No learner permits for months
No learner permits for months, no updates, stuck on processing, we were told that they had system malfunctions. We were told to wait for confirmations, as everything was good from our side. But for how long? 4 more weeks? 8 more weeks? They avoided those questions. They did many mistakes, apologized, we understand, its COVID, we tried to be as polite as possible too. Support was staff was kind at most, we were too, but the time is out.
Should we stay polite and wait?
Or we start a legal investigation?
Wait and see.

Paid 50€ To renew and went into the office to get my licence as thought would be easier. Girl wrote my email wrong by spelling ashling with Aisling which is not my name so I never got emails that I had to upload a utility bill.
my application was rejected which I didn’t get told until I rang in. And I was then told I was to blame for not giving my own email correct to them apparently.
Paid €50 online to reapply to see that I can’t use my new picture just taken a month ago but I have to use my 18 year old picture as they’re incapable of processing the other one just done a month ago.
Absolutely ridiculous show of service I want my new picture taken in November 2021 not my 18 year old one!

Very unpleasant and very unhelpful
I am currently living abroad, my work takes me abroad often. My driving licence is out of date since 2020 and I tried to exchange my irish licence for a french one. However, this was refused as my Irish license is not in date and therefore, according to them, not valid. I need to sort this out with my own country first, I was told. I travelled home especially to do just this. I was honest and told the person in the ndls office that my irish address is not where Im currently living as Im currently working in France. In answer to this I was told in a very curt and agressive manner that, in that case, they could not renew my license. I explained my predicament and tried to press for some advice on how to resolve this situation but the reply was very curt and hostile and I was shunted out the door. I was told and I quote, " As you're living abroad you have lost your rights in Ireland ". Apparently I have also lost the right to be treated with respect. I was very shocked and saddened at the rudeness and lack of helpfulness. Coming home and finding myself being treated as such is very unpleasant.
I still do not lnow what I should do to get my license renewed and I do need to drive.
The information given was quite likely correct and I am not complaining about their refusal to renew my license. I am complaining however about the attitude of the person towards me and the complete lack of willlingness to help, reassure. I was made to feel as if I was purposely attempting to break the law and rob something from Ireland to which I had no right. It was a very unpleasant experience.

Terrible service!! on hold for 30 mins, trying to speak to someone, they can't amend driver licence applications over the phone,They will take your money and can cancel your application but your not entitled to a refund.!!!
The back log of renewals from the pandemic, is a full 12 months. No options or solutions given !!!!!

My 17 year old daughter passed her theory test on October 5th , she was not given any information other than she has to book an appointment online with The NDLS to get her learner permit, on going into the NDLS she was told they don't accept cash payment s & she needed to book another appointment because she had only cash to pay them, she booked another appointment this time in The NDLS in Mallow as the office in Cork City was booked solid for over 4 weeks, she went to Mallow for her appointment only to be told that their card payment machine was not working, ( they could have sent a txt to say) & again she was told book another appointment very rudely, she went back into the NDLS in Cork City on 5th of November, only to be told she needed an eye test report & apparently this information is meant to be all over their website ( I haven't seen it once even though I'm the one who's booking the appointments for her) she got another appointment for 9.50am today November 5th but over being anxious & stressed at this stage she forgot her pps card, she had her medical card with her pps number on it , but they very nastily said " Well its not our fault you don't have the right documents " i was waiting outside the office for her & I was told the very same thing in a very aggressive & nasty tone as I was pleading with the lady in question to have some compassion , but no I was told its her own fault for not having the right documents.
Fair enough she may not have had the right documents, but is that anyway to speak to someone? My daughter suffers from anxiety & this is flooring her everytime to the point she never wants to go there again,
This service needs to be named & shamed for their attitude towards the people who need to get their driving licence , they seem to forget that people in this day & age will stand up for their rights & they will not take been spoken to like they are a piece of trash,
NDLS: A competely incompetent and inefficient entity
Would give their telephone contact service and licence service negative marks. Tried to exchange a foreign licence in December last year. No word from them for 4 months. Called twice and waited 40-55min each time only to be told that "someone was looking into the issue". After two letters to their Operations Manager (wonder what he actually does) finally got my licence returned. My wife waited until September (9 months) and wrote to their Operations Manager with no reply. She rang them today and although on calling she was told that there were no calls ahead of her and that the wait time was 1 minute. However it was only 25min before someone answered the call. Were they all on a coffee break and finally decided to answer? When she identified herself the NDLS customer agent put her on hold to "check with his manager". He came back to her and said that he had "escalated her query" My wife, despite being nice and polite throughout the conversation just asked if her licence had been lost, because they hadn't written to her for 10 months, didn't reply to her letter from the month before, and now didn't appear to know where her licence was, the NDLS customer agent Tomas became angry and aggressive and alarmingly raised his voice to try to bully her. My wife descalated the situation by being calm and told him that there was no need to get angry and aggressive and that she just wanted her licence, which is a legal government document, back. On asking about why they had not answered her letter, he noted that the letter had been received but had no answer to why they did not reply to it. The NDLS appears to be a completely incompetent entity that should be shut down - it is run badly, inefficiently and have made a mess of a simple procedure. No doubt they have lost my wife's licence. Just waiting to see what pathetic excuse they give.

Dreadful awful frustrating slow annoying heartbreaking suffering extremely bad grim dire terrible frightful horrible awful Service. I have applied for my first time full driving licence on the 5th of August 2021. They have sent my licence to the wrong address!! and now I can't find any solution! I have called more than 10 times, waiting for 40-60 minutes every time and hearing different things each time! That is insane! I was told to update my details online (after 3 calls) and then I will receive my licence after 3-4 days. I uploaded my proof of address and called 2 times to confirm that it is fine. Today I was told that my proof of address is not approved and I need to update another one. But there is no option on the site to upload a new proof of address as my address is already there!! I called again (and wait 45 minutes!) and was told that everything is fine and I do not need to do anything else. I will call again to check because I can not really trust them!
They messed up my application in City West centre and I have spent many hours on phone and a lot of money on my phone bill trying to fix the problem and still do not know if I can ever get my licence!

Terrible experience
Terrible experience. Said online a phone bill was adequate enough to be used as proof of address, when I arrived after driving 40mins to drogheda I was told it wasn't and that it had to be landline which was not specified at all. She was very unpleasant to deal with and had no regard for how my second name in Irish was pronounced and even made a face when calling it out which was very disrespectful. Terrible customer service.

What a terrible institution. Requested to exchange my driver licenses to an Irish one. Im currently in month 7 and it still need to be reviewed, they are not willing to share any other information than that it is in “progress”. And now there are blaming the country where I’m from for not providing them the information where they asked for on time. Ringed them and they said they only received the application 4 week back. Since April CS agents are telling me that is ready to be send out. I work as a delivery driver and because of this BS I lost my job. For the first 3 months my employer accepted the proof of application. But is it states that it CAN take up to 3 months and not 7 he had to let me go. THANKS NDLS! Shame your self!

This is obviously a government body. No chance of any disciplinary action as evidenced by the absolutely dismissive attitude of the staff in Ballyogan NDLS.
The chap who was at reception, Jamie, was playing on his phone when I arrived and the whole time I was there and forgot to tell me to go ahead and deal with the available agent.
I was left sitting around for 15 minutes completely unnecessarily as agents were free.
Their Charter claims they welcome complaints and when you try to fill in the "form" there is no dropdown for complaints. LOL
When I eventually got to the cubicle The young lady I dealt was both friendly and professional.

Useless Id be honest i would not give you any stars Over 6 months to swap a license over and i am still waiting received a letter today claiming i am missing some paperwork 6 months to notice this ,when i called office within 2 weeks of sending they claimed they had it all and it was being processed. What has your office been doing for 6 months i have built houses,schools, and colleges in that time.
NDLS Citywest great customer service
I was in NDLS Citywest yesterday to renew my permit but I have to say , I am very pleased with great customer servicei received from booth 13 or 14.
She was extremely helpful and dealt with my enquiry really well. She was an example.
Applied for a driving licence 8 weeks…
Applied for a driving licence 8 weeks ago and still haven’t received it. Tried emailing and calling but they make you wait over 40 minutes on the line just to say how sorry they are. People I know applied for their licence 6 weeks after me and got it within 2 weeks. They can’t explain why they are processing new applications and not mine. They were paid for a service they are not providing. How hard is it to verify my document and print a piece of plastic? I’m sick of their excuses at this point.

Customer support are inconsistent and each tells me something different
They have held my foreign license for 2 full months since January until now and they haven't given me any update. I called a week ago to ask about progress, put me on hold for a long time and then tell me they will call me back, but they never did.
I call again today and first they tell me I should have sent my documents to RSA even though it's crystal clear on their website to send to NDLS
After I tell them about this then they investigate and they say the exact same thing that they will call me back. I say I have been waiting for this callback for a week and I can't trust to be actually called unfortunately. But they say they have no other option than calling me back. It's already 55 minutes I am on a call by this time.
This whole process of getting a learner permit and reduced EDT has been a part-time job for me in the last two months! First they mess up the post and tell me they might have not received my documents, then they say they have received them, then they don't post it properly so I have to go collect it back myself, then this reduced EDT which I have to call every week to see what happened to my original driver license and I really hope they haven't lost it, I wouldn't be surprised if they did!

Emailed three times the past week with no response. Then finally called them and got a generated response saying that their too busy to deal with my call at the moment and to try again later. You wouldn’t want to be in rush...

Also they DESCRIMINATE against people who do not need/have a Public Services Card or MyGovID as you cannot renew online - these are not required to obtain a licence and are not a mandatory by law.

They are just terrible. Calling to abtran outsourcing which they never listen what we ask and never helps each agent says something different.
