I also wish I had read review

I also wish I had read review. Please don't sign up. I have now been billed and it is a total waste of money. The company will not refund this, they are not honorable and I didn't receive the emails, they got filtered. I am furious about this and have emailed them but they are unwilling to drop the invoice. DO NOT SIGN UP TO THIS. I clearly clicked on something and it was marketed as free - I am very angry with this company.

You clicked on something and completed a 3 page registration form. Anybody is welcome to view this form on our website (without signing up) and will clearly see the cost stated right where you click to join. It is not hidden away or in small print. You also added a promocode right next to this text which changed the text to state you got the first 2 months free before your annual subscription starts at a cost of £300. You were then asked to ensure emails from our domain would not be filtered.
We would love to help you use the site to ensure you get full value for money. Please contact us if we can help.

It’s a hard one the way they do it is not very transparent and very easy to sign up thinking it’s free but then the charges arrive so I have sympathy for other reviewers

The concept and benefits to schools and students are great but the marketing practices are not honourable

Disgraceful

Not even worth one star. Disgraceful. Yes, I may have signed up for a FREE trial. but NEVER received any emails stating it was no longer free. No reminders were received - although I am told by their office it may be in the junk folder!
Which Headteacher has the time to check junk folder. As a result (luckily for them) the time elapsed and I owe £360!
I will be taking this matter higher - speaking to our school lawyers and possigbly to Watchdog.
DO NOT SIGN UP AT ANY COST!

It is really clear when you registered on our website that there was a cost. You even added a promo code to ensure you received this. Unfortunately we can't control your junk filters but we do request when you join up that you ensure that emails from @bigclassroom.co.uk do not go into junk. I doubt they did go into your junk as you received our first email, which gave you the promo code, and you received our email today without problem. We have delivery receipts to prove all the emails were sent to you. We also would have expected you to contact us if you didn't receive your log in details.

If only I had checked the reviews on Trustpilot before....
I inadvertently signed up via a subscription trap to The Big Classroom. To be fair, I did receive one email from the company, informing me that I would be charged unless I cancelled my "subscription". Sadly, this email slipped through the net of my school email filter and sat unanswered. When I received an invoice, I was told that I would have to pay the subscription, having never actually used the website or even logged on. I was also told that I had been sent other emails but I have no record of these (I note a similar experience was had by others leaving reviews). Thus I have processed the payment...reluctantly. However, with access to the platform, I thought that I would leave a comment to see how useful it might be for schools. I posting a thread asking for comments on how best to use the platform. I received one "like", thus as expected the platform offers little on this evidence.
I would urge fellow teachers to be very wary of this company (who I am sure will respond with comments similar to the ones left on other reviews saying that they contacted me several times etc etc) and I am fairly sure that word of mouth - and reviews - will result in schools not falling for this subscription trap in the future.

Our year 6 teacher signed up for a free…

Our year 6 teacher signed up for a free trial in November 2019. We were allegedly sent a reminder on 13.01.20 but as others have said, these reminders tend to go to your spam folder. The membership then auto renewed at the end of January and we received a bill for £360 that we were unable to cancel. I hung on to the invoice in the hope that there was a way out but on 14.10.20 we were told legal proceedings would were being taken out against us so we had no choice but to pay. I find this company operates in a very underhand manner and the service they provide isn't worth half what they charge. We are a small primary school and like all other schools are budgets are tighter and tighter every year. You're basically taking much needed public money away from school children. Totally unethical in the way they operate.

Please do not waste your time

Please do not waste your time. The "product" is terrible. If you do accept the free trial be very careful to cancel as soon as you realise how terrible it is because they will take the money from you even if they can see you've never used it. Shocking product shocking ethics - taking advantage of public funded institutions. No scruples at all. Do not use.

Thank you for your review, I'm sorry you feel this way. We provide a platform simply to link you with other schools, how it is used after this and how much benefit/value you get is down to how much input there is from the user. As you say if you don't like it you only need to cancel and you won't be charged.
We would be very keen to hear if you have any suggestions as to how we can improve the product or where you think it is lacking.

No scruples

My head forwarded the free trial email, so I signed up. I saw absolutely no value. The schools that were doing things were no where near be and weren't doing anything I thought was valuable. Very few schools actually doing anything! It was not at all what they claimed it was, so I cancelled.

Luckily, I'm very good with online services and read the agreement thoroughly. I got it, but set how the company is screwing schools over. Yes, they state exactly what the deal is and when you'll be charged, but these are schools funded with public money! Why be so awful and not return money? It's just poor business ethics. They are about money, not about provided a service to benefit children. If they were really about making education better, they wouldn't be so strict with school. So many people feel for the service/scam, so they're is CLEARLY a combination problem. Why not just be decent? The advert is because they want money, not to provide value to education.

Thank you for your review and making it clear that we make it clear that schools will be charged and that you had no problems cancelling within your free period..
I think perhaps you have misunderstood the point of our service as you stated that the schools on the site weren't near you. They aren't supposed to be, the point of our site is to link you with schools from all corners of the UK that are contrasting to yours.
You only get out of the site what you put in. We encourage schools to post on the site themselves and comment on other schools reports with the aim of building a relationship and doing joint projects. We can't do this for you, it requires input from the school. The schools that get the best value from our site engage regularly to build relationships with other schools, to allow their pupils to learn about other cultures and communities from a safe online platform. Obviously this isn't for everyone, which is why we offer the first couple of months free to allow you to sample it. We do however require a commitment to use the site from the schools. This comes in the form of an auto renewal subscription. If you try and and don't like it simply email to cancel. If you sign up on a whim and completely forget about it then you will be charged. We try to be fair though and do send an email reminder 2 weeks before the payment becomes due to give schools a last chance to try it and decide whether to cancel or not, as you did. I think this is fair and reasonable, anybody who doesn't simply has the choice not to sign up in the first place.

Big Classroom is a scam

Big Classroom is a scam! Don’t sign up to it! Don’t support sub standard businesses like this one! If OFSTED graded them it would be all 4’s across the board!

We signed up and realised how poor the product was. Save your time and buy a reputable product from a reputable business.

I like it how they say 10,000 schools have had free trials, they don’t say how many schools are using them currently, how many schools have cancelled the big classroom, how many schools say it’s bad value for money. It’s like a rubbish version of Facebook for schools.

Funnily enough bigclassrooms - thanks once again your brilliant at lying. How did I in previous reviews say I logged in, had a look and left because it was poo! Yet you say I haven’t logged in? How can I log in view it like a rubbish version of Facebook and leave - then say I didn’t view it! It’s comical

Response 2 - you are lying and you know it. I have logged in and also shared email addresses with people in the establishment. How can you check the system when you don’t know my email address or school? Like eveyother person I have never received a reminder, although you claim to have proof, which when you read it that doesn’t show it was delivered (good one!) I have cancelled membership but like lots of others on here we looked, saw it’s poo and forgot about it - that’s how unmemorable your product is! Ironically you say you send the reminder 2 weeks before the membership is expired - isn’t it two weeks or a thirty day cancellation notice?

Response 3 - from response 2. Strange how you claim I have never logged on - despite the fact I know it’s like a poor version of Facebook? Interesting how you claim I haven’t logged in, but I know how bad the product is, and can tell you the layout of the website. I am glad you have found out who I am, I’m glad you can see that I am making other people of your substandard product - I did tell Lee I would. You have tried to report my negative reviews to trust pilot in order to suppress my comments - unfortunately I have the evidence - which is why they are still online.
I would hardly call it a dispute, I got stung by your little scam, I held my hands up for the cancellation period, school paid because it’s cheaper then taking it to court, day after it’s paid - cancelled in writing and I told you I refuse to use the product, because of how bad it is. Do you want me to publish the emails?

This is the 3rd time you have reviewed our product on Trustpilot yet you never (not even once) logged in, so you are not in any way qualified to comment on how good our product is. I am equally qualified to comment on the standards in your school. Having never attended, however, I wouldn't dream of doing so.
We currently have just under 3,000 schools with live memberships with over 6,600 users. We have many schools who have been members for 5 years now.

In response to your edit - I don't know why you said that Mr Hives, all i know is that having checked our system, you never used your log in details. But, if you did look at it and decided it wasn't not suitable, why didn't you cancel your membership? It seems more likely that you signed up, forgot about it, ignored our reminder and got angry when you received our invoice. You're not prepared to take responsibility for your actions and think we should stand the cost of your actions.

Reply to Response 2 - I don't know what you mean by having shared email addresses with people in the establishment. I am able to check the system because your name (which is not common) is on your review and your first review was at the time we were in dispute with you, so it is fairly obvious who you are. I would be happy to name the school with your permission. You joined on the 21st May 2019 and registered yourself and 3 colleagues. None of you at any point have logged into the website with the login details you were sent from our servers. We did send a reminder email, but it is your responsibility to cancel the membership not ours and you knew this. I don't know what you mean about a 30 days cancellation notice, we have never stated this. Our T&C's state 7 days, although we accept cancellation notice right up to the renewal date.

Reply to response 3 - I don't think you do know the layout of our site because it is not remotely like Facebook. They are both social networks and that is where the similarity ends. I really don't understand what you think the scam is. You admit to signing up and forgetting to cancel. You think it is a scam because we enforced the contract you signed up to. I'm not sure what emails you are referring to, but you're welcome to publish any emails from us, we are not trying to hide anything.

Same experience again, during a pandemic as well. Do TES know about this company? Do we need to warn more schools?

Has anyone ever been chased further for payment?

Please see forums on TES, Twitter and teacher Facebook groups. Complaints everywhere. Local authorities are now aware of this company and therefore head teachers will be warned through the red bag newsletter.

Please contact the gov. on 0808 223 1133 if you had had dealings with this company and felt unhappy with their service. The trading standards are keeping a record.

Dear Jenny, I'm sorry you feel this way, however i'd like to point out that you registered with us way back in January, over 2 months before we entered lock down.
Unfortunately, we've had to take 3 schools to court in the last 18 months, which is a tiny percentage of the approx 10,000 schools we've given free trials to. I believe all 3 have left reviews on here detailing their experience. They all lost the case as our evidence showed they all registered with full knowledge of the cost and cancellation requirements. We would love help to help you use the service you requested from us to ensure you get full value for money.

However, if your issue is that your school signed up for our subscription without reading what you signed up for then i cannot help you. Our registration process is very clear and you will have been told 4 times in writing about the cost and auto renewal, including a reminder email just before renewal. To me it seems unethical that you accuse us of being scammers because you aren't prepared to take responsibility for your actions. We would be happy to help your staff use our service to ensure you get full value for money.

HOW ARE THESE COWBOYS STILL OPERATING?!

It's actually zero stars but there is no option. Another school who has been stung by this very clever company who has the law on their side when it comes to subscriptions. It's not worth the battle in the small claims court and you know it! Don't worry, I've posted on every review site for headteachers and primary leaders naming you and will continue to do so including local authorities. There wasn't ONE positive comment about your company. It's actually horrifying how many schools you've done the same to with exactly the same experience as me. It's appalling how you're robbing public money from schools. People please read the reviews first! Same old...read the pathetic response. What a shame that reputation speaks volumes! I would be interested to see if you are still in business in the future...

Appalling service

Appalling service! I would rather stick pins in my eyes and use their product!

I have written about this company previously unfortunately, their unethical approach to business. When you write a review on them and The Big Classroom doesn’t like it, then they try and have your review taken down!!! Comical!

I would avoid this company like the plague. Read the reviews! It says it all. Yes I had been stung by them. Yes they comment on every post saying you could have cancelled it , why sign up if your not going to use it? What the TBC is about is not letting you see anything so you have to take the free trial, then boom stuck with a bill for £360.

Lee claims that they are a family run business - I have never said this before but I hope they go bankrupt and protect education with their below substandard product!!! When you tell them how poor their product is and look at they reviews. Lee did a search on my school to say ‘well your school has negative reviews too’! How childish and pathetic

You signed up for our service and then never looked at it. There was no boom you were stuck with a bill, you had over 2 months to look at it and cancel. We sent you a reminder 2 weeks before we sent the invoice. This was the 4th time we told you in writing about the cost and auto renewal so it shouldn't have been a shock to you. Schools that use the service get value for money. Schools that sign up and then forget all about it waste their resources.

We got caught out too!

Yes we are another school which got caught out because a member of staff signed up for the free trial!

This company must spend most of it's time chasing invoices and responding to reviews on Trust Pilot. Whilst it may be a legal way to operate, they do not operate in an ethical and sector appropriate manner. If they had a genuinely good product they would be spending their time researching schools needs and how to market to schools.

As many have said before me, they are taking public money by duping school staff.

They also had the audacity to use COVID19 as a tool in 'chasing' their invoice suggesting we should have paid them promptly due to them being a family run company and therefore criticizing our practices.

Keep sharing your experiences amongst colleagues to ensure this company is squeezed out of the market and stops taking public money from schools.

We are sorry you feel this way, but if your colleague/school had used our product you could easily get good value for money or could have decided to cancel with a simple email at any point during the 2 month free trial. We really can't make it any clearer that there is a cost at the end of the trial period, we even send a reminder two weeks before the end of the trial, there is no duping involved. Why was this resource not used after going to the trouble of registering? This is why the subscription auto renews at a cost, so that people don't just register without thinking. It is a very common business model.
Regarding COVID, we were simply asking for a response from the school as these are difficult times for everyone and we are trying (as everyone is) to continue paying our staff during these difficult times.

Big Classroom sent an email to my…

Big Classroom sent an email to my school's admin address and I signed up for a free trial. A reminder to inform me that the 3 month free trial was up was sent to me but this went to my junk email so I never read it. An invoice then turned up for £300 for unpaid membership fees. When I phoned to query this, I was told that "we were only doing what you requested". I felt that the way in which this was done was - whilst technically legal - underhand and immoral. I suggest avoiding this website at all costs. Just look at the reviews and trustpilot.com rating.

Do not sign up!

As all the other reviews have said this company are ripping off schools with the same scam. Signed up for a free trial, the reminder the free trial ending reminder from a different email address went into the junk folder. We received a bill for something that was never used. DO NOT SIGN UP!

All our emails come from email addresses ending @bigclassroom.co.uk. I would be happy to send you a copy of the email with a delivery receipt. We make it really clear when you sign up that you are liable if you don't cancel because we want to discourage people from joining and then never using. We would be very happy to help your staff use the site to ensure you get good value for money but it is your responsibility to use it.

Read the reviews and AVOID this company. We can't all be wrong.

This company, whereas legally are doing nothing wrong, are rinsing the government of money. Every school that subscribes to a free trial and does not cancel after 2 months, even though they have never logged in, are charged £300. They claim that they send emails two weeks prior but I, like many many others, have not received this. Now we are left having to pay for a resource that we do not use, costing our school £300 and depriving our children of valuable resources. The website itself be for logging in is, at best, average with limited information. It doesn't even have schools listed that take part, nor any positive reviews. That in itself is enough warning. Hoping the DFE and/or Watchdog can do something about this company and its policies.

An additional mention is that their responses to these reviews and email correspondence are unprofessional and emotive which is another reason why they come across as a dodgy company.

We ensure that every new member is informed in writing on at least 4 occasions what the cost is and that the membership automatically renews. It is made very clear during the registration process. Providing the service costs us money so we don't want people to register if they are not going to use it. That is why it is an automatic renewal, in the hope that this will ensure users take it seriously. If you log in to our site you can see thousands of reports from schools that are using the site.
We would be happy to help your staff get up and running on the site to ensure you get full value from your subscription.

Avoid, avoid, avoid

A member of our SLT was contacted by this company offering free trial. We ended up never using their service, and have not to this date. We then received an invoice from them and when this was queried was told we had received several reminders and had to pay before being taken to court. Having spoken to several other schools locally we found the same thing had happened to them. On further investigation, it would appear that this company uses several different email addresses when sending out reminders, and as such these end up in the junk mail/spam filter, never to be read or received by the school.
Appalling tactics, and from the other reviews here it is clear they are taking thousands and thousands of pounds from the education sector across the country at a time when schools can least afford it.

It is a shame that nobody in your school ever used the service we provided, but this is why we put the onus on the schools to cancel as we don't want schools to register if they are not going to use it. Not a good experience at all

Not a good experience at all.

We agree that we signed up for a free trial but emails sent to tell us we had to pay after the 2 month trial came from differing email addresses at Big Classroom and often ended up in the junk mail box. We queried the invoice that was sent charging us for a subscription and were basically told we had no reason to not pay.

We had never accessed the online resources on offer - we never even used the password they initially gave us - not even to change it.

Better communication would help your reputation - perhaps even a courtesy phone call as the 2 month trial comes to an end. We will be cancelling our "subscription" immediately.

We feel that at at time when school budgets are getting tighter a little common courtesy from this particular provider would not go amiss. Perhaps you could take this as constructive criticism.

Thank you for your feedback. You stated you have never accessed our website and this is exactly why we put the onus on schools to cancel. We don't want schools to sign up if they are not going to use it as it is an expensive service to provide. All our emails come from the same email domain, all ending @bigclassroom.co.uk, they all clearly state they are from us and we have provided delivery receipts to prove this. We are an online company and your school registered after receiving an email from us, therefore an email reminder seems an appropriate way to remind the school of the impending renewal. We do not have the resources to telephone every single school we work with. We would be very happy to help your school use the site to ensure you get good value. If you look on the website you will see many examples of schools doing great things together.
