Don’t bother with the ticket insurance
Don’t bother with the ticket insurance. Total waste of money. We bought tickets on the morning of our intended visit. I’m disabled and have various health problems. I had a migraine on the way to the Zoo and had to turn round and go home as I was feeling really ill. I’ve looked at the forms on the ticket cover and I can’t fill in any of them to ask for a refund. I approached Whipsnade and they told me to contact Ticketplan. Disgraceful and a total rip off. Due to my poor health , I have absolutely no idea if or when we would be able to go again but it’s left a bad taste in my mouth so won’t be visiting in the future.
Don’t waste your hard earned money
Don’t waste your hard earned money , it’s so dissapointing, animals not seen I’m serious we hardly saw anything , the cheetahs were far away laying down not moving and so were the lions and the hyenas or hunting dogs were only TWO of them and we couldn’t see them only briefly through the trees and the maps hard to follow the areas massive and you keep repeating steps , the aquarium was rubbish full of guppy’s and not much else. Highlight was two hippos in water then getting out ! The restaurant was awful the food was cold my son had sausage and mash £13.50 totally cold and just overpriced thank goodness I opted for just chips , watered down coke a glass £3 .. £5 each adult thee was four of us on the train that took ten mins and went past animals that couldn’t be seen ! Or the accompanied recording telling us what they were was too late as we’d gone past it, the monkey forest was misnamed as there wasn’t a monkey to be seen ! Walked 1/4 mile down a dust road to be met with two big enclosures with NOTHING IN IT . I told everyone coming past don’t bother save your shoe leather .. honestly Whipsnade you should be ashamed of the way this is run and the lack of staff to chat with and ask directions was frustrating.. the sign posts need to be bigger and more explanatory as the map they provide is as small as a pin head and makes no sense.. we walked all round Europe the start of it was the lemurs and they were closed ! Ended up at the restaurant as we needed the toilets and guess what closed for renovations , why didn’t you renovate them in the winter while the zoo was closed instead of the first lovely sunny weekend in weeks ! We had to walk a long long way to find more round by the aquarium as the sign posts didn’t tell us there were toilets inside the restaurant ! Which we finally actually used later on after eating the abysmal food they brought to us , I took my granddaughter to the toilet she’s four and there were fifteen in the Que couldn’t believe it , two cubicles in a great big restaurant I can imagine in the school holidays the Que goes back to the car park ! All in all I can’t recommend this at all and will never re visit whipsnade zoo , London maybe further but far far better and easier to negotiate go for that option instead . Sad as this is on our doorstep and we wish we’d opted for Woburn safari instead this was a Mother’s Day treat from my son and daughter in law as I wanted to go .. the shop overpriced and after spending £55 on one sausage and mash , two chips , a kids meat balls and three drinks of coke ! Plus entry we were done yup that’s it we felt done .. this could be run so so much better come on sort it out ZSL 17,000 steps and we saw nothing that justified the prices .. please paint on the floor the arrows directing you to certain areas and make the signage clear large and visible and print the map better but for those who have reading problems the maps useless anyway someone asked me to help them as they couldn’t read !
Waste of time and money
I visited the zoo as a child about 45yrs ago I remember standing next to john Alderton and Pauline Collins at the giant tortoise enclosure.. 🐢 it was an amazing zoo.. I live in ireland now and took my wife to london and the zoo.. I told her how amazing it was. All I can say is what a letdown.. a zoo that's rundown with hardly any animals .. an overpriced complete waste of space, a Spanish couple stopped us and asked if we had seen any animals ..the best bit was the exit..please don't waste your money ..
Great talks
My partner and I had a great time at the zoo, and the staff were friendly and we loved the talks by Olivia, Ralph, Lucy and Jodie. Edith was also very helpful!
Experience and staff were great, food could have been better we ordered a mac and cheese that wasn't the best, so have knocked it down to 4 but overall pleasant.

I bought 5 tickets online along with insurance, but can't go to visit at that day, now I'm trying for refund but the page is not available, never buy a ticket with insurance absolutely rubbish,
Sparsely populated with animals
Sparsely populated with animals. Mostly 0, 1 or 2 of each animals. Lots of no shows (e.g. Lions, meerkats, African hunting dogs, Lynx, etc etc. A bit disappointing in that respect.

I went to Whipsnade Zoo over the weekend. Even though it was a rainy day, the experience was enjoyable. It's a pity there were no tigers, and I hope they get some soon. Expanding the aquarium would also be a nice improvement. Overall, it was a great day out, and I look forward to visiting again. Highly recommended!
Very disappointed would not go again.
Was very disappointed with the number of empty cages and closed areas.
For example not a single penguin in huge penguin pool.
One sleeping lion who looked like a tree branch, huge advertising about new cubs born, disappointed we couldn’t see them, understood when told they were too small but as videos were taken these could have been shown on out door screen.
Very few animals of interest on the whole after hours of walking with toddler and pram!
Very overpriced too.
deep disappointment
Wanted to express my deep disappointment after my recent visit to the zoo. The overall state of the zoo was significantly down, with evident issues such as run-down barriers, lack of proper enclosures, and a lack of information about the animals for visitors. I used to love visiting zoos around the world , and after my first visit to ZSL London , really I am saddened by the current state of the zoo in London, as a lover of nature is very sad to see the zoo in one of the most visited cities in the world in this state.
The food at the restaurant and overpriced tickets only added to my dismay.
As a nature lover, it was disheartening to witness the condition of some animals and the overall bleak environment. I hope that steps will be taken to improve the situation for the animals and visitors alike.
Sad Experience
It was just so run down. Heart breaking to see the Zebra and Giraffe enclosures - since when did these beautiful creatures walk on concrete in the wild? No greenery but a bleak and meaningless existence for these poor animals. Terribly upsetting and they just looked sad. I will never go to a zoo again.
My visit a few days ago.
I visited about 20 years ago with my family. It has gone down hill significantly I am sad to say. Barriers everywhere, work materials all over the place. Looks really run down. Looks a mess.Half the enclosures seem to have nothing in them. At the restaurant I had fish and chips which was awful. All batter not much fish and the chips tasted awful too. Left most of it.
I used to love this zoo. You cannot even get to the canal anymore for a barge trip. Totally overpriced. Very disappointing.
Why not to visit London Zoo and Penguin Experience
I just wish I had read these reviews before visiting London Zoo. I decided to buy 2 tickets for the penguin experience but you also have to purchase 2 zoo entrance tickets. Wonderful price of £170.00, what an absolute waste of money. We are elderly and didn’t want to go around the zoo, just wanted to meet the penguins. We entered the penguin beach area but there are no dings for penguin experience until you find a poster attached to a gate. The shop / cafe at the entrance was closed, so no cold drinks, there’s also no seating or shade whilst you wait. A couple of staff met us and we went for the H&S chat in the back of an old tool shed / builders yard, again no seating. We did then meet the penguins for 15 mins and then ushered out. It would be nice to have a lanyard, T shirt, brochure or even proper photos, nothing. £170.00 down the pan, what a waste of money and time. But it was an experience never to forget !
Had a lovely day out at Whipsnade
Had a lovely day out at Whipsnade. My only criticism is that the signage is very vague. Only says things like Asia or Europe when it should tell you which direction to the animal types
Attractions closed shops closed missing animals
Firstly, I would heartily not recommend visiting London zoo for the following reasons.
If you pay a small fortune for four people to visit and places to eat closed, attractions closed, missing animals, hardly any staff to be seen. I would think long and hard before wasting Your hard earned money on a pointless visit.
It’s very clear, London zoo is only interested in making money charging ridiculous prices for the basics when we left. I actually felt like I’ve been fleeced every penny that to get out of me .
Enclosure after enclosure, no animals to be seen I feel we could’ve had a better experience by looking on Google for pictures and video of animals.
Needless to say, I won’t be visiting again and neither will my party.
london zoo, friday evening
london zoo, went on a friday evening, ive never been to a zoo with so many people wandering around with beer or wine, the place was packed, i would say far too many, some extremely drunk and screaching, banging on the glass. enclosures are far too small and some animals showing signs of stress. probably due to small enclosures and drunk people shouting at them.

We went to London zoo on June 14th 2023. The weather was sunny and the tickets we had were brought via the universal credit scheme. When we arrived we were disappointed to dis over that a zoo as big as it is, they only have 2 mobility scooters for hire. Both were hired out so we had to hire a wheelchair. My husband required the wheelchair but, as I have a physical disability myself which affects my right side of my upper body, pushing a wheelchair was very painful and difficult for me.
The path around the zoo is not overly wheelchair friendly. We saw 3 lifts round the zoo and 1 was out of use. Despite there being a lift to the lion area, it takes you up 1 set of steps, there is then a steep winding walkway to get to the lions. When we finally got to the top, the lions were no where to be seen.
The toilets at the zoo were clean and accessible and the penguin beach is easily accessible from a wheelchair. Inside the reptile house the crocodile section is not accessible for wheelchair users due to only have steps.
We went for a bite to eat in their restaurant and the food was cold, not warm actually cold. When I mentioned to the lady at the till she told me there was a microwave so I could heat my food up! I did ask to speak to a manager and explained that for the price of the food I expected it to be fresh and hot - not cold from being left on a hot plate all day. I was given a full refund for the meals. The food that we had there, even after being heated in their microwave was poor.
However, overall, the weather was lovely, the zoo has a lot to see and the tickets we brought were good value.
We would go again but definitely with a mobility scooter and with a packed lunch.

Shout out to Isobel in the Supporter Contact Team. We had planned to go yesterday but had to cancel at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. We were offered the chance to rebook or to have a refund with no hassle. Thanks Isobel
Extremely disappointing experience!!!
Extremely disappointing experience!!!! Go to a pet store, you’ll see plenty more and it won’t cost the earth to enter.
Needs to close.
My 4 year old grandson was so excited to go to London zoo as a birthday treat in November. Now all he can recall is the gift shop and my main recall is the expensive and hopelessly staffed canteen. Found no elephants, one lion asleep, no tigers etc.The reptile house was devoid of reptiles, saw one small croc underwater and a few miniature blue frogs, not one snake. Not the zoo I loved as a child. Very short of animals, too much walking, too expensive- please don’t waste your money and disappoint your children.
