Consumer Reports is an independent, nonprofit member organization that works for truth, transparency, and fairness in the marketplace. Consumers Union was chartered on February 6, 1936, at a time when consumers had very few options to gauge the value, quality, or authenticity of goods and services. It was an era of unfettered advertising claims, rapid technological progress, and patchwork regulations. Since then, CR has remained true to its mission, testing and reviewing countless products to make sure they’re safe and worth your money. Through our advocacy, we’ve helped people save billions. And we’ve influenced some of the most critical issues of the marketplace: the dangers of smoking cigarettes and eating toxic foods, predatory practices of credit card companies, safety risks in cars, and more.

Still waiting for meter to be activated 7months on.
I’ve had my smart meter installed last June have been waiting to have it activated. After a lot of complaints actually got a date for it to be activated 5Th January by EDF engineer. Was told the engineer would be in touch half an hour before they would arrive, given from 1 to 5pm.
Got to 1pm just thought I’d check they were still coming ,I was told by Michelle he would be coming. Got to 3pm so I phoned again ,yes he’s definitely coming. So got to 4pm no show phoned again told someone would contact engineer heard nothing so I at 4.45 Michelle answered oh engineer won’t be coming.
This is appalling as he was supposed to take reading as I’m disabled. I should have been told earlier they weren’t coming and no apology! waste of time certainly very disappointed to be let down once again .

Vevor foldable shelf brackets 22x24
Vevor foldable shelf brackets 22x24
It’s a scam this item will not hold 500 lbs ( manufacturer rating) it also comes with the wrong size of bolts to assemble it, the bolt provided are to short making the use of locknuts useless what make’s the bracket dangerous.
The main fault on this device is the wrong measurement it is actually 2” shorter then advertised and on top of all vevor refused to take it back “ terrible customer service is a must…. Lol
Ironically they are the rip off
I signed up because I'm in the market for a new car. They blasted my phone number (and e-mail) apparently to every car dealer in the US. I got inundated with texts, phone calls, and e-mails.
Total sham CR Rec for Endurance…
Total sham CR Rec for Endurance Insurance
I trusted CR when selecting an extended maintenance insurance policy on my well maintained SUV, which cost $4,500/3 yrs coverage. What I’ve experienced is nothing shy of a total sham by the insurer, Endurance, which to my surprise, or no, CR is receiving a kick back for every recommendation they make. What’s objective about that? Goodbye CR. No more
No longer concerned with providing detailed safety information
I was looking up treadmill reviews related to safety and when there were less than 5 stars, there was no information given about why the rating was less than 5, only a general description of the category and a list of things that it could contribute to a lower rating for any treadmill. Since there are so many reasons a machine can be unsafe, having no description renders the category meaningless. Out of curiosity, I then looked at SUV ratings and also discovered that they also no longer include detailed safety information about vehicles. If they don't care about vehicle safety, then they likely don't care about safety on the whole, so I cancelled my subscription today.
Addendum: I had also chatted with a rep on their site about the concern of no detailed safety explanation for the treadmills and he said that this was due to my not having a digital membership. I then logged onto my account and it showed I have an All Access membership - this includes digital and print. By this time, the chat had ended, but the chat rep had lied to me. I called Consumer Reports and spoke to another rep live who verified I have full digital access, and who also could not locate any additional safety information for any treadmills that received a rating of less than 5 stars. I then showed him a page that was related to car safety and the absence of detailed info listed. I ultimately told him I wanted to cancel my membership and he said, "Fine," apparently disinterested in my concerns about the absence of detailed safety information. Had I been in his role, I would have offered to pass along this concern to someone higher up.
This company needs to be shutdown
This company needs to be shutdown! Spamming people globally, breaching GPDR, spoofing their address for each promotion, never signed up for them, never heard of them!
Horrible ratings interface.
I just rejoined to read ratings on ranges and I am amazed at how poor the ratings area has been redesigned. Did no one user test this UI?? In order to scroll right to see the rest of the tests you have to scroll back up to the top of the list, move the slider right and then scroll back down to the item of interest...and back up if you want to scroll again...back down...etc. I tried to print it to PDF to see how that worked and lo and behold, that was horrible as well. EXTREMELY disappointed.
I have been a subscriber for many years…
I have been a subscriber for many years but more and more I have very disappointed in my purchases based on their ratings. Most recently I bought a toaster that was their 2023 highest recommended and nothing the review said was accurate. I bought another of the same unit and same result. Internet research shows that my findings were experienced by a significant population. I can no longer depend on CR research.
I joined in hopes of getting some…good, honest reviews
I joined in hopes of getting some reviews on a few products that I was in need of. Honestly, they had a few comments on different coffee makers. I thought that they would have many reviews for products, no. I also was interested in getting some reviews for a dog bark collar, there were none. Even refrigerators, there weren't enough reviews on the few fridges that were listed. Don't waste your money.
There reviews are always WRONG
There reviews are always WRONG. Bought a Harry's Razor because they had it the Best and safest out of 20 they tested. I haven't cut myself in 10 years. First time I used this piece of trash it cut my chin the left a huge gash in the side of my face. Consumer reports reviews are as horrible as the dead magazine.
Unable to access account
I have not been able to access my online account now for many months. I sent them an email advising that I keep getting an error message that says this site is temporarily unavailable. I have tried on my phone and laptop and get the same results. They have never reached out to me or responded to my emails. I think 3 months of no access to a service I paid for is unfair.
They were worth it decades ago.
They were worth it decades ago.. joined again recently and reviewed what they had to offer. Not very good at all.😞 Looks like they really haven’t upgraded much to popular items these days. Couldn’t find basic things needed in these more tech days…couldn’t use anything they offered… couldn’t find any solar generators, etc… sad… because we really do need an independent company helping to buy things today…
Also… their app was very basic.. had very little on it… I’m very disappointed!! Definitely not worth the $59.00 plus tax! 😡
(And 10% discounts are nothing…. And can be obtained just by asking the company… so I don’t need to pay for this to get it)
Highway Robbery
As a member of 10+ years I recently decided to use their web service. I quickly found out that you have to pay the subscription price twice to get the magazine and web access.
I contacted them and they were rude so I cancelled. Honestly it wasn’t that big of a loss because the magazine content is usually 90% irrelevant to my needs/interests and other sites on the web provide similar services for free.
What really got me is that they were rude and made no attempt to hold onto a decade long customer.
CONSUMER REPORTS: AVOID. There are now MUCH better alternatives.
CONSUMER REPORTS:
I joined CR to research a particular product (robot window cleaners). Their search "results" weren't anything remotely related to 'robot window cleaners', so I tried to contact them (within their normal business hours, which, by the way, were different depending upon which Consumer Reports page on which I landed [!] by phone (got a busy signal) and by chat. "Contact Us by Chat" instructions were very clear; however, none of the "Contact Us by Chat" links were clickable.
NEVER AGAIN.
There are now several other "CR"-type websites that are better, and—more importantly—available for support questions.
It's rare that I take the time to compose reviews; however, this case warranted my efforts. Hope it helps others.
I paid for a one-year membership to…
I paid for a one-year membership to this website. I didn't use it for a couple of months. Now when I want to use it, the website is down for over an hour. Unacceptable. I'm not renewing!
I would rather believe a product's manufacturer claims than CRs ratings.
I can't understand why they are misleading consumers like me. I tried several of their top recommended products, but later had terrible experiences with nearly all of them. In most of the cases, CRs ratings are not matching the basic features and parts of products. It means CRs doesn't physically touch many of these products before giving them ratings. Based on CRs rating, I ordered a dehumidifier, wifi-extender, router, modem, monitor, and many other products. They didn't have several features and even parts that I had seen on CRs. Later, I locked myself into a contract in an awful cell phone plan, which is still on the top of the list of CRs. It’s still being recommended by CRs.
Meanwhile, they also rate products that aren't yet out on the market or just came out to the Market. It clearly shows that they are literally fortune tellers. Their ratings are only based on their guesses. They do not do any professional experiments and testing. Otherwise, how is it possible to rate products that aren't out or just came out?
More importantly, they don't archive their ratings. It means that if products became so notorious like the display, wifi-extender, router, and dehumidifier I ordered, they would simply delete that list or edit it.
CRs should be ashamed of what they have been doing. They not only help consumers but also mislead them. It costs consumers like me hundreds or even thousands of dollars. It’s my last year that I pay for their very useless subscription. I would rather believe a product's manufacturer claims than CRs ratings.
If my subscription still had another year, why did you withdraw money from my account?
I began my subscription with Consumer Reports approximately 11 months ago. A few months into my subscription, I received an email from Consumer Reports, stating that I would receive a discount, if I would renew for an additional year, which I did. To me, that means that I now have the remainder of a two year balance on my subscription. However, after the end of my original year, my checking account was deducted by Consumer Reports for yet, another year. When I called to inquire about this withdraw from my account, the representative, who only chose to talk over me, rather than listening, stated that I now had 12 months remaining on my subscription. At this point, I should now have had the balance of two additional years. Ultimately, due to these seemingly wrongful business practices, culminated by the rude customer service agent, I chose to cancel my subscription.
I know that the information provided by Consumer Reports, concerning many different products, has real value, but I cannot tolerate seemingly bad business practices, nor bad customer service.
"Thank you for you membership... all we want now is you to pay more"
I subscribed to consumer report in the hope to access relevant informant, and contribute to an independent source of information.
Instead, most of the many email I received from CR was spam to have me pay more. This was really too much and today I hate CR for that.
I cancelled my membership, and hopefully one day I will have clicked "unsubscribe" enough times not to ever see a CR email anymore.
Impossible renewal process and awful web access
I'm sorry to say this organisation is awful.
The time came for me to renew.
I did this by following the link on their renewal email. Then, I got the message 403 error "This request could not be satisfied" - even on a mobile phone with no VPN and no Wi-Fi.
I tried the webform at cr.org - this was refused as I had no valid zip code. AMAZING - If you are not in the USA, they don't want you to contact them!
If I reply to the renewal demand email, I get a further email saying they do not respond to emails at this address.
I phoned the USA office - a friendly guy said I need to switch off VPN, I tried this and still got 403 error messages.
Also, I don't want to continue if I must switch off VPN every time I want to read a report.
I totally give up on this organisation.
