Great survey and support from Tim Platt. He solved my worries and problems and was very easy to talk to before and after the survey.

We knew we had a damp problem but weren’t sure what was exactly responsible for it. So I contacted the damp detectives by email, explaining my problem, and one of their detectives - Thomas Chow responded very speedily and asked for more details - which I sent him. He wrote back explaining my options for their services and offered a number of dates where he could come to the house to investigate. We’ve had people round before to look at our problem but they all spent some time and ultimately recommended the services that their company were selling*. I looked at the information that Thomas sent regarding how he would conduct his investigation, and making it clear that he and damp detectives are entirely independent, and I booked him. Thomas was great - he spent 4 or 5 concentrated hours at the house with all his equipment and tools. He fed back a few findings as he went, and then he left and wrote a very detailed document which identified the 3 areas that were contributing to our damp which we received a few days after his visit. We were really impressed with Thomas‘ diligence and friendly nature, and his non intrusive methods and investigations. His report was so detailed and clear and we are acting upon its findings now. I highly recommend Thomas Chow. *I should add that about 4 years ago we had a very well known damp proofing company look at one of the first problems we had with damp and they surveyed the area and recommended their own damp proof system which we agreed for them to do. It cost over £5,000 and caused a lot of upheaval to the house, and we now know it was unneccesary - they misdiagnosed the problem. Had we booked Thomas Chow instead, we would have been directed to the actual issue and known where best to spend that money. We also would have caught our problem and dealt with it then, before it caused more damage.

In 2024, I paid for this service and undertook the repairs they indicated were responsible for the damp. However, these works have failed to rectify the issue.

Fantastic service. Jonathan was friendly and professional, conducting a thorough survey and making sure we understood the results fully before leaving. We are very grateful for the independent survey, providing us with evidence based results that we know we can trust.

I asked Damp Detectives, Darren to carry out a survey in my loft for any signs of damp. He was extremely helpful and came the next day. He carried out a full check and kindly removed any residual foam from my loft. He also supplied a follow up report with photos showing the levels of any damp in the loft. This gave me great peace of mind to know there were no major problem. And I was well within the accepted limit. Great Service.

What a survey should be. Comprehensive, detailed, practical. Jonathan was extremely helpful start to finish and happily spent time answering all questions.

The surveyor (Thomas) was timely, polite and an expert in his field. He located the sources of the damp with evidence/clear photographs - this was tremendously helpful

Testimonial for Robert Horne (Damp Detectives)
I engaged Robert Horne as an independent damp and mould specialist during a complex housing case affecting my family. Robert’s approach was exemplary from start to finish:
• Rigor & independence: He conducted a meticulous survey, took calibrated readings, traced moisture pathways, and obtained accredited laboratory analysis. His conclusions were anchored in data, not opinion.
• Clarity & usefulness: The final report was exceptionally clear — logical structure, annotated photos, quantified results, and practical, prioritised recommendations. It addressed cause, risk, and remedy in a way that non-specialists and decision-makers could immediately act on.
• Professionalism & communication: Robert kept me informed, explained technical issues in plain English, and followed up promptly. Where laboratory timelines were outside his control, he chased results and updated me transparently.
• Real-world impact: His evidence has been pivotal in unlocking action. Because the report was so robust, it withstood external scrutiny and helped drive a safer outcome for my family.

I recommend Robert without reservation to anyone who needs a truly independent, scientifically grounded assessment — particularly where health, safeguarding and accountability matter.

Ben Madani, London

Very happy with Bryony and the report, guidance and reassurance she provided. Thank you so much for answering all my questions Bryony and for the damp survey which is incredibly helpful.

I found Tim from Damp Detectives gave a very detailed explanation with photos so I could address the issues I needed to regarding the property after his report..it has really helped take the confusion out of things about where to begin to sort out the damp and mould problems.

Thomas was really helpful. He arrived on time, gave us a really thorough review of our house, took lots of useful pictures including getting up of the roof and gutters, and lots of readings. I'm really confident in his skills and that we've got to the bottom of the issue.

Thomas did a survey at my home to determine the cause of damp in my kitchen. He was extremely thorough and inspected other rooms, including the loft, to ensure the root cause was determined. He used measuring equipment and took photographs where necessary. Some outdoor photographs required the use of a telescopic pole which was very neat!
A very pleasant person who relayed the pertinent information clearly followed by a very detailed report.
Would definitely recommend

When I first spoke with scott on the phone he was very knowledgeable and very clear on the services and level of services offered .
When arriving at my home he was very friendly and professional and got on with finding the issues and clearly explained what was happening the report was provided very promptly
I would definitely recommend there services

Second time using this company, and same great service. Nigel was quick to reply to my enquiry and communication was good throughout the process. Both the survey and subsequent report were turned around quickly and the information provided was clear and easy to understand.

AVOID. If I took Bryony's advice, I could have spent over £10k on unnecessary work.

I requested a Damp Survey as I had moved into a property and found signs of water damage and wanted to find out if I had a current issue or historical.

Recommendations and findings included:
- Call a plumber: plumber declined to come out, as he felt bad charging me to fix a leak I couldnt see
- That the concrete kitchen floor was damp and I could either pay ~£5k for professionals, buy a dehumidifier for £900, or lift up the lino for a few months in a hot summer.
- the cable clips running up the building were misidentified as left over drainpipe fittings. Bryony said one of these could be causing damp on the internal wall
- the valley on the roof was identified as needing modification - one roofer came over and quoted £1600, another said it was fine
- rendering could be removed
- roofer said i could get chimneys capped, which Bryony suggested
- kitchen pipe was going into ground, which Bryony identified

I find services like this useful, as I dont know anything about buildings and maintenance of them, and I've experienced more than one cowboy builder, so I am very disappointed with this service, and suspicious of damp surveys now.

In addition to this, Bryony wasnt great at getting back to me and said she'd confirm a date, didnt, but showed up anyway. Not a massive deal, more impolite.

PRICE: £450

Scott was fantastic, came out very quickly, did a thorough assessment and helped advise without pushing expensive solutions

Brilliant service
Scott was brilliant, booking in a damp survey at short notice, and providing hugely useful, expert advice. Would thoroughly recommend.

Jamie and Evie are life savers. I I had gone with the dpc company survey and hard sell I would still be having problems. The inspection and report were thorough and the findings have been passed to a builder and estate agent so we can sell at a fair price and/or remedy all issues identified

Tim from Damp Detectives visited my property and carried out a detailed and invaluable damp survey for me. The property had a number of damp issues in various rooms.
Tim set to work on each aspect of potential damp sources in the properties front room which was my main concern, as damp has been gradually getting worse over the previous months. Tim’s advice and solutions to rectify the problems was like a weight being lifted from me. he inspected each room of the property and found a number of damp causing issues I was unaware of , which he provided excellent and cost effective ways to proceed to resolve these problems.
I received a detailed report within 5 days with pictures. I cannot thank Tim enough and I would recommend Tim to anyone on the south coast who has a damp problem that needs resolving. Tim was punctual , friendly and knowledgeable and also called me after the survey to follow up on something that needed further investigation. The survey was the best money I have spent since I have owned the property as it gave me the answers I needed and I wish I had done this sooner.

Scott is clearly very knowledgeable and he gave me a detailed email of how to fix the source of the damp. Glad I got an expert in rather then keep assuming where the source of damp is.
