I'd give a zero star if I could
I'd give a zero star if I could. Horrible to deal with, took forever to get everything up and running and whatever you do don't let them touch your roof if anything needs to be done to it to install the solar system. Try and find a roofer/solar installer if at all possible otherwise you're stuck between roofers not wanting to get involved to fix or point out problems that a solar company did and of course the solar company doesn't think anything is wrong with the work they did to the roof. Wish I'd never gotten solar panels installed. It's expensive and huge expense having them removed/reinstalled to fix a roof.

Horrible experience
I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction and frustration with the lackluster customer service I have received regarding the malfunctioning panels I purchased from your company. The prolonged wait for a resolution to this issue, coupled with a staggering $2,000 bill, has left me incredibly dissatisfied as a customer.
First and foremost, the extended wait time for a resolution is simply unacceptable. It has been months since I initially reported the malfunctioning panels, and the lack of progress in resolving this issue is both disheartening and inconvenient. I expected better customer service and a more timely response to address the problem.
Furthermore, the financial burden I am facing due to the malfunctioning panels is significant. I entrusted your company to provide reliable and long-lasting products, yet after only 7 years of installation, the panels have failed to function properly. As a result, I am left with a hefty bill that I should not have to bear.
I kindly request an immediate and effective resolution to this matter. I insist on a thorough examination of the panels and a comprehensive plan to rectify the situation promptly. I also expect a fair adjustment to the bill, considering the inconvenience and financial strain caused by the malfunctioning panels.
If this issue is not promptly addressed and resolved to my satisfaction, I will have no choice but to escalate my complaint to higher authorities, consumer protection agencies, and share my experience on various review platforms. I trust that your company values its customers and their satisfaction, and I hope to see swift action in rectifying this situation.
I look forward to your immediate response and a resolution that will restore my faith in your company's commitment to customer service.

Absolutely the worst company
Absolutely the worst company. If you use their services READ YOUR CONTRACT! We had this service and thought everything ok until we sold our home. They literally told me we couldn’t just cancel service, we would not own our system unless we bought them for 30,000. If we’d finished the contract out we still wouldn’t own them. Was told we could literally be held hostage in our home by their equipment if buyers couldn’t take them over, and made us pay additional 300. Just to have the buyers take over the lease. THEY ALSO TOOK ALL OF OUR TAX CREDITS!!! Disgusting treatment.

Customer service non-existent
Customer service non-existent. Original sales person ghosted me after the installation was done. The panels were installed two months ago and my electric bill is down maybe 30%. So I’m actually paying more per month. I just wanted to run it by Sunpower to make sure the installation was correct but they just ignore all type of communication.

SunPower poor support and ticket system
I followed up again today on my so called opened case and they could not even find the correct information related to my opened case. They kept saying that for some odd reason a new case was not created for my recent issue and they added the notes to old case number. They rep said he was not sure why they did not create a new case number for my issue from august and created request that no one has even looked at it. Now I'm wondering if I selected the correct company for my Solar panels.They are still providing excuses on why they are behind, They need to get with the problem and get my system functioning at 100%

Total Chaos, Nightmare - better go somewhere else
The initial process from sales to contract signing was great. Kyle with sales and Sue with the project coordination really got through the installation schedule very fast and efficiently. Problems started when they arrived for the installation. The panels were not installed per the drawings. The inside flex conduit was stretched like a water hose pulling the wiring from my breaker panels based on how stretched it was. Multiple holes were left in my walls which are still unpatched. When I brought this up to the sales dep. they came out the following week and explained that they needed to add another switch because of the distance but wouldn’t unless I said something. Then of course I paid cash for the system and upon turning it on and immediately not working, everyone had gone silent. The sales rep quit, the project manager has said it’s not his issue and to talk to customer service ( on multiple occasions). When contacted tech support to submit service tickets to get it to work they even mentioned a ticket should have been submitted after energizing the system but of course the project coordinator doesn’t care so he didn’t. The poor customer service staff try extremely hard to help, but are met with the same , if not worse response from their supervisors to relay to me, which has been ‘we will get back to you’ which they never do. Now I’m sitting with 50k worth of solar panels on my roof , completely dead and useless, and never worked., and the only response I get is ‘our next appt is in October you want to cancel it ?! ( the install was in July!) and that's just to check the system, who knows when it'll be working. Definitely the worst experience I’ve ever encountered with any company. And what makes it worse is that while the reps try to help, you can hear in their voice they’re met with the same arrogance and helplessness from their own team. SunPowers long history is what brought me to buy their panels, but this has been a nightmare of a company to deal with and it seems now I'm stuck with them.

18 months!
18 months!! That's how long it took Sunpower to get our solar system approved. They installed the panels in Feb.2022 and they sat useless on our roof for the next 18 months while Sunpower kept messing up installation details, permitting and inspections. They kept naming mistakes over and over and over. You would think they would know how to get a solar system approved since that's all they do? Very unprofessional!

12 year cash system
12 year cash system, now down for 6 months. Inverter failed again. About every few years. All the promises and lies. Called every 2 weeks or so. They even ask me for contractors. Fact is they pulled out of the east coast and probably the country. I have spoken to all of my old contractors and they informed me they dont pay. I have contacted BBB, I am pritty sure a lawyer is next. The contract is for 20 years. I feel for all of you.

Low production
I was confident that my SunPower system would perform as advertised, however, since day one I have been greatly disappointed by its low performance!
I’ve contacted SunPower 10 times about the low production of the solar panel system they installed on my roof, however they keep telling me that the weather is the problem; although they can’t tell me why the weather is only affecting 6 of my 14 panels.
Also, I have a friend nearby with a comparable SunPower system and the weather isn’t affecting his system which produces 100% of what it was designed to produce.
My system is only producing 82% of what it was designed to produce.
Six of the solar panels on my roof produce only 92%, 90%, 89%, 83%, 82%, and 69% of capacity.
The SunPower warranty says that each panel will produce no less than 98% for the 1st year.
When I looked at my roof, I noticed some problems with the system that SunPower installed.
The wires coming out of several of the micro-inverters were bent backwards sharply going 180 degrees to another component. It looks like the wires were too short and they forced them to reach their connection points.
Additionally, the production lights on several of the micro-inverters were not on. This was while the sun was shining brightly.
Lastly, the solar panels are installed at a tilt angle of 14 degrees instead of 34 degrees. In my area, they recommend 34 degrees.

False promises and no customer service
I started the process with Sunpower in March and was given an estimated installation date of June. After a lot of calls and emails I was able to get an install date of August 3rd. As of 8/31, 3/4 of the panels are installed and a few are in my backyard collecting dust and pine needles. I was told they will finish the install next week but there is no inspection date or activation date in sight. Save your time and energy (literally) and use another company.

This company is a disaster
This company is a disaster. I have their system in my home and it’s not been communicating properly. I’ve called customer service 4 times now over the past 2 months and have been blatantly lied to regarding getting this fixed and having a technician sent over. They continue to do nothing to fix the issue or following up with me. Stay away from this company at all costs!!!

Wow, horrible customer service.
Wow, Sunpower customer service is just awful. I’ve been waiting for nearly 2 months simply to get a repair appt on the calendar. Emails and texts go unanswered and all I get is excuses from the customer service number. I’ve waited on hold multiple times for a customer service supervisor who eventually just dodged my call. The roosters crowing in the background on the latest customer service call doesn’t exactly leave one with the sense that this is a professionally run company. I’m over 60 years old, and have never experienced such a poorly run company. Stay away at all costs.

Roof Leak
In May 2019, I entered into a contract with SunPower Solar for the installation of solar panels and the replacement of my roof. The agreement explicitly outlined the terms of the installation, which included the removal and installation of a Torch Down roof. The terms also stipulated a Workmanship Warranty of 10 years and a Manufacturers Warranty of 25 years.
In March 2023, I reported a significant leak issue that had developed in my roof. This raised alarm as the installation was relatively recent and the warranties provided ample coverage for such issues. After a prolonged period, a SunPower Solar technician finally conducted an inspection and confirmed that the installation of the roof had not been executed properly, leading to the leaks. The technician identified multiple locations on the roof that required attention.
In May 2023, I received an email from SunPower Solar stating that the company would not take responsibility for the roof issue and that I needed to contact the subcontractor directly. This sudden shift in responsibility was both unexpected and alarming, especially considering my direct contract and interactions with SunPower Solar.
Since May 2023, despite my best efforts to reach out to the subcontractor as directed by SunPower Solar, I have been met with a complete lack of response. This has left the leak issue unresolved and has led to further deterioration of my property due to water damage.
I am deeply disappointed by the lack of professionalism and accountability displayed by SunPower Solar throughout this entire ordeal. The initial inspection by technician clearly identified that the installation was faulty, putting both the Workmanship Warranty and Manufacturers Warranty into effect. The sudden change in stance and the subsequent lack of assistance have caused me significant stress, financial burden, and property damage.

Solar activation
Warren Grennan came out to see what was wrong with my solar system. What started out as a routine job turned into a nightmare. Long story short, my system was not installed very well and was also pre-commissioned incorrectly. Warren arrived on time and saw everything that was wrong and went above and beyond expectations to make everything right! He is very knowledgeable and personable and assured me over and over that he will not leave till the job was done correctly!! Warren did an outstanding job!! People like him are a valuable asset! Thank you Warren.

Don't walk away - RUN AWAY!
*Update: you might notice that SunPower immediately got back to me once they saw this review to tell me they're going to reach out to make everything all better. This is just a show for you reading this review. After several days of not hearing from them, they got back to me to say that a customer service person would be reaching out, and guess what? It's the same person who has been "helping" me for the last few months who can't even answer the most basic questions about my issue and has asked me multiple times for the plans that they already have (because they're theirs!). Worse than useless.

I'm not sure where to even begin with them. First, let me tell you that if you are approached by a sales guy named Ian Bamer, run. Sure, he did a great job selling to me, but while I've been struggling for over a year now to get my system operational, he's been copied on every email but has never responded. Either he has no asnwers, or he doesn't care because the sale's been made. Second, my journey with them is about 18 months, so I will try to be as brief as possible.
* Note that I had a functional system in place already with them, and it was covering about 60% of my usage. I just did a remodel and added roof space, so wanted to add new panels. Should have been easy, right? Wrong! They had to shut down the current system for this process.
* They worked out of order. The panel guys showed up first and were very surprised the electrical wasn't done. The guy was frustrated as though this happens all the time.
* They screwed up the design out of the gate. I wanted the backup battery to be on the back of my ADU. They said no problem, but when the workers came out to do the electrical work they said it was not a good location because the wires would be at a 90 degree angle. We agreed to put the battery on the left side of the house. Not ideal, but at least out of the way since no one walks through there. Note that this was a completely different crew and they had no idea what the team prior to them had done, and it took them hours of phone calls and revieiws with their main office to get up to speed.
* After about 5-7 more visits (each lasting days/weeks), all different crews, all having to spend hours on the phone trying to get up to speed (all disrupting me while I was on client Zoom calls, multiple times a day), they even had to get advice from my neighbor's contractor who had to walk them through the plans. But then they told me the battery couldn't go on the left side of the house because there was a bedroom on the other side of the wall. Seems like something they should have asked before they did all the electrical work!
* And each crew who showed up told me that the crew before them made mistakes they had to fix.
* So now the battery is on teh right side of the house blocking a significant part of the only open walkway to get to my backyard.
* On top of this, they had to run a conduit through my valuable storage space in my attic to get to the new battery location. They promised it would be out of the way, but it is NOT! It's blocking valuable space.
* To add insult to injury, one of the electricians told me the original location, the back of the ADU, would have worked perfectly fine.
* They agreed to pay my PG&E invoices during the delay but they have only paid three months. Have tried to contact them on this, but have heard nothing back.
* They lied to me for months saying the delay was because of PG&E, but PG&E provided me with proof that SunPower submitted the wrong plans, which was causing the delay.
* We failed inspection 3 times because of those crappy plans.
* I can no longer access my account at all.
* I've written to their COO to tell him about this horrible experience and am considering reaching out to him again since I can't find an escalation path within their delivery team.

Post Sales Service is terrible
I had 17 Panels installed In February 2023, They are the 425W panels supposedly the best they offer.
Late June, 2023 two of them stopped producing power and their installation partner came out 10 days later and determined that the microinverters were not working. They took measurements and photos that they forwarded back to SunPower for escalation, additional diagnostics and possible replacement of the two defective panels.
I have attempted on multiple occasions to contact their service and product engineering teams for an update and a timeframe for resolution. On 3 occasions after providing my details and case# I was put on hold and dropped after being on hold for 20 mins. When I did get through it was a finger pointing exercise, namely our Product Engineers have a large backlog and it will take 3-5 days to get back to you (that was 3 weeks ago). Then the response was we have not received a report from our partner who installed your panels (yes they did receive a report). I am still in limbo with 2 expensive panels not functioning (approx cost was $2K per panel).
As a former electronic engineer who has managed sales and support teams of over 150 people I have come to the conclusion that Sun Power support is seriously understaffed and poorly trained and that their panels are inherently unreliable with an unacceptable failure rate after only a few months of use.
I was considering adding a battery to my solar installation but I will not be including SunPower on the list of my potential suppliers.
I have researched other social media sites and the Better Business Bureau for comments on Sun Power and dissatisfaction with their service organization is a common complaint.
They need to stand behind their product. They charge a premium price for a substandard level of service.

Time to take legal action
Since March 2022 I have 3 miroinverters not working. Just like most people here are saying I am in the same boat. It's been over a year and no one has come by. I will review my options and bring this case to my lawyer and consider this a scam. I am done with them. And it has been two years already.

I have waited months to get my panels on my roof, I was told by my rep Joe S, that the panels were ordered months ago, he sad that the town is asking for an Agent letter that they will not provide, also will not give Project costs in detail to the town, Town said SunPower is not responding to any emails and calls, signed a contract to have everything up and running by September, and I don't even have half the project done or the panels on the roof, very Disappointed in this company's process, every other Solar company in my town has no issues, why is that?? I want answers !!!!!
