Bought a gift subscription for my niece in April. I found the website quite difficult to navigate when buying a gift subscription. When I purchased the subscription it asked for the intended delivery address of the recipient. I was also sent an email with a gift certificate which had minimal details on it to tell my niece how to claim her subscription.
I then contacted books that matter via email to commence the subscription on the morning of the 11th May but did not receive a response until the 13th May.
I had to respond with the delivery details which were originally sent in the order.
It it now the 26th May and my niece has still has not received her subscription box.
Attempted to speak to books that matter via their website on chat but you do not get an instant response and have to wait for a reply.

Utterly disappointed with the gift subscription due to the delay and the effort you have to go through to commence the subscription.

Books that matter serious need to look into their processes for gift subscriptions

Let's hope once the box finally comes if it ever does that it was worth the wait and hassle.

I’ve been ordering BTM boxes since November 2020 when a member of my book club recommended it.

The boxes are a real treat in the post every month, with great books and good quality gifts; some I keep for myself and some I re-gift.

I’ve never had an issue with delivery and everything arrives on time and safe.

Plus it’s always nice to support a small woman-led business

Been an on-and-off subscriber since november 2019, and most boxes have been great.
Positive points: friendly, down-to-earth community, a good emphasis on feminism, (usually) fairly newly published books and beautiful artwork. You can tell the BTM team really take the time to bring the boxes/themes together.
Points that could use improvement: it feels like there are a LOT of postcards/artprints/motivational prints included which I never use or have a need for. Sometimes it feels like young adults are their target audience, and as I'm 32 it can feel like a complete mismatch at times. But overall I enjoy the boxes and reading material, so do give it a go!

This book box is the most perfect subscription service ever. I can't believe I only found out about it this year, but I am SO grateful that I did. I've signed up for a rolling subscription and I know that the day the box comes will be one of the highlights of the month for me.

Each box comes with a book (or sometimes two) and a selection of carefully curated items to go with the themes of the book. They really are beautiful and allow for a true moment of self care.

Their sister company is also brilliant for anyone with little feminists at home. My daughter is signed up to the Brave Girls Book Club and adores it. We bought her one as a present and since then she has been using her own money to buy it every month. The books are thought-provoking and the booklet that comes with them helps have an open discussion with your child about the book included.

For a little while I was just purchasing the books that they had included separately, for both me and my daughter as I was a little concerned about feeling like I was getting value for money from the subscriptions, at the end of the day it is £40 a month for us both to get a new book. But the boxes are really wonderful and feel so special. My daughter now has a wall dedicated to Brave Girls art, and it is so beautiful!

You can tell how much thought and love goes into the boxes. I'd love for them to come up with something similar for boys so that my son isn't left out! (though he has actually read the book from the February BGBC!)

I received my first box a few days ago and cannot find the words to accurately explain how disappointed I am.
Firstly I had been waiting eagerly for the box which arrived very late according to all sources. Next I feel the items described as ‘goodies’ are simply samples you’d expect to receive as freebies anyway...come on tampons aren’t exactly an item I consider a treat! The book itself is something I’d probably have purchased as I already own some of the authors other work but it’s on sale for around £10 currently which, as the box cost £20, essentially means I’ve paid an extra £10 for a few tampons, a measly bag of malteasers, a tea towel which looks like the design will wash off instantly and a few postcards?!
I don’t have a massive disposable income so I feel affronted that I’ve wasted my money on what is a substandard box compared to the expectations raised on their social media and webpage. I feel this is such a shame as the concept for these boxes is fabulous. I have also yet to hear a response to my dissatisfaction. Please avoid if you don’t want to be ripped off.

I love my subscription! I love getting books that I wouldn’t normally come across and have read and loved all of them. It’s also great to learn about and support small businesses and I’ve gone on to purchase additional products from some of the suppliers. I also think the book boxes are really great value for money. Highly recommend!

Editing an earlier negative review to compliment the incredible customer service I received when Hermes failed to deliver my March box.

Hannah added an additional month to my subscription AND sent a replacement March box when she found one leftover! I'm still enjoying the lovely treats and am buzzin for my next box!

If I could not leave any stars, I would. First time ordering from this site. Ordered an item as a birthday gift on 26th February and STILL waiting for it to be dispatched. Emailed customer services to complain after having waited over a week to see if it would show up, no response until 4 days later. Poor.
They claimed to be chasing this up with their distributor so I waited a few days expecting an update - didn’t get one. I then emailed again and I am still waiting. I’m now ready to contact American Express to dispute this transaction. And the worst thing is my friend is the one that hasn’t received her birthday gift and has missed out. Terrible, I will never use this website again.

Love receiving my box each month - great little gifts but more importantly a different, interesting and thought-provoking book to get stuck into. Highly recommend.

I had been eyeing BTM subscription box for a while and at the beginning of 2021 I decided to treat myself to a yearly subscription. Let me assure you I am really glad I made that decision.

The BTM box is really amazing. So far, I have absolutely adored all the boxes. Even though only one has gotten to me due to covid and brexit and the fact that I do not live in the UK, I am thrilled with the February and March boxes’ contents as well.
I was delighted when my box came in the mail and it was such a happy experience unpacking it and see the effort and care put into creating the experience. Not only do I find the book choices really tasteful, the boxes are also put together with a lot of thought and care. I adore the color schemes and the theme coordination that each box has, and I really appreciate the effort that goes into putting together each of this box for us.

With this box you get support women owned businesses - BTM itself, and all the other small businesses featured in their boxes monthly. You also will get to know new authors, new artists, new businesses from the contents of the boxes, which I have found to only enhance my experience even more.

I also would like to leave a word of appreciation for the customer service from the team, namely Hannah, who was relentless in answering my questions and assuring me my box would arrive when brexit related issues delayed it. Moreover, when my box got stuck at customs, the team made sure to take note to work with their suppliers so that this situation could be prevented in the future. I really appreciated all the help and support.

BTM is an amazing business, the boxes are really really really good and I recommend them to everyone. They are incredibly tasteful and put together with thought and care and I urge anyone who is considering to try and see for themselves. If you are anything like me, you will not regret it.

Amazing subscription box, I couldn’t see myself without it ever!
I bought a 3 month subscription in September and followed up with a whole year when that ran out!
The box always contains an interesting book that inspires and educates me, along with several beautiful gifts. All the gifts are vegan & cruelty free which is a must for me so I’m grateful they’re an inclusive company with great morals, an excellent product and a fun community.

I joined as I wanted to read some different books to what I'd normally pick out and also because I absolutely deserve a lovely gift each month. Totally not disappointed. The book comes in beautiful gift box full of interesting things alongside the actual book. Very happy and can't wait for my next box to arrive

I’ve been subscribed to Books That Matter for 6 months now and every penny has been worth it. I love receiving my box every month and have enjoyed every book I’ve received in the boxes so far. Also the little extras and gifts have all been so lovely. Some books I likely wouldn’t be drawn to on my own and I love discovering new authors, stories & perspectives. Also the customer service team were super helpful and speedy in replying. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Honestly this idea is genius & so so well executed! The products and themes are so beautifully executed - who wouldn’t love supporting female led businesses, authors, creatives & more! Such swift & friendly customer service from Hannah as well when I had a few queries! Look forward to renewing my subscription for a very long time😍

A 6 month subscription was bought me for me as a gift and I dread it’s arrival. The books are really awful, and the extra products are not really extra products, a bookmark, a sticker, a single tea bag? Might be good for teenagers but it’s laughable for anyone over 20.
