Had to employ debt recovery company to recover refund
The vehicle was registered under my wife's name prior to its delivery. It was driven without a valid tax from Glasgow to Norwich and back, and I didn't observe any trade plates on it.
There was no payment receipt provided, and no terms or conditions were shared. Additionally, warranty information was lacking, leaving us unclear about its coverage, as it didn't resemble a standard warranty document.
This situation breached the 14-day consumer money-back guarantee. I was asked to remove reviews before receiving a refund and was requested to sign a contract to eliminate all reviews prior to the refund being processed.
After waiting four weeks, I engaged a debt recovery agency to pursue the owed amount. Ultimately, it took five weeks to receive the refund, which included the process of hiring the debt recovery company.

They advertise cars online when you get to the forecourt the price on them is thousands more expensive then tell you its different vehicles from what’s on the website and the vehicles advertised are sold, Funny not showing sold on website, also all number plates have been removed so unable to check MOT history on them BEWARE

Important costs not clearly disclosed in listing
I am unsure whether this stems froma lack of time and workload pressure or from the level of customer service; however, my experience raises significant concerns regarding the transparency of the sales process.
I requested access to the vehicle documentation, which was not provided over two days of email communication. During this time, I did not receive fully verifiable information necessary to make an informed purchasing decision. The information was provided verbally rather than supported by accessible documentation.
Additionally, upon closer review of the terms, mandatory costs emerged that were not clearly included in the advertised price. These include a warranty fee of £495 + VAT (£594) and an administration fee of £96 covering DVLA paperwork, tax setup, HPI report, and new registration plates. These costs significantly increase the total purchase price and were not clearly presented at the stage of the listing.
In practice, this means the final cost of the vehicle differs substantially from the advertised price, with full cost details becoming clear only during later stages of communication.
I am an experienced buyer and asked detailed questions regarding the transaction terms. In the further course of communication, I was not given the opportunity to proceed with the purchase, and the offer was no longer made available to me.
From my perspective, earlier access to other customer experiences would likely have saved time and avoided a two-day process that did not lead to a transparent or actionable purchase outcome.

Outstanding service
I purchased my beautiful Jaguar XJ from Hillington Motor Company after seeing their advert on Autotrader, where the company has an excellent rating.
The entire process with Scott, owner of Hillington Motor Company, from the initial viewing of the car to its collection was handled professionally. Although they could not accept my iPace as a part-exchange, Scott was very helpful in discussing other options available to me.
Every aspect of the sale was taken care of by Scott in a most professional manner. No sales talk. No pressure. I went back a second time to take the car for a test drive. Nothing was too much trouble for Scott. He arranged the transfer of my private registration plate, he arranged the warranty and breakdown cover and the road tax on my behalf. I was given the car’s full service history with MOT records and receipts. Complete transparency. I could not have asked for better service. The small admin fee was justified. I had total peace of mind and when I dropped my iPace off at WBAC (now THAT was a stressful experience!!!), Scott collected me in my beautiful freshly valeted XJ.
Fast forward two months and my car developed a problem resulting in an RAC callout. I took the car to a local RAC-approved workshop who estimated the repair at £5k and possibly not covered by the warranty. I was shocked and angry, also disappointed! When I discussed this with Scott he also was shocked at the diagnosis and estimated repair cost. He assured me time and again that the car did not require that repair. Long story short, my car was collected from my home by Joe from Hillington’s and taken to a highly reputable diesel specialist to be repaired under warranty,,,, at under £1k.
I truly cannot praise Hillington Motors enough. As a female pensioner, I am so thankful for all their help, their expertise and professionalism.

Terrible experience, avoid this place. Salesman who I suspect is the owner is aggressive and pushy.. His name.was Scort.
Never experienced an attitude like this when looking to buy a car. Some people are just not cut out to dealing with customers.
We walked away when I experienced his attitude, it's a shame as the cars looked clean and good but would have 0 faith in dealing with that man for aftercare and based on the other reviews the name Scott and his attitude comes up alot .

My Hillington Experience
Travelled a great distance to view a Volvo XC60 that, after discussion with Scott, was described as very good and worth the trip to see. His description of the vehicle was absolutely accurate, no misleading comments whatsoever. I was left to view the vehicle on my own without interruption and at my own pace. Any arising questions were answered properly and in full. My verbal exchanges with Scott were polite and informative. I decided to buy the car, choosing to collect it a week or so later. On my arrival to collect the car it was superbly presented with everything completed as promised. I have a most enjoyable and trouble free drive home. The only problem I had was maintaining my focus on the car I was buying. There were so many interesting cars on the forecourt, all superbly presented, that I could easily have been distracted!. I don't recognise some of the reviews written about Hillington on this site, my experience was the complete opposite. Well done Scott and Hillington Motors, that's how to present and sell second hand cars. I wish you all the best.......and thank you.

Just bought a BMW Z4 from Scott at Hillington motor company.
I called Scott late on on a Thursday evening just as he was leaving enquiring about the Z4. Scott went out of his way to send me a video of the car. Scott tried everything he could to get the car ready for me for Saturday but unfortunately this couldn't be achieved and was out of Scott's hands I, think I was being a little impatient!
I travelled the 3 hour journey up to Glasgow and was more than pleased with the car which was even better than described. Scott was extremely friendly and made the whole experience a pleasure. The communication was brilliant throughout the whole process. I would highly recommend this garage, and I'm quite a picky person but I could not fault the service, professionalism and honesty of this garage, a credit to the motor industry. It's always a big decision to buy a car, and you just hope your going to the right place and that everything will be OK . Thanks again Scott for making that decision the right one.

Avoid!!! On Sunday 22nd June, I went to view a Volvo v50 (YH12NTT) priced at £4995. I Delt was Scott who was great and I was more than happy with the car. I put a deposit on the car and signed the paperwork. Scott said the car should be ready for the following weekend. Monday I received an email with invoice again stating the car will be going for MOT on the Tuesday and should be ready for the weekend. on Thursday 26th June I Receive a phone call (NOT SCOTT) stating the car was advertised at the wrong price and the price is now £5995 and that I could either pay the extra £1000 or get my deposit back. Extremely disappointed how a "professional company" like this can advertise a car and after taking a deposit and signing paperwork they then add £1000.
I have received my deposit back from them. However Id strongly urge people to avoid this place and take your business elsewhere.

Extremely rude and unprofessional
Just went out and test drove a car with Scott, who was lovely, then when we were not sold on the car, his colleague told us to f*** off and shouted us out of the place. Would actually have happily returned as liked the look of other cars, but such angry behaviour at not agreeing with their price even having a perfectly nice conversation with Scott. Extremely unprofessional, uncomfortable environment for any sale.

Be very wary of this company
Should you consider to go to this dealer for a car be very mindful and ensure to:
1. Record all conversations
2. Make sure you have everything they advise or claim in writing.
3. Look at their complaints procedure and check the professional motor organisation they are affiliated too.
On the phone they make a lot of promises and seem a reasonable company.
I have have a disappointing experience with them so be very mindful indeed!.
TOTAL SCAMMERS…
I bought what I thought was a lovely BMW convertible. I was told it was a 1 owner car when it had 3 owners, had a full service history when it didn't and arrived at my door with several faults. I asked them for a full refund and they totally ignored my request. I then asked them to repair the faults and the car was returned to me with the faults still there and 4 days later the engine management light came on (again).
At this point I took the car to a BMW garage near my home. They checked the car from top to bottom and came up with a catalogue of faults a few of which were dangerous and 6 of which were MOT failures despite them giving me a brand new MOT certificate when I bought the car with no advisories.
It cost me almost £5000 to make the car roadworthy, and when I asked them to pay for this they became quite aggressive and told me to get myself a lawyer.
Please, please stay well clear of this company. They are total scammers. Just read all the trustpilot reviews and avoid them like the plague. There are loads of great garages in Glasgow, but these liars are certainly NOT one of them.

I would not even visit this garage emailed them through Autotrader about an expensive car saying it was at a higher price than a normal car model at that age using the Autotrader valuation system and are you willing to drop the price for a trade-in and paying upfront. Got an email back with the answer NO that's it. The sales team needs retraining in communication skills and sales.

Crooks. Chancers. Liars
Just do not deal with this company. They are completely dishonest and untrustworthy. Subject to trading standards investigations.
The list of issues I have is long. They do not comply with their legal requirement to effect repairs on faults (and I am talking 24hours after delivery). Seriously, don't give them your money. They are just crooks selling cars.
Hillinton seem to have large holes in their sales correspondence. I wonder why?
Here is an excerpt from just one email they ignored in 2023.

Dear Sir,
On 26/11/2022 I purchased a vehicle from your company. Since taking possession of the goods, I have had the following issues:
I continue to be unable to register the car correctly as the new V5C which you generated on the day of purchase didn’t show change of use, from a disabled vehicle to a standard diesel vehicle. When you changed ownership online it meant that the V5C you gave us was immediately invalid and therefore not acceptable for taxing in a different class. Where there is a change of use, any change of ownership has to be registered by the seller at a post office, not on line. This is where the problem has arisen according to DVLA senior case handler Gavin Stevens, whom I spoke to today. He is now finally in the position to issue a correct registration document. In the meantime, I have had to notify my insurance company and incurred an admin fee. I will incur another fee when I have to change the details again when the car is finally correctly registered.
The next issue is the failure of the battery within 48 hours of owning the car. As I understood it your vehicles are subjected to a multipoint check, including battery. I therefore can’t understand why the car left the showroom with a faulty battery. It certainly wouldn’t have started after any length of time on a forecourt.****
Seriously , do not buy from this company.

Use with caution -with luck you may get a car you like but it may cost a lot in money and emotional pain!
We do have a car we love that we bought from these guys but the advert was misleading stating full service history, fewer previous owners etc. We queried the service history issue when we saw the paperwork and were told that the main dealer (Mercedes) would have it all digitally and would share it when we owned the car. Not true, Mercedes have no history of servicing our car. When I wrote a review on Autotrader the response is emotionally unhinged, accusing me (falsely) of lying in several issues. They do have some unusual cars, which is appealing, but please do check all paperwork before you put down a deposit because it is legally tricky to get the deposit back unless you can prove something is wrong. We have now found that the air filter is clogged, which was claimed to have been changed in 3 months ago, it was probably changed when last serviced 4 years ago. They will get away with the minimum they can. We did find something didn't work before we paid the deposit and it was fixed properly before we picked the car up - so they can do things if they want (perhaps before you pay though). Be aware that they try to add an admin fee in - if they haven't told you of this in advance then refuse to pay it - harks back to the old days of dodgy dealerships.

My mum has bought a car there couple months ago. The day after the registration plate fell off... She went to a garage to have it re-fitted and to have the car inspected. They found a number of issues, we informed Hillington Motor Company about them but they didn't really care. They took the car back in and replaced the brake pads (brake pads were fitted incorrectly - it was one of the issues and the cheapest one to fix). And they put new MOT on it, but didn't fix any of the other issues. My mum took the car to another garage to have it fully inspected and to have inspection report produced. The list of issues was pretty long... Few of these being issues with injectors, shock absorbers, dual mass and a lot more. She then took it to third garage to be 100% sure that the other garages are not 'just making these issues up to make my mum pay for things that don't need fixing' (in Hillington Motor Company's words). They found the same issues and estimated costs of repairs around £2,000. My mum showed these reports to Hillington Motor Company and asked to either issue her a full refund and take the car back or to fix these issues, but they refused both of these options (even though all of that happened within 30 days of purchase). AVOID!!!
Avoid at all costs
If you’re going to buy a car, it would be a good idea to get it checked out by someone else firstly because there will more than likely be a huge fault in it that should be picked up on the mot they apparently put the car through. The staff will try to intimidate you if you do try raise any concerns with them. I’d save yourself the hassle and buy elsewhere!
