Not a good start for a new Bus Company Contract
On 20th September 2026 the bus service from Upper Arncott to Bicester changed from Stagecoach to Thames Transit 25A. The worst move ever for the local residents. The first day they were 20 minutes late leaving from Upper Arncott (10.15 instead of 09.55) OK, not a major disaster as they were not local area drivers. The return journey the 11.40 bus left Bicester at 12.20 ie 40 minutes late which was slightly more annoying! That also meant that the next bus due to leave Upper Arncott at 11.55 was 40 minutes late!! Since then the service has got better time-wise.
Unfortunately, last Friday (9th October) all the goodwill that was building up with the locals was completely wiped out. The 11.40 bus from Bicester was about 5 minutes late which isn’t unusual for a Friday however, when the bus did turn up it drove past the correct bus stop, stopped a way further down the road, waited probably less than a minute then drove off leaving all the passengers waiting at the correct stop, including an elderly lady in a wheelchair and her carer, another lady who needed a crutch, an elderly gentleman and myself (aged 75+) behind.
As the next bus was a 2 hour wait, I phoned Thames Travel to let them know the situation and what they were going to do about it. To cut a long phone call short all the Customer Service rep said was that they were sorry. We had to get a Taxi home so I requested that the £12.50 Taxi fare be reimbursed but the answer was a resounding NO!
If this is the service we are to expect from Thames Travel, all I can say is: COME BACK STAGECOACH – WE MISS YOU.
