Traumatic experience with a member, but no point in complaining
I had a terrible experience with a member of this professional body. When I contacted the institute for help, a very nice member of staff explained their complaints process to me. In a nutshell, there's ~7-9 months of he said/she said before any decision is made and there's no beneficial outcome for the consumer.
My experience brings me to tears every time I recount it. I have no wish to repeatedly relive it for no outcome.
There's no reason for engineers to adhere to the "code of conduct". Engineers have no incentive not to over-engineer solutions to offer a cheap or sustainable solution because there's negative outcome for them.
I dread the day I have further need for a structural engineer as I couldn't find any recommendations for ANY within the industry. They seem to be known as a necessary, expensive evil. If I were a professional fee-paying member of this body, I would be disappointed that my fees don't help distinguish the good from the bad for the benefit of consumers/environment.
