without query, so obviously we continued to provide the service as is usual with a subscription. You have now cancelled by simply emailing us so will not be invoiced again next year. This is all completely normal business practice. It is a shame you have not used a service you have paid for and that we have continued to provide. We would be happy to help your staff get up and running to ensure you get value for money.

Appalling ethics and a product that is of little worth

Every reputable company I have worked with in Education that gives a demo or free access for a period of time will then cancel said subscription automatically once that time period expires. Not this company! They would rather take schools to court and take money away from the education sector (and ultimately from the children) than do the honourable thing....what's that old saying about honour and thieves? Many companies would reflect on their practices and change them based on feedback but not these...says enough in my book.

Need to echo what another review says about 'just how little these people care about what their impact has on very tight budgets and are more interested in their profits and bonuses.

I am expecting the standard reply about why sign up, our T&C's are clear, we can help you use this inferior product etc etc.

In my opinion this product that adds no value to a balance curriculum.

I'm sorry you feel this way, but it was very clear that the subscription would automatically renew. We would much rather schools used the site and made an informed decision, which is why we have the auto renew, to encourage people to sign up and use and not sign up and forget.
I really would like to know why you (or any other school) would sign up and then not use, but nobody ever answers. If you look on the site you can see what other schools are doing on there and then perhaps you could get value for money from your subscription.

Do not use! Stay well away! Don't even trial!

This was set up in error by a member of staff that did not have the authority to do so. Although I explained this to Lee he insisted that we pay. We honered the first invoice but Lee was well aware that we did not want it.
We have now recieved another £300 invoice because the reminder email went to an employee that no longer works for the school. Even though I told Lee last year that we didn't want it and we have never logged in or used it he is insisting we pay again, that's £600 that should be spent on supporting young children struggling to get back on track after a very hard year, suffering with emotional, education and mental health problems.
We are struggling to buy books for class and they want money for nothing!
They are unethical and should be ashamed of themselves!

As you know all the details of the subscription were confirmed in this email, which we know you received because you replied to it. I think it is extremely unfair of you to shift the blame on to us, when you were fully aware of what you were committed to. If you have never logged on or used the service, then that is a travesty and a waste of £600, but that is your responsibility.

Avoid this company!...if you can call them a company!!

We are now also in a position of being faced with a £300 bill (£360 including VAT) for something we have not used and will not use.

Any school worth its salt will be doing what they 'offer' as good practice without using a 'company' like this! Money that was intended to pay for legitimate projects will now go to line the pockets of an unscrupulous business that lack moral direction.

This is clearly not an acceptable nor ethical way to run a business. My advice is don't use these 'people'.

I feel they purposely give you a two month 'free' subscription period so people forget. People that work in education have a hectic day to day life and are concerned about helping children. The replies I have seen on Trustpilot shows just how little these people care about what their impact has on very tight budgets and are more interested in their profits and bonuses.

Take stock of the comments bigclassroom.

I appreciate you attempting to justify your business with your responses but I think you need to take stock of the 90% grading it as 1 star and realise that there is a fundamental problem with your model. We are now also in a position of being faced with a £300 bill for something we have not used and with a reminder email going into junk. This is clearly not an acceptable nor ethical way to run. I believe naming countless other schools in the area that have signed up and adding the statement 'I kindly ask you not to dismiss this project because you feel you have this covered' is using a method of marketing that is putting pressure on schools that feel they are 'missing out'. Very disappointing.

Thank you for your review, whilst I understand what you are saying, we have worked with over 11,000 schools over the last 6 years and these reviews make up less than 1%. It is unfortunate and frustrating that you have registered for a service but then not used it. It is strange that the reminder email goes into junk when our other emails do not. We would be open to any suggestions of how we can change this email to avoid this happening, however, we cannot control other peoples spam/junk filters and there is nothing in the reminder email that should cause it to be filtered. Regarding our marketing, yes we do list other schools which have signed up as it is a collaborative project and we want to encourage as many schools as possible to join in and engage to learn about the wide and varied communities and cultures that exist throughout the UK.

Abhorrent scam being run! Avoid at all costs!!
The cost is only stated one time, in very small, grey print at the bottom. It is on the opposite side of the join button, and right next to a promo code entry box, which makes users believe that the grey text is optional. In no way is this cost the "clearly stated" text it's made out to be! Also, there is a reason your emails are being placed in spam. It's because your company has been reported so many times and is recognized by mailing systems as a fraud. Don't bother replying to this review, it's all lies.

The cost is only stated once on this screen, but it is also confirmed again in the Membership Confirmation email and on the original promo email. The text is a sensible size and the same colour as the majority of the rest of the text on the screen. Once you added the promocode the price is stated a second time and this text is added:
You will receive 2 months free membership before your annual subscription starts (at a cost of £300 + VAT per annum) and you can cancel your subscription at any point during the promotional 2 months.
Anybody can view this screen and this text without joining, then decide for themselves if we are lying.
If our emails were being recognised by mailing systems as fraud, then you would not have received our promo email (which you clearly did as you used the promocode from it) and therefore not have registered in the first place. All our emails come from the same domain name @bigclassroom.co.uk

This seems to be a small-scale operation (one family?), run by people who put all of their effort into trying to scam money from schools and doubling-down on Trustpilot - anonymously obviously.

If they put as much effort into running a proper honest, business they might be successful, respected, entrepreneurs.

I feel that is unfair, we work hard to provide our service and we are accused of operating a scam by people who have registered for our service but then not got round to using it. It is as simple as that. We make it very clear that there is a fee involved (you can see this by viewing the join page on our website, you don't have to input any information to see that). For schools that take the free trial it is also very clear that it auto renews (also very clear to see on our website without registering).
Regarding doubling down on Trustpilot, people would complain if we didn't respond. We are consistent in our response: If you sign up for our service and don't cancel before the end of the free trial (which is several months long and there is plenty of notice given), then we expect to be paid for the service we have provided. I'm sorry you don't like our business model, but you have the right not to sign up in the first place.
Unfortunately that is the case, we are working hard to continue to provide the service through what has been a very challenging year and we also have a responsibility to our workers. Some of them are unable to work from home and are not eligible for furlough and we are doing our best to support them both financially and morally.

-We have experienced the same scamming that unfortunately so many others have.
-As others have written, they have accused me of signing up for a free trial. Until recently, I'd never heard of their company, their service is not something we're remotely interested in, particularly not in the middle of 2020...what school in their right mind has time for anything but dealing with the current crisis?!
-6 months after I apparently sign up for a free trial, they start hassling our admin team, via email and phone calls. They state that they have sent me several emails and even have 'print screens' (could well be fabricated). No emails were ever received. Funny that they apparently sent me all of these emails yet couldn't call but as soon as they start chasing the school's admin team, they manage to pick up the blower. Hmmmm....
-The admin team have felt very uncomfortable with the way that they were spoken to, the 'gentleman' making the calls is clearly very well versed in pressure tactics.
-The company should know that without a purchase order (PO) number, a school/LA don't have to pay.

-What amazes me is that when people are leaving truthful reviews, the company is writing fairly argumentative replies. Do they not realise that this makes them look even worse?

I spoke at length with Trading Standards yesterday, who confirmed that they are aware of the company and called them, 'crafty scammers'.

They will clearly know the impact that their practice has on people's wellbeing. To continue to do this in the middle of a pandemic when school's are fighting to teach and support their pupils, is absolutely disgusting.

Trading Standards said that they need as many people as possible to contact Action Fraud. I have already done this.

Dear Laura,
I'm not sure which school you are from so i am unable to respond with specific details. If you would like to let me know (here or privately) i would be happy to provide you with all the evidence relating to your account. We have had many schools register with us throughout this pandemic and using the site to share info. Additionally the site can be used as part of a remote learning program so could be very useful during lockdown. We don't usually send print screens, so i am not sure what you are referring to. We would be happy to send you the actual emails and can also provide delivery receipts to show they are authentic. We request PO on 2 occasions prior to invoice, but state quite clearly that if none is given we will assume it is not required. Less than 25% of schools we work with provide PO numbers, where they are provided we are very happy to include them on our invoices. In the majority of cases invoices are issued without PO numbers and payment is received as requested.
I'm sorry i cannot be more specific in my response, but as i say i don't know which school you are from.

Happy to take money from struggling schools...

Shocking - "free trial" auto renews and charges £360 for something unused and useless. They then send the renewal from another email account so it gets "junked"...time elapses and you are saddled with a bill with threats of legal action. Countless schools on here have been taken in by the same scam and these people seem happy to make money from schools already struggling in the current environment. I hope they can sleep well, knowing they are cut throat bandits with no shame or conscience.

Dear Paul, it was made clear to your colleague that the subscription auto renewed at £300 during registration and in the Membership confirmation email and the reminder email. All our emails come from the same domain name, ie. they all end in @bigclassroom.co.uk so it is very clear who the emails were coming from. Just as your email is different from your colleagues, but they have the same domain at the end so we were able to liaise with you regarding this matter without confusion.

Appalling scam

Appalling scam. Trying to charge the school for a service which has not been used, we have told them numerous times that we do not know how we have been signed up to this. I HIGHLY suspect the whole thing is a scam designed to fleece schools of money. Please beware of this company, there is definitely something dodgy going on.

The biggest scam and bunch of cowboys. They scam schools. Avoid at all costs I am surprised they are still operating the way they scam schools and their dreadful reputation. Cannot stress enough - diabolical company. Don’t bother to respond telling me you will help to set it up.

Felt tricked into signing for a free…

Felt tricked into signing for a free trial by repeated emails claiming all local schools had. Busily signed up not reading the small print and have never logged into the site, therefore never accepting the terms and conditions. Yet they wanted full payment immediately. Scam! Taking a high fee for no service.

I'm sorry you feel tricked, the email you were sent did not claim all local schools had signed, it listed specifically which schools had registered with us. I would be happy to clarify this with you if you contact us directly. You did accept the terms and conditions when you completed the 3 page registration form on our website and links to them were sent to you immediately after registering and 2 weeks before the invoice became due. Full payment was not due immediately, you had 2 months in which to use the site and incur no cost. We would be very happy to assist you and your staff in getting up and running on the site to ensure you get good value for money. Please let us know if you require any assistance.

They're Still At It!

I had a similar issue with this company. A member of staff signed for the free trial and didn't remember to cancel. When I spoke to them, they acknowledged that they could see we hadn't logged on. I then looked at what they were offering and it was not at all good. In my opinion, the business model is not about provided a good quality resource, but getting schools to sign up in the knowledge they are likely to forget to cancel. They probably have a good laugh at how much money they make from this.

The schools that engage and use the site do get good value, but we can't use it for you. It is unfortunate that your member of staff forgot to cancel, but this is why we have an auto renew. We hope this will focus the schools to use the site as it is their responsibility. We do send a reminder email 2 weeks before it renews to encourage usage of the site.

Truly awful experience

Like many, our school received an invoice demanding payment for this service which nobody remembers signing up for or has ever heard of. Their 'proof' is it is our IP address. So with this logic anyone in the building including students could sign up for things and we get billed for it.

In 2020, with Covid, most of the world has pulled together to help each other out, yet this nasty company are just set on making money. Before they had even explained the service to me, all their emails were about the money owed not what the service can offer.

Upon looking at the service it looks next to useless. Supposedly puts you in contact with other schools which I'm more than capable of doing myself using a search engine. As for the 'matching' of schools, don't kid yourselves.

If I were you, if you ever see anything from the Big Classroom just avoid.

I look forward to the standard 'Why did you sign up then' reply from the Big Classroom. Never gets old.

Yes, our system did capture your IP address when you registered, but no, students could not have signed up as when you registered you used a code, which was only sent to the SLT of the school. Regarding covid, you registered in July, at the height of the pandemic. Unfortunately, we do have to make money and you requested a service which we supplied and now we expect to be paid.

Absolute rip off and con you into a free sign up then hit you with an invoice for something that you do not want. I look forward to the sarcastic response on here that other schools have received when trying to warn others of this company. I also advise other schools to seek legal advice as I will be doing.

Why did you sign up for something you do not want?
By signing up that created a cost for us and that is why our subscription auto renews after 2 months free, to discourage people from signing up and not using. The cost and auto renewal is clear for all to see on the join page of our website.

In response to the reply to the last review, it is concerning that you believe 90% of those who review your website are wrong, and you are correct.

Good business act on feedback (your emails going into spam is clearly an issue judging by numerous educational forums and the reviews here).

They do not tell 9 out of 10 of their customers they are wrong and you are right, when the same thing happens with multiple customers.

I return to my point, you repeatedly mention your thousands of customers. If this is true and they are happy where is their positive feedback?

Trust Pilot is the most respected and used review website, which I hold in high regard, and yet you seem to consider a 90% negative rating acceptable.

We do act on feedback. We ensure all our emails come from the same email address domain, we also now instruct all new members to ensure this domain is not blocked by their filters. If you have any other suggestions how we can stop some of our emails being filtered when others are not, i would be glad to hear them.
You had a 2 month free trial when you could have logged on and seen how our site is being used positively by our customers. If you didn't like it you could have cancelled at no cost, but you didn't bother for some reason.
Trust Pilot has over 16 thousand 1 star reviews on it's own site (and that's just the ones they let you see). Because we don't have a paid account with them they don't work with us to push positive reviews. However, we don't see the need, we offer free access for our customers to see for themselves, so they don't need to rely on someone else's opinion.
If you had spent half the time you've spent writing these reviews, looking at our website, you would either be happy to pay or happy that you had cancelled.

Absolutely awful- did not use the free trial due to lockdown and member of staff off sick. Missed the email due to junk mail and working in school in a pandemic.
Now faced with a £360 bill for something we never trialed, used or want.
Completely unprofessional company- nothing like the educational support available via other online support companies.

Due to lockdown we extended all free trials from 2 to 8 months to allow schools time to use. This ensured schools had at least 3 months to use it after lockdown and schools returning.
It is a shame to register for something you didn't want as this put us to the expense of providing the service. This is why it is an auto renewal, in effort to discourage people from signing up if they don't want and have no intention of using.

We have had very similar experiences to the other reviews on here. The system is shocking and not worth looking at. The reminders and invoice went through to our junk emails so not seen. They are saying once the invoice has been raised it cannot be reversed. It is the schools responsibility to cancel and ensure the emails are not blocked. The login in deatis come through fine but for some reason nothing else does. A total scam. Do not use, always check reviews first.

We have no control over your email filters. Our emails are all sent from the same domain name and the email you state went into junk has no attachments and no unusual words in them, so there is no reason it should be filtered. I would suggest you raise this with your IT department. We know that they are received by other schools as many people reply to them. You state that you received the login details, this email clearly confirms the cost and that the subscription will renew if not cancelled. It is the school's responsibility to cancel and you have several months in which to do so. We are not trying to catch anyone out, we want people to use the site, not forget about it.
