As a first-time customer, I wasn't sure what to expect - but Southall Travel completely won me over.

My father and I recently launched a startup together, and he needed to fly out to meet a key client who's funding our business. Everything was riding on this trip. When we realised we'd mixed up the dates, I braced myself for the worse, sky-high change fees and a stressful back-and-forth.

Instead, I got Garth.

From the moment he picked up the phone, Garth was calm, professional, and genuinely helpful. He didn't try to take advantage of the situation or push unnecessary costs onto us. He understood we were a new business watching every penny, and he worked hard to keep the price as low as possible while sorting everything out quickly.

For a startup trying to make a strong first impression with an important client, that kind of support meant everything. Southall Travel didn't just fix a booking, they helped protect a relationship that matters to our business.

Unfortunately, my experience with Southall Travel has been extremely disappointing and stressful from start to finish.

I originally booked Air India flights for my family through Southall Travel. When our inbound flight was later cancelled due to airline operational issues, the refund process became incredibly difficult and lacking in transparency.

The main issue was not the cancellation itself, but the way the refund was handled afterwards.

Air India later confirmed to me in writing that the refund had already been processed to the travel agency, yet for weeks I was repeatedly told the refund was still “pending with the airline.” I struggled to obtain:

a clear refund timeframe,
the exact refund amount,
and any explanation as to how the amount had been calculated.

I eventually had to pursue the matter through MBNA chargeback procedures before meaningful documentation was provided.

Whilst Southall Travel later produced IATA BSP screenshots showing partial refunds authorised by Air India, there was still no detailed fare or tax calculation explaining why the unused Amritsar–London inbound sector resulted in such a low refund amount.

I also received evidence relating to an entirely different passenger/case as part of the documentation submitted during the dispute process, which seriously reduced my confidence in the handling of customer cases and refund evidence.

In addition to this, I also had a very poor experience when trying to rearrange our travel plans for the Golden Triangle tour after the disruption.

Initially, I was quoted a very high combined figure for both flight alterations and tour arrangements, and I was specifically told that the majority of the cost related to the flight changes.

However, when I later asked for pricing for the tour arrangements only (without the flights), the price reduced by only a few hundred pounds, which made very little sense based on what I had previously been told.

I therefore carried out my own research and found comparable private Golden Triangle tour packages at significantly lower prices than what I was being quoted.

The entire experience left me feeling that pricing lacked consistency and transparency throughout.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this situation has genuinely been exhausting and time-consuming.

My honest advice to others would be:if possible, book directly with the airline, especially for long-haul family travel, as handling disruptions and refunds through a third-party travel agent can become extremely complicated and stressful. It’s a shame as I’ve used Southall Travel previously and it’s usually been ok. But that’s because the whole trip and travel went smoothly. The real test comes when there is travel disruption and Southall completely failed. It was bad enough being stuck abroad for so long due to the Gulf situation and Southall Travel just made matters worse. Had I gone directly with the airline, my refund for the leg not travelled would have hit my bank account without 10 days. Southall Travel are still sitting on the money despite airline confirming they have already sent the refund.

The booking did not take much time as information given was perfect and concise.

Very disappointing experience with Southall Travel. I was repeatedly told different things regarding the price match policy and the communication was extremely poor from the beginning. I was informed someone would contact me within 24 hours, but nobody did. I had to keep chasing for updates myself through multiple emails and calls.
Despite providing the details requested, the company kept changing requirements and repeating the same responses without properly resolving the issue. One advisor, Ravinder, was also rude during phone conversations and even implied that I was being dishonest, which I found completely unprofessional and unacceptable customer service.
Instead of trying to genuinely help, they kept delaying the matter and avoiding escalation to a supervisor or manager when requested. Overall, the experience caused unnecessary stress and frustration. I would expect much better communication, professionalism, and customer support from a travel company.

I cannot thank Hector enough for all that he did, to ensure me, my family and friends could all get to Bali and attend my daughter's wedding.

All went well. We had no issues with the flights and all hotels were as described. Communication and advice was always prompt and always reassuring. All documentation was received in plenty of time prior to going.

And most importantly my daughter and son-in-law are married and we are back home safely, despite the disruption and stress due to the unpredictable situation in the Middle East.

We had the most amazing time in Singapore, Malaysia and Bali and Hector's dedication, support and assistance prior and during the holiday was above and beyond my expectations.

Hector deserves to get a pay rise, because he deserve that and so much more.

I will definitely recommend Hector and Southall Travel to all my friends and family and am looking forward to arranging my next holiday with this company in the future.
