Knock Airport - getting through security is a disaster
I used to think Knock airport was a great benefit to the region, and would always prefer to fly from there than drive to Dublin. However, unfortunately it is no longer fit for purpose. I have flown to Stansted twice this year on a Friday (earlier in May and 25th September 2026) and both times have been horrendous. Most recently I arrived at the airport 2 hours before my flight to find a queue to the external door for getting through security. I only had hand luggage but lots of people were confused as to whether this was the queue to check in baggage. The fact that there are only two people taking the compulsory €10 development fee slows everything up. What is this charge for, it's been there years yet there are no real improvements to the airport. You then have to queue for only 2 security scanners and the removal of some of the preparation area means even though you don't have to take liquids out it seems to take longer than before. On top of that there are 5 flights within just over an hour and no where near enough space to cope. There was a lady calling people to the front of the security queue, first for the Birmingham flight, then for the Faro flight as they departed before Stansted. As a result I did not move in the queue for ages. By the time I got through security I had no time for breakfast as my own flight was queuing to board. The whole experience was a shambles from start to finish. Stansted is a much busier airport yet I sailed through security in 10 minutes today. It's no good increasing car parks and offering more flights from Knock without improving the facilities. There is so much dead space in the check in hall and also in the restaurant upstairs which is before you go through security and hardly used. Surely the airport can be reconfigured to provide more security lanes and more space for eating and waiting before flying.
Hideous never cease to amaze
Hideous never cease to amaze. HERTZ DOLAR THRIFTY 3 hrs+ waiting for a pre ordered hire car thats not there. Then went to the lounge to wait, 4 euro for a small bottle of Orange with a 15 cent deposit as its in a plastic bottle "as thats what Europe do". To top it off asked for money to help pay for the improvement of the place over the past 40 years. Absolute con and joke

Great little airport but avoid the food ! Chicken in their curry is un-edible cheap processed crap . Tasted rubbery and looked under cooked (pink) , despite going back with it i was ensured it was perfectly fine to eat as its bought pre-cooked and then steamed ! No thanks !
Knock airport never fails to rip you off.
As has been the case on a no. of previous visits, the departure lounge of this airport is a complete rip off, not only are they more than happy to keeping adding an additional tax when you depart, the prices in the departure area are scandalous, during my trips here I have noticed increasing numbers of people bringing their own food into departures, no doubt, in future they will also stamp this out. Purchasing a bottled drink, they also hide the real cost. As is the case in Ireland there is a bottle tax, when you purchase this is always included in the price on display, but not in Knock, they have taken it upon themselves to hide this cost in the small print, on the advertised price, so when you go to pay for their already over priced products, there is an additional cost. Beware. I would love to be positive about this place, but unfortunately it always fails. Given a choice, when it suits, Belfast or Dublin are the preference. Poor service, food, parking etc.

Very racist the lady at check in for Barcelona Girona fligh on 2nd July. Shame on you. First time when happens. No more flights from here. Better from Dublin, even if I have to drive 500 km. Try to avoid...
Incredibly rude "mandatory fee" handler
Its not so much the 10 Euros per passenger "development charge" which, according to Trustpilot reviewers, has been taken for over 13 years, at least - it's the extremely rude, uniformed-authority-types they've planted at the charging kiosk who, when asked what the fee is for (no information prior to security, anywhere in the airport, on your booking information or on their website, bellowed "No pay, no go" ....
First of all, that's a threat, not a request for funding... However, I merely enquired what the fee was for, in order to pass through to security.
I travel to and from Ireland 3 times a year. This is my first and last use of Knock Airport. They should use the mandatory investment money for some basic customer service training from the superior Shannon, Cork or Dublin.
The leaflet that was then thrust into my hand when told "go have a read about your investment" stated that Knock Airport have 'taken', spent and are continuing to 'take' for the "upgrade of the electrical infrastructure" It should look like the Vegas Strip by now.
Unexpected extra tax
Airpirt fine but unexpected extra airport charge of 10€ when already paid taxes to airline. Should be included. A short-sighted, greedy extra that creates bad last impression of West Ireland.
Rude gate staff
Rude gate staff earning their keep charging passengers if their bag is 1cm too wide. Ryanair. Sour faced hatchet heifer in a dead end job acting like the gestapo. Roll on the EU mandate and these losers won’t get the ONE THIRD of their money for being ignorant.

Super airport servicing the West of Ireland. Quick, convenient, no chaos. Parking 2 min walk from terminal and great destinations to choose from.
The loveliest staff.
My husband and I flew to Malaga on the 1st October we got to the airport to find out that my suitcase was not in the boot of the car.I went immediately to the Ryan Air desk to ask if it was possible for my daughter who was an hour away to collect my suitcase and bring it to the airport. The ground hostess reassured me that it would not be a problem she advised us to go
through she would get it checked and bring it to the gate.I was still in the queue when she brought the suitcase to me.I was so relieved she was more than happy to help me so kind and caring.I often travel through Knock airport going to the UK.i find the staff always friendly and happy and nothing is too much trouble.I am forever grateful to everyone involved.
Lost property
Arrived back from a Luton flight to discover I had mislaid bags. Phoned airport re same and assured by a very kind lady that baggage was located. I decided to drive back later that evening and a very kind, helpful gentleman, Mick Monaghan assisted as offices were closed. I fly from Knock and I always say....Knock Airport has the most professional, helpful staff, a pleasure to deal with on every occasion.
Unhappy experience in West Ireland airport
A development charge of 10 euros per person for some reason? Flights delayed with no communication. Had to try to find information on line. Over crowded and stressful. 😔
Despite develooment charge they seem to…
Despite develooment charge they seem to be getting worse at managing the numbers of passengers. If they have not got room to accomodate 4 planefuls of people in the Departure area at the snae time then why not spread the departure times out a bit more and time them so that not everyone is processed to be air-side at the same time. They would also benefit from having the smoking area better sited so that every time someone goes out to it or comes in from it they aren't accompanied by the smoke it is presumably intended to keep out of the building.
Can't stand this Development charge
Can't stand this Development charge. Never heard such BS. Why don't they charge- if they must- when you're paying for tickets. It is ludicrous, I thought it was passport control, the staff behind the screen all officious. Literally demanding 10 euro extra per person. So they have you over a barrel and pounce when you've no option, you're railroaded. Then gaslight you, it's only 10 euro each.
I was equidistant between Belfast & Knock, this stealth charge and high prices in very noisy canteen put me off Knock. Rip off Ireland.
Excellent customer service
We travelled through this airport on Friday and returned on Monday. My mother uses a walking stick and the minute the staff here saw this we were offered assisted travel, wheelchair, fast tracked to security and a lift onto the plane and as the flight was not full my mum got a better placed seat to suit her condition. I could not praise the staff highly enough, they were so polite and not once did they make my mother feel like a burden or an inconvenience. It made for a very enjoyable journey for her. On our return to the airport today, again, staff were extremely helpful and gave us assistance once again. This is a fantastic airport, with brilliant staff and they should all be commended for their treatment of people.
Knock Airport, some improvement needed
No water fountain, despite a 10€ "Development ” charge.
It took me 50mins to drive the 40 miles from my home to the Airport, and 40 mins to go through the 3 queues at the airport to 1 -, check in my baggage, 2- pay the airport tax and 3 - bag check. Only one x-ray machine operating. Poor scheduling of flights with three scheduled to depart at the same time. Other than that, the staff were nice and polite
The airport
The airport, is small and easy to navigate. Location is very convenient for people living in surrounding counties.
Security was good and efficient.
The cooked breakfast offering was overpriced and unappetising.
Absolute disgrace that there was no filtered water
available to customers.
Especially considering they are charging every passenger an additional 10euro charge to pass through the airport.
We had to queue at the bar for tap water .
Beware 'The Airport Development Charge'.
Knock Airport. Beware the 'Airport Development Charge'. After you have organized your flight, traveled to the airport, and made all your arrangements,
just be aware just after you have passed through security, passport control and all of that, you are met by a further kiosk desk where you are asked ( or should I say blackmailed !) to pay 'An airport development charge of ten euros'.
This now for an airport built and operational in 1985, 40 years ago ! As I understand it if you do not pay this charge, you will not be going any further on your already paid for journey.
What choice are you left with at this stage but to pay up, for each passenger. A total rip off. Deceitful, sly and very underhand. Gives a very bad impression of so called Irish hospitality I must say.
'Its on our website', state the administrators of Knock airport. But when traveling I check my airlines website, where I purchased my travel ticket, and not the airport website I am traveling from.
This is not a charge levied at Dublin, Shannon, why should it be so here ? I will not travel from here again in the future.
