No meal served on intercontinental…
No meal served on intercontinental fliights? Not even a snack on a 6 hours flight? Are you serious? Is this even legal for a EU airline? Outrageous
DO NO BOOK ICELAND AIR - Bad experiences
The absolute best SCAMMERS and HUSTLERS of any airline by far. Please take heed and distance yourself VERY FAR from interacting with anyone at Iceland Airlines. I am convinced it is apart of their work culture to not take their guests and customers into consideration. I had the ABSOLUTE WORST experience. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT book with ICELAND AIR. I repeat, look after yourselves and DO NOT BOOK with ICELAND AIR, BY ALL MEANS! They will give you misinformation and will try at every level to discount what you experienced. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE. STAY AWAY FROM SCHEMING AIRLINES.
Was accused by Icelandair of human trafficking!!!!
Was accused by Icelandair flight attendants and Iceland police of human trafficking my girlfriend. Was taken to a jail cell in the airport and interrogated, was told if I wanted a lawyer it would be at my expense. Police eventually asked what happened on the flight and I told them the truth that I slept the whole way but the flight attendant in the jump seat directly in front of me accused me of abusing and trafficking my girlfriend while I was asleep. She had to have made this discriminatory assertion to police based off my gold jewelry and high fashion urban clothing because I slept the entire flight and had little to no interactions with anyone. Eventually I was released once they realized I did nothing wrong and my girlfriend and I were brought to our connecting fight just as it was about to take off. I was given no compensation and the event has left my girlfriend and I shaken and distrustful of ever flying through Iceland again even if it's just a connecting flight.
Icelandair is downfall of Iceland
Icelandair is downfall of Iceland
Frustrated by Icelandair’s rigidity and travel costs.
Just wrapping up a trip to Iceland from Canada.
The country itself is beautiful.
Reykjavik was great.
The landscapes were incredible.
I met some wonderful tourists, not locals
But honestly,
the travel side of the experience became surprisingly stressful.
I had a confirmed flight home from KEF to Toronto later in the evening.
An earlier flight appeared to have open seats,
so I asked about same-day standby or changing flights.
The answer was basically:
“No flexibility unless you pay a massive fare difference.”
I understand fare rules exist.
I understand airlines sell different ticket classes.
But the rigidity of the system felt excessive,
especially when flights appear to have availability. - I wanted to get on a half empty plane, confirmed by airport security
As a traveler,
it creates this strange feeling of being trapped.
Iceland is geographically isolated,
Icelandair
Add in:
* very high food costs,
* expensive transportation,
* premium pricing everywhere,
* and little flexibility
It’s more a warning to future travelers:
budget more than you think,
understand your airline fare restrictions carefully,
and know that changing flights may be extremely expensive even when seats appear available.
Fly in North America, many beautiful places on our side of the pond and much more pleasant people and airlines that you don’t mind giving your hard earned money too.
I’m still glad I came.
But I do think the tourism experience is becoming harder to justify financially unless you plan very carefully. Fiort Timon in France was back in 2010, been back 4 times since then. This is my first and last visit to Iceland
Had reservation to fly from New York to…
Had reservation to fly from New York to Reyjavik, one hour 25 min stopover, then fly from Reyjavik to Frankfurt. Have 3 hour stopover and then fly Frankfurt to Salzburg on another airline. Had rental car and hotel waiting in Salzburg.
When we made reservation we questioned if one hour 25 min layover in Iceland was adequate and was assured it was. Flight from New York took off over one hour late. Flight was advertised as taking 3 hours 28 minutes, but they changed it to 2 hours 48 minutes, making it that drinks would be served on the plane, but not food. (Food is only served in evonomy if flight is more than 3hours). Flight took 3 hours 5min.
We had been assured in New York that we would not have to go through passport check at Reyjavik and would go through it at Frankfort. We got to Reyjavik and had to go through passport check: line of over 200 people. We had to run completely across entire airport to catch next flight, which they agreed to hold for us. Everyone staring at us when we boarded. We then waited for others to late board. Flight took off one hour 20 minutes late, then after one hour in air, told something wrong with plane and had to turn back to Reyjavik. After almost three hour wait, put on new flight to Franfurt. We missed our connection to Salzburg, which was non-refundable and our rental car appointment (again non-refundable).Because we didn’t make the Frankfurt to Salzburg flight, our return flight was automatically cancelled, again non-refundable. Again, no food served on flight from Reyjavik to Frankfort, so we went all day with nothing to eat.
We had to rent car in Frankfurt and drive to Salzburg, six hour drive, arriving at our hotel at 2:30 AM, instead of the intended 6PM.
Total costs to get new rental car, lost flights, hotel late check in fee were over $2000. Iceland Air not responsible for those charges. “Our responsibility was to get you to Frankfurt and we did that”.
On our way home, flight from Frankfurt to Boston was cancelled due to plane malfunction. That’s two plane malfunctions in one trip. They re-scheduled us to the next day and put us up at a hotel 30 minutes from the airport. They told us later that day we would get e-mail telling us what time a bus would pick us up to take us back to the airport. Never got the e-mail. When I called customer service, they were closed and was instructed to use website. Explained on website we needed to know what time bus was coming and response was an e-mail stating they have 6 weeks to respond to our inquiry.
Later found out from hitel front desk that bus was coming at 9 AM. Never got the information directly from Iceland Air. We had to eat cost of our pre-reserved hotel in Boston, and pay over $1500 in fees to change our flight from Boston to home to the next day. Total out: over $2000.
So delays and cancellations by Iceland Air resulted in us going one whole day with nothing to eat, having to drive sux hours from Frankfurt to Salzburg and back and over $4000 in fees.
And, we’re still currently in Frankfurt. Sure they will also screw up our next flights!
They delayed my bag and couldn't care less
They delayed my bag on the outward and incoming flights, customer service representing them at seattle Airport were confused and didn't seem to understand how to solve the problem, they suggested i could come back the next day to get my bag fron the airport, or wait for it to be mailed to me. I told them I was going on a cruise and the response was "how are you going to get tour bags then?"
I told them that that was for them to answer, and they told me that my bag was definitely on the next flight and that I could come back to the airport at 9pm. I aksed where in the airport to come back to, and they said that I could come to them at the baggage claim (before passport control). I asked if that was even possible, to leave and come back to there, and they said "no" as if they hadn't just told me to do that. Then they said that I could wait 3 hours in the baggage claim area, but that they were not sure my bag was on the next flight (after assuring me it was). I had no choice but to wait the 3-4 hours, eventually my bag arrived. They were still working that area, so I have no idea what they meant by "they would not be there"
Then, on the return flight they delayed my bag again. This time swissport were pretry swift at telling me where the bag was and what was happening, and how to file a report. But I wasn't able to return to the airpt to collect the bag. I am now waiting days for my bag to be delivered to my house, there is no updates or etas, just icelandair claiming that a currier has my bag.
They offer no compensation for this, beyond refunding the cost of bare essentials up to $100.
4 hours of my time in seattle wasted, I still do not have my bag 2 days after arriving back home. And they do not seem to care.
Hadden vertraging maar kregen…
Hadden vertraging maar kregen onmiddellijk compensatie en gratis eten en drinken. Zeer beleefd
Terrible "Customer Service"!!
Terrible "Customer Service"!!
The ground staff at KEF were extremely rude to me, I couldn't believe it! I would never recommend this airline, especially if you're traveling with a child.
Terrible Airline
The airline attendants at the gate were extremely rude. When I arrived with my carry-on, they instructed me to place it in the luggage sizer. I did so without any issue, and it fit completely. Despite this, they still required me to check the bag. The attendant handled the situation very unprofessionally and spoke to me in a disrespectful manner throughout the interaction. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this airline.
I won't use them again.
I became ill and had to change my flight. I had change option with a processing fee. I have to fly a week later and they not only charged the fee but more just to do it a week later for the same flight. The website states that the stayover is not more, but when I attempted to change, the 1 day layover was MUCH more. Plus, I hung up on the person taking my call and went to the chat box. She was beyond rude. I will never use them again. I wrote a note to report this and was met with "Oh well, that is just what the cost was."
The customer service ground crew and…
The customer service ground crew and ticket agent were lacking knowledge and communication skills and were not able to relay information we were constantly waiting for text and email that were delayed because we were flying internationally.
I would give them a 0 but there flight crew was amazing very intentive and informative.
If you have the extra time the in flight was great but if you need to be on time I would not recommend Icelandair

INCOMPETENT
I have a simple standard industry request on my reservation, which was confirmed months ago. Yet, for the past two weeks, I have been bombarded with requests for the same information from their HQ. They make a fortune in the US, and nobody speaks Icelandic around here. They should hire some staff who read English. Reservations (in Philippines, not US) says request is confirmed, yet I keep getting these emails from them requesting same information: 4 times now. I'm sorry I picked this airline. It will be last time.
Used to be good but now it's horrible!
This used to be the most affordable and easiest way to travel from NYC to the EU. I just traveled to and from Berlin via Icelandair, arriving back home to NYC yesterday. What a complete nightmare in both directions! On the way there we were given 40 minutes to get to our connecting flight to Berlin. But first US citizens need to go through passport control in the Reykjavik airport. It was 6:00 a.m. and the line was at least 100 people long. Instead of just checking passports and verifying identity as they do in JFK (which takes about 10 to 20 seconds.) The passport control people at that airport take anywhere from 2 to 7 minutes for each individual. This includes lengthy questioning sometimes calling a supervisor on the phone or something. Meanwhile, everyone online is getting more and more stressed out and sweating. By the time I got through passport control my flight was about to close boarding. The flight back to JFK from Berlin was even worse. We were given a 1 hour connection time for our flight to in Reykjavik, which is totally doable. However, Icelandair sat on the tarmac at the Berlin airport without even moving and with no explanation for over 40 minutes after our departure time. Finally, the captain explained that this was because they were delayed loading luggage onto the plane. So, basically they were telling us we were going to be late because they were incompetent. The flight attendants assured nervous passengers who are worried about their connections that everybody would make it to their connecting flights. Passport control was much faster to get through on the way back, but I literally had 5 minutes to catch my connecting flight to JFK. I'm a 62 year old woman with arthritis and I literally had to run as fast as I could through the airport to get to the gate just in time to get on the plane. It was extremely painful physically and seemed so unnecessary. If only this airport could plan realistic connection times. To make matters worse when I arrived in JFK my luggage didn't appear at baggage claim. After searching for a while I found an Icelandair customer service person holding a clipboard. I explained the situation, showed him my boarding pass and as soon as he saw my name he said "Oh yes, your luggage was not loaded onto the plane to JFK. Apologies for the inconvenience." So, the airline knew that my luggage and the luggage of three other people was not loaded onto the plane by the time we arrived in JFK. Why didn't I receive an email notification or text message explaining that as soon as they were aware of the issue? Why did I have to sit for 30 minutes waiting for my baggage to show up after a long flight, when they already knew it wasn't even on the plane? What an inconsiderate lack of customer service. Unbelievable really. Now they tell me they have located my baggage, and it will be on its way to New York City. But they can't tell me when that will happen. They said they hope" it will happen "sometimes" within the next 36 hours (this is over 12 hours after I had filed a delayed luggage claim with the airline, so 48 hours in total I'll be waiting for my luggage I guess.) I will never fly on this airline ever again. It used to be a great airline but it's gone horribly downhill. It was honestly the worst flying experience I've had and I've had some pretty bad flying experiences in my 40-plus years of traveling all over the world. What a shame. I used to really enjoy flying with this airline and had done so many many times.
Frustrating Experience from Start to Finish
My experience with Icelandair was extremely disappointing and poorly handled from start to finish.
My checked bag was lost upon arrival, and I reported it immediately that same night. I even provided a tracker screenshot showing the exact location of my luggage, yet it still took an entire week for the airline to recover and return it. During that time, communication was minimal and frustratingly slow. I was repeatedly told that everything had to be handled via email, with no option to speak directly to someone who could actually help move things forward.
To make matters worse, I was told my carry-on was too large to bring onboard, even though I had already flown with the same bag earlier in my trip without issue. Staff initially said it was too heavy, but when I offered to remove items, they said it wouldn’t matter because it was “too big.” When I asked to measure it, they refused. I was also the only passenger required to pay for a carry-on, while others received it complimentary. The inconsistent enforcement of policies felt disorganized and unfair, and added unnecessary stress.
Overall, the lack of urgency, poor communication, and inconsistent policy enforcement made this a disappointing experience. I would not choose to fly with Icelandair again.
Terrible airline
Paid 2300 for a flight (two different flights) from Paris to Boston. Absolutely awful. Charged for water and food. TV and movies were older. Wait staff was rude and made a point to constantly ask every single person to show they had buckled their seat belt. Um, excuse me WTF?! Will never use them again and honestly — off putting to even go visit Iceland now.
I will never fly with Icelandair again.
I will never fly with Icelandair ever again and this is why you shouldn’t either.
The hostess are ALL very very rude and mean, they will do absolutely anything they can to make sure you will pay extra fees for your suitcase, if it’s 1cm bigger or 200gr more than it should, you are screwed. On a night flight from Chicago to Reykjavik we didn’t get served dinner nor a miserable snack and I am 100% sure about it since it was not possible to sleep at all. The seats are ridiculously small and uncomfortable, no WiFi free, no dinner, no snacks, no drinks, no headphones. Literally nothing.
Horrible horrible company - DO NOT BOOK
I wish I had seen the reviews on this plant form before booking. Had the utmost racist experience with their agent at Stansted airport and they have been unwilling to address this after making me wait well over a month before responding to my initial complaint.
Racist and incompetent customer service that harassed me at check-in up until before boarding for my work trip. As a Black woman, I would NOT recommend this company. If you can book with a different company do so, even if it’s a bit more expensive. The discomfort and blatant racism and dismissiveness after isn’t worth it. I’m still pursuing an appeal. Horrible horrible company. Never again.
(V)Iceland Air- when things go wrong
Arrived at Kevlavik (national airport of Reykjavik) en-route to New York. My ESTA was not accepted and I missed my connecting flight. Spent a night at the deserted airport and after a new ESTA arrived the next day, I was asked to fork out 1,500 EUR for another ticket. That flight was then delayed and I missed my connecting flight from New York to San Fransisco. Another night at an airport. That things don't always work out is fine, but to charge again, after I had already paid for the ticket?! Grubby, money hungry and distasteful - in my opinion. It looks like Iceland Air needs the money more than I do, which means AVOID AT ALL COST! They probably don't have the funds to pay for anything that may go wrong with your flight.
There was definitely no reimbursement to me! A decision they arrived at after several attempts to contact their customer service.
This was not my first flight with Iceland, but -barring compelling circumstances- certainly my last!
Forced Charges, Rude Staff, and Dishonest Claims
Absolutely disgraceful experience with Icelandair. I was forced to check in a 9kg cabin bag that was fully within the 10kg allowance and then charged £66 for it. To make matters worse, staff tried to charge me again for the same bag on my inbound flight, falsely claiming I hadn’t paid — completely absurd.
The staff were rude and dismissive, and the supervisor was particularly unhelpful and arrogant. I was told there was “no space” in the cabin, yet the flight was nearly empty with plenty of overhead storage clearly visible. Blatant dishonesty.
On top of that, my flight was changed, forcing me to pay for an extra hotel night — with zero accountability from the airline.
Easily one of the worst travel experiences I’ve ever had. If I could give zero stars, I would. Avoid at all costs.
