I had the pleasure of dealing with Murray Volkswagen Plymouth and the very professional sales executive Rebecca this week.
The sales department and management were without doubt the most welcoming and attentive team I have ever dealt with and I should know as I had over 10 years working within a motor trade sales environment. From the moment I entered the dealership and started my dealing which took a few days of me going back and forth due to not really knowing what I myself wanted, but, Rebecca put me at ease and eased me gently towards my purchase she was polite friendly and very understanding of my situation being extreme anxiety, which was ongoing over the last few years.
I placed an order but the following day after a sleepless "buyers remorse" night I decided to withdraw from the order. I emailed Rebecca to inform of the situation and she could not have been more helpful and understanding, so I tip my hat to you Murray Volkswagen in your highly professional acquisition of employment of Rebecca she is a credit to your company and indeed all the management also in their understanding. I will indeed when ready will come back to Murray Volkswagen when I feel I'm ready to make my forever car purchase.
I would highly recommend Murray Volkswagen and they're highly professional and understanding team of sales women and salesman and indeed the whole management and staff including the very kind reception teams.

First time I have been to Murray VW (Plymouth). I booked my ID4 in for a software update as the software would keep forgetting the charging locations I enter, meaning it would fail to charge overnight, and to query why the AC was not very cold. I was told this would take 3-4hours.

I dropped the car off at 9am, came back a bit early at 11:30 to check progress and was told 1-2 hours more, which was fine. After this I was left sitting there (not wanting to bother anyone) for 2.25 hours, until I went to find someone to ask again about the progress. At this point I was told the car had completed one software update, but needed another, which they had not started yet as they wanted to check with me first as it would take 4 hours, and probably would not be done today before closing time. So, I could either leave the car and find another way to get 20miles home (no courtesy car available) or rebook another day. I left at 14:45, and got home at 15:30, having left the house 7.5 hours earlier to get this done, and as far as I can tell virtually nothing has been done:
The software version is still showing as the same 2.3 that I had before, despite being told it was partially updated.
The recall they did not mention in advance involved apparently just spraying some sealing lubricant on the boot hinges.
The AC was recalibrated, which took perhaps 15 minutes, judging by the time I reminded them of it.
One member of staff apologised and said they were short staffed, which was appreciated. Another made excuses such as the updates taking longer than expected (despite apparently not being done?) and it taking time to find what was going on with the AC (despite them not realising about it until I reminded them less than 30 minutes before I left).

Now I must wait for another appointment, take more time off work, and waste another day of my time.

I'm not normally one to publicly complain, so this is a rare type of review for me, but I have never had such a poor experience with a car dealership before.

Murray Skoda replaced my tyres without informing me that the new tyres were of poor quality and safety, and not suitable for me. David Briscoe, service manager, was unhelpful and rude in dealing with me, insisting I was lying about what I was told, even though he wasn't there and so couldn't know. Escalating the issue to Kevin Murray, managing director, was no help as he just went along with what he was told by the service manager who wasn't present at the time.
Mr Murray was unwilling to help, but also unable to detail why he believes his company aren't responsible for the problem they have caused me...a disappointing lack of clarity and customer care from the top! The lack of willingness to put right a problem they have caused has cost me an unnecessary £220, as I replaced the tyres myself with much safer ones a few days later.

A dealership representing a brand like Skoda should be willing to admit when a mistake is made and put it right for the customer. If they had done this there would have only been minor inconvenience. Instead their lack of accountability and honesty in refusing to put the issue right has wasted so much of my time, has cost me an entire set of new tyres unnecessarily, and has set Murray Skoda as a poor representative of the values of the Skoda brand. The website makes a point of being family owned, and on this occasion they have definitely been covering each other's backs rather than looking out for the customer!

Very impressive service from Murray vw southwest Newton abbot Plymouth Great Vw dealership fair prices Lovely staff always welcoming have been using this vw dubs dealership for the past 3 years have been a1 from day one ignore the bad reviews probley didn’t even come in for a coffee lol always get a service and mot reminder with in good time never pushy even when I haven’t replied for a few weeks they know I will call them back tho lol another great service and mot with know advisory’s this shows the time and effort these people have put in in the past for me the long hours hard shifts the fumes then inhale in the process vws a great cars very reliable if you choose to look after them rate them 5stars anyday don’t know why a low trustpilot reviews give them a try u never know you might get lucky 👍

Dismal customer service and customer care right from checking-in the vehicle to collecting it.

I checked the car in just after 8.30am and was told by Lisa that it would take a “couple of hours” for the service and MOT. She wrote down 12 midday on the booking form. I asked Lisa for a drop-off in town and immediately she said no, not possible as no cars available. She did not even make an effort or check. Luckily a nice man overheard this and said a drop-off was available.

At 11.30am and asked Lisa for an update on my car, her response was that she has not had the paper work back on her desk so I must wait, she made no effort to check with the workshop. At 12 midday I asked her colleague for an update and he came back and said another 1.5 hours to wait, the service had not even finished and MOT not even started (VW will respond that they only have one MOT line but this is irrelevant as the service was not even complete). I had to cancel the MOT as I was late to take my mother to a GP appointment.

I waited a further 15 minutes before the car was done. When I paid Lisa failed to advise me on outstanding work required (safety issues such as break fluid replacement which was due), luckily I thought to ask on the way out. So poor VW.

This is the worst experience I have ever had when servicing a car. Never again Murray Volkswagen. I was clearly strapped for time when I booked the service for 8.30am but Murray VW gave no consideration to this. I left the premises with no MOT. Overall a nasty experience.

I’ve always bought cars from garages , so you know you’re car safe and no problems driving car . This garage should have its license and shut down . Service and faults I’m having with the car and manger unreliable with issues. And they catch you out 30 days return I never buy car off them again or you shouldn’t ,

As a longtime Motability customer and VW driver, I have always had good service from the Newton Abbot branch and Claire Tudge in particular.
But, when forced to contact the Plymouth site Motability for a change to Skoda vehicle, they failed to call back and bother to find out how much I was willing to spend. So it looks like a rival Skoda dealer in Exeter will be the beneficiary of my business now.

Why would you want to buy a Volkswagen from anywhere else?
I want to say a huge thank you to Kevin Murray, Dave and all the staff at Murray Volkswagen for finding the perfect car for my son. They made the handover a real piece of theatre and made my son feel like the most important person on the planet. They arranged a great part exchange, powder coated the wheels in black the car looked like it was fresh from the factory despite being a used vehicle. Got me a part. (Which was £300 cheaper than another Plymouth garage!). Great service. They went the extra mile to help me out.
