SO GOOD! Funky Tours made our short trip to Sarajevo and Mostar so memorable, and I came away with so much insight into Bosnia's culture, history and vibe. Our guide - Samir - was an incredible fount of knowledge, and handled tricky questions about the country's politics and history with ease and honesty. He also has a great sene of dry humour! He was patient and cool-headed with grumpy tour-members, random storms, and road detours alike! Very much felt we were in safe hands all the way. We also never felt rushed between stops - we were a small group and so were able to set a pace that suited us. Highly, highly recommend both the half-day Siege tour, and the 1 day Four Cities tour down to Mostar (which we used as a transfer on to Croatia).

Funky Tours has a very friendly, helpful and efficient office staff too - responsive to last-minute scheduling, ready with useful suggestions, and they seem like a tight-knit and friendly organisation. Office is easy to find, on the edge of Old Town.

We booked about 7-10 days in advance, with no issues. I reckon you could probably pop in on the day and they would hook you up with something fun for the next day, but they also take bookings far in advance for those who are more organised than me :D

My wife and I recently returned from Funky Tours Best of the Balkans tour. It was a fascinating couple of weeks and overall an informative and enjoyable experience.

For most of the tour, our group consisted of nine well traveled people, ranging in age from mid-30s to early 70s. All of us were from either the US or Australia and the tour was conducted in English. A perk was that we were all prompt to show up at the appointed times and generally got along very well. Given the amount of time spent in a small bus and the general pace of the tour, that helped make it all work well. This tour is not a good replacement for a cruise. The hotels were all fine, in good neighborhoods and with good breakfasts, but there was little downtime, considerable walking required, and some very long days of travel. Aside from our first night in Ljubljana where we had booked an extra night, we never stayed at a hotel for more than two nights.

Communication with the Funky Tours office was excellent and the cost of the trip was very reasonable given the number of places we visited. Funky Tours provided airport transfers on both ends of the trip and paid entrance fees into the places we visited, with a couple of optional exceptions. The tour included a nice mix of city walking tours, national parks, site seeing and history lessons. All of the tour guides were excellent.

The best highlights of the trip include the Postojna Cave and Vintgar Gorge in Slovenia, Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia, many beautiful mountain vistas in Bosnia, Montenegro, and Albania, and the ancient coastal cities along the Adriatic. We also received several thorough tours in and around Sarajevo, perhaps the most interesting city of the tour. We now have a much better understanding of the very complicated history of this region as well as an appreciation of the natural beauty and cultural attractions. If you want to get a real sense of the region by being immersed among the people who live there, it's hard to imagine a better opportunity.

Everything from the start of the booking was seamless. Communication with Ajla was prompt and efficient, which made the entire planning process easy despite multiple back-and-forth emails.

I booked the Dubrovnik to Sarajevo transfer tour via Herzegovina and Mostar with Funky Tours. My guide, Faris, was enthusiastic and positive, with a strong knowledge of history that he shared clearly throughout the day. He also brought a great sense of humour, keeping the experience engaging and enjoyable. We met again the following day for the Sarajevo walking tour. Despite it being a free tour, he was highly professional and ensured the full two-hour itinerary was well covered.

Our driver during the Herzegovina tour, Sadin, handled the roads with confidence and skill, getting us to each destination safely and efficiently.

This tour was a really positive experience, the guide was extremely well prepared, he managed to keep the entire day interesting and answered all of our questions.
If you are interested in understanding what happened in Srebrenica and the historical context behind it I really recommend it.

I would also like to mention that the lunch with the local family was lovely, thank you so much!

Our Croatia Sailing Tour with Funky Tours was pure magic from start to finish. Skipper Mislav and Host Abi made every day feel like we were sailing with old friends — warm, fun, and incredibly genuine. Their easygoing hospitality and local knowledge made the experience unforgettable.

The itinerary was perfectly balanced, visiting beautiful harbors, charming coastal towns, and breathtaking National Parks. Every meal was a highlight — from delicious onboard meals to amazing dinners in local restaurants along the coast.

We did four tours with Funky Tours in Bosnia in September. Private transfers from Dubrovnik to Mostar and from Srajevo to Zagreb via Banja Luka over two days, and two small group day tours from Sarajevo to Srebrenica and Eastern Bosnia/Western Serbia. All the tours took us to beautiful and fascinating places well off the normal tourist itinerary and excellent local drivers and guides provided knowledgeable and empathetic insights into what we were seeing. We did the Funky Tours 12-Day Best of Balkans small group tour that visited Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, and Montenegro. The organization of the trip on the part of Funky Tours was wonderful - we visited many beautiful sites while learning about both the more recent and the past history of the region. Our tour guide, Ajla, has a terrific knowledge of the region and gave us great recommendations throughout the trip. It was my first time traveling with a small group tour, and the group got along very well and enjoyed the time together. One interesting thing for us was that some of the people on our tour were on the 16-day version that's also available, so some of the people had started before us and continued on for a few days after us. In terms of timing, the end of September-beginning of October time is a perfect time to visit the Balkans. The weather is still good, but the crowds have started to die down a bit.

We had a great 4 day boat trip from Tribunz with Funky Tours which was excellent. The boat was good, the staff brilliant and I would definitely recommend.

My experience on funky Tours

Best trip ever!!! Allen was an amazing captain attentive to everyone’s needs. Abi was a chef and guide extrodinarie! The trip was a great mix of history, small villages, both water and land based activities with a few shopping options thrown in.

The 4 day trip was so much fun. The captain and crew, Abi and Alem made every moment amazing with their knowledge of the area, activities that were planned ahead and our enjoyment always seemed to be at the forefront of their mind. We visited multiple places each day and there was always chances to swim or just chill out on the deck or on the chairs. I felt like I could ask them for anything at any time and there would be no problem about it. They took us to beautiful beaches, scenery and historical places which made a good mix of things to see and do. The provided breakfast and lunch were always served on time and were delicious, we had a chance to pick what we wanted for breakfast each day which was nice. They would recommend us places to eat for dinner and reserve them ahead for us (as well as the activities) and the restaurants were great. There was plenty of space on board, we were a group of 9 + the 1 member of crew and the captain and there was always somewhere to sit or lie down in the sun whilest we were docked or travelling. The whole trip was great and I had a lot of fun.

Great experience. Great food cooked by abi and good restaurant recommendations. Smooth driving by Alem and both crew members were fun and sociable. We even saw dolphins!!

What an amazing time! I don’t know where to begin…
First off, a huge thank you to Edna & Abdullah and Captain Tony (I think that was his name!)
Edna and Abdul were the most gracious hosts for our 4-day sojourn. They prepared fresh and delicious meals on board and always made sure that I had plenty of ICE for my drinks, as I had requested this pre-sail. This was so nice for me!! Just being on the Catamaran with full sails was exhilarating and sheer joy.
But let me tell you about the stops! Each one, a magical seaside hamlet, some with 1 or 2 restaurants. The side excursion to Krka Falls was breathtaking and not to be missed. I wish I could remember all the names of the little towns… They were so quaint with hardly any tourists. I thought late May was a PERFECT time to go because of the low tourism and the temps being only slightly cool. But in the sun?? You were plenty warm enough and I did get a stellar tan!! The sea water temps at this time were VERY BRISK, but it was also refreshing. If you’re on a paddle board or the massive inflatable Pink Flamingo, then you don’t get wet!
The Cat comfortably sleeps 8 ppl, 2 to a cabin. On our sail, we had myself and my friend each in our own cabin, and then a husband and wife with their 5-year old daughter in another cabin (3 bodies in one cabin!), the crew, and that’s it! At first, we were a little bummed-out about a child being on board (we like to drink wine and relax!), but thankfully, she was the SWEETEST, most well-behaved kid that I have ever met, so it actually made the sail more fun. She was seriously an angel, so we lucked out on that!
I would say that this type of adventure is very casual and low key. If you prefer fancy, bougie yacht-type stuff, or shopping and fine dining, then this wouldn’t be for you. (I might have worn the same coverup for 3 days straight! LOL) I never worried about my hair and I was completely makeup-free the whole time. The “fanciest” thing was when we pulled up alongside the oyster fisherman and he served them to us right out of the water! The “amenities” that you are paying for are: small passenger count, epic views, Adriatic winds, pristine waters, local culture and flavors, and great hospitality by the crew.
My personal highlights: Some of the stops with brilliant turquoise waters, the hike up the mountain at sunset, (Edna helped me reach the top; I didn’t think I could make it but I did!!) and just basically chilling on the Cat listening to tunes and making new lifelong friendships.
I honestly have nothing negative to review, only that we did the 4-day sail and not a 1 week sail… We were just starting to enjoy the routine and then it was over way too soon….
BUT! We have vowed to return to sail with Edna again!
I highly recommend Funky Tours and this gem of a sail.

I found Funky Tours by accident when I conducted a Google search for Balkan vacations. I was looking for a travel group that offered a tour of the former Yugoslavia, and they were the closest one I could find in a single trip. My husband and I selected the 16 day from Slovenia to Albania (with Croatia, Bosnia, and Montenegro included). Our guide and driver were excellent--extremely flexible and accessible and ensured all our desires were met. The accommodations for the entire trip were top notch, and the selected sites were a good combination of "off the beaten path" adventures and typical must-see or "tourist trap" sites. The prices were reasonable, the staff was knowledgeable (including the city guide tours in various locations) and a good balance of guided trips with free time. Highly recommend.
