Landed 11.30 pm recently from a flight from Alicante.
No Trolleys available pouring with rain car park paths full of deep water had to drag cases over rough ground to get to row M which is located on the far side of the carpark got soaked. People were tripping up as lighting is very poor. Needs updating. Not cheap either Gatwick is cheaper.
They are horrible
They are horrible. Used to be good but now. Over book their car parks. Security checks are horrible. Obsolite scanners. They literally drag your stuff out you bag and throw it around in a cheeky manners.
POOR GROUND HANDLING
Flew with Ryanair to Faro departing 0810hrs, arrived 0640hrs, joined long queue to drop luggage at check in desks. Four flights departing within a couple of hours airport could not deal with the volume of passengers. There were two Ryanair check in desks open, one for Faro and the other for Palma but all the passengers were mixed up in the one long queue. No tannoy information or ground staff directing passengers. Wasted 30 minutes queuing to drop baggage, the Faro desk was fairly light in terms of passengers due to most stuck in the long queue. Took 45 minutes to get through security due to passenger numbers. No time left to make any purchase or use facilities. Information board incorrectly stated Faro boarding at gate 6 when in fact it was gate 5. When boarding passengers were waiting out on the concourse in the wind and rain. Some of us held back to avoid getting drenched and remained under cover until the queues reduced. Unfortunately the ground staff were ushering us out to stand in the driving rain so we all ended up getting soaked before boarding. Quite shocking that Bournemouth airport has no temporary walkways to protect passengers from bad weather. All passengers would have got soaked. Not a great way to start a trip
gone downhill
Have travelled from bournemouth airport many times , however my recent experience was by far the worst. Booked parking in car park 2 was quick to get in however only spaces were a long way from the airport with very long grass and on return to a rainy bournemouth was greeted with wet trousers from the grass and total darkness had to use my phone to see and all for a hike in prices this year as well.Arrived at terminal to find queueing for check in outside the front of the terminal . Finally checked in and had about 500 - 600 people all trying to get through security as there were 4 flights in a short space of time. queued in the zig zag line for security for an hour got near the front only for the barriers to be moved so an earlier flight than ours could get through security ahead of us , about a 100 people in total just pushed in , not their fault but the airport is just not geared up for all the flights it has. Through to departure lounge at last not many seats available so spent my time outside in the smoking area where i could sit down. This used to be a great airport stress free but things have all changed , it needs twice as many security staff and scanners or less flights . Next year will be even worse as ryan air and tui are both going to have an extra plane in attendance . The 1 star is for the check in staff who work hard and i give the airport a zero . Come on bournemouth get your act together and have the customer come first instead of last on your agenda
Poor experience at Bournemouth Airport
We live in Poole and so thought we'd try Bournemouth Airport for the first time despite the fact there are no airport buses. I've lived in Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Nottingham and there have ALWAYS been airport buses but you either have to drive to and park at Bournemouth (very expensive) or get a taxi. (We paid £37 for a 7 minute journey. This was by far the cheapest quote.)
We waited over one hour just to drop our bags. Our's was the only plane going out at that point but they only had 2 desks open. Going through Security was fine however; very quick and easy. Then we discovered our plane was delayed by 30 minutes although this ended up being much, much longer. The restaurant/bar is overly expensive and there is only one shop, WH Smith. The seats in the restaurant were badly stained and the whole place looked dingy. Duty Free looked OK but as we were going to Tenerife, we didn't need to buy alcohol. There had been a few delays to other flights and many people had been there most of the day. Unfortunately the high bar prices didn't appear to have deterred some passengers and there were a couple of groups of very noisy, very drunk people. As the airport is small, there was nowhere to escape the rowdyism and no attempt was made by staff to quieten them down.
We eventually got called to board our flight but once all passengers were on the plane, we sat and waited for well over an hour before we took off. There was no explanation given but as I don't believe there were any other flights leaving at that time, it surely cannot have been that we were waiting for a take off slot.
However, it was the homeward journey that really took the biscuit. After a two hour delay we were diverted to Gatwick and then, after a four hour flight, had a further two hour wait for coaches to bring us home. The reason for the diversion, we have subsequently discovered, is because Bournemouth's air traffic control closes at 1.30am and, therefore, no flights can land after that time. You could say this is not the fault of the airport but the travel operator, in this case TUI, for not making this clear, but according to our taxi driver, it is an almost weekly occurance.
So, if your return flight is an evening one, beware and be prepared for a lengthy travel time. We left our Tenerife hotel at 5.30pm and arrived home at 6.30am the following day. We felt as if we'd crossed the Atlantic and were suffering jet lag. I might consider Bournemouth again if the return is a morning one but not anything later.
Queued for 3 hours and ran on plane
You are nice and local for us. Half an hour away. We got there early as we have a toddler. We queued for an hour as the desks don’t open until 2 hours before flight. Where is that said? One cafe before checkin.
Checking in took 3 hours and to get through security. So when got through I wanted to change baby’s nappy and they said we have 2 minutes to board. So we had no food, no loo break as queuing whole time. WHSmith was furious as nobody was on their side spending money as security was taking so long. I hear this was due to lack of staff. So my toddler had snacks lunch and then nothing on flight suitable so snacks for dinner! No time
For anything essential. We weren’t taken to front as we had a baby, nothing.
We parked in their car park. Yes close but other side of a dark car park and hardly any spaces available. All uncovered. Low and behold when we landed late we were at back of queue as having to wait for buggy, we didn’t have a rain cover (our fault) so had to run in the dark in torrential rain. We got soaked but it didn’t help that we couldn’t see. The car park is so badly lit. The lightning did help, it was our only light. ANPR did work so that was okay. Otherwise Bournemouth you should be ashamed as to the contrast between your airport and Tenerife who have a section for families to go through, to skip queues at check in and security, a safe area to put baby in so you’re hands free if need to go through bags etc. if you’re travelling on own in Tenerife they do everything. At Bournemouth the contrast was so BIG as to the fact they don’t do anything, horrendous experience with little ones. No help at all. Landed at home midnight and nobody there to get us to front after our little one was really sick all over me, him and the seat, bags etc. Such a bad experience I wouldn’t fly with them again. So unorganised.
Great Airport Terrible Breakfast
I specifically chose a holiday based upon using Bournemouth Airport based upon its proximity to where I live and being a smaller airport less likely for issues.
On that point I would give it 5 stars. Sadly the only downside was an appalling breakfast from the 'Navigator'. It was lukewarm, with rubbery eggs and had clearly been cooked sometime before serving which is such a shame as that really let everyone else and the experience down.
Positive experience
I saw previous reviews regarding Bournemouth airport and I was a little worried about travelling from here especially as we were driving from the Midlands but I needn’t have been. We got to the airport early so had a coffee in the cafe, when our check in opened we were through to security within 5 minutes. Straight through security without any queues. We had a couple of drinks in the bar which had very friendly staff, was lovely and relaxing. Then our gate opened and we were straight onto the plane.
On our return we went straight through passport control and collected luggage within 10 minutes. Would use again.
Went on holiday from bournemouth…
Went on holiday from bournemouth airport this week.
Got to say the staff was brilliant, the young woman on check in were happy and polite, even if they had some aggressive people before us thinking they know everything (people these days) if only every company could be like that would make life a lot easier and better experiences.
Thank you to all the staff that helped me and my family.
Everything is slow and no communication
Rude, verbally aggressive Ground Staff
When boarding plane, the member of staff (female) checking boarding passes was extremely rude and aggressive. We were travelling from B’mouth to Dublin, Republic of Ireland which is part of the Common Travel Area. I handed my driving licence over as ID. This female then demanded a passport. My husband said that it was OK to travel on Driving Licence, she immediately became rude and verbally aggressive, chastising us for trying to tell her how to do her job and she was a manager, she called for security and refused to board myself and my husband!! I questioned why she was refusing to board me when I had produced a passport. I challenged her and she boarded me. Security spoke to my husband, said she wasn’t a manager, she was highly strung and we boarded. This individual should not be in a Customer facing position and needs some retraining or removing!!
More Border Force staff please!!
It's a tiny regional airport so you have to remember that, but having only 4 passport control booths / no machines and often only 2-3 staff on duty is just inadequate. We've used a few times and queuing over an hour to get through passport control coming home isn't uncommon sadly.
Complete Shambles!
Totally agree with the previous comments about incompetent rude staff, disorganisation, long queues and worst of all, lack of cleanliness! After waiting an hour to get through check-in and then security, despite our flight being the only departure all morning!) I was greeted by a filthy departure lounge (didn't see a single cleaning operative the entire time) with unemptied bins and disgusting toilets with no soap or loo paper (good job I always carry emergency supplies!). Don't think I shall be bothering with this place again. It's back to using Southampton for me!!
Dirty toilets
Arrived from Dublin Sunday night at 11pm. Ladies toilets were filthy and the men's were the same. Seems nobody had cleaned them for some time. Disgusting.
Terrible experience from Bournemouth…
Terrible experience from Bournemouth airport. Completely understaffed and disorganised. Rude staff. Nearly missed our flight due to disorganisation. Left passenger stood in the corridor for an hour because they put the wrong people on the wrong plane! It used to be the preferred airport for local people and never used to mind paying extra to fly from there. However, things have changed it’s not worth the extra money, even rip you off in the car park. You’re better off going from Southampton or Bristol or even Heathrow and get a better service.
Used to be good!
Everything is wrong with this airport!
Car parking at £5 just to drop off is a rip off, I used to think £3 was bad.
Once inside there is very very little to do. The shop was shut and the cafe although not extortionate, compared to airside is still pricey for what it is.
The luggage belt was broken - these things happen, but when you get off to a bad start it hardly puts you in the holiday mood. Speaking of moods, there was one make security officer who clearly does not enjoy his job. Surly, sullen, God forbid he smiled or exchanged conversation, he was just intent on making it a miserable experience. I think he was annoyed that after the metal detector, a frisk, use of the hand held scanner, another pat down & x ray of my flip flops he had to let me through.
Finally, the bar airside was charging £8.50 for a glass of wine or £7/8 a pint. Would really benefit from being a Wetherspoons, though not enough flights I’m sure for them.
Plenty of staff but they seem unprepared for a plane landing or taking off & as said before we were made to queue in the hot poly tunnel for a while for no reason.
Nice to have a local airport but not at the cost of being made to feel completely & utterly ripped off & that it’s cheaper to head elsewhere - avoid if possible & certainly take your own food & drink!
Security confiscated my credit card…
Security confiscated my credit card money clip because they said it was a multi tool. Not one blade or seated edge is on the clip yet a jobsworth Security woman confiscated it. Pathetic, provincial backward over priced airport
Praiseworthy ground staff
I returned from Alicante on 24th June. Whilst away, I developed some physical problems, which made walking extremely painful/difficult. I was dreading my walk from the plane to border control, but on disembarking, 3 ground staff saw that I was having problems and ushered me into a wheelchair, and transported me to the exit door. Embarrassing that a had to resort to this service, but in the circumstances, immensely grateful for their intervention. I wish to record my gratitude to the 2 young ladies who helped me, and another badly injured lady (the walking wounded).
On a general note, I enjoy using Bournemouth Airport. It is small/intimate and easy to move about. Yes, the restaurant is relatively expensive and a bit slow, but show me an airport restaurant that isn't.
Couldn't organise a p#+up in a brewery.
Couldn't organise a p#+up in a brewery.
Had us rush through departures only for us to stand outside for twenty plus minutes in the baking heat. Then another twenty minutes waiting for the luggage to be loaded. Clearly this airport can no longer cope with the volume of traffic coming through it. Don't even get me started on the car park.
What am absolute joke of an airport. Now been sat on the plane for 2 and a half hours. All because Bournemouth airport didn't have enough staff to load the baggage. W T F
