I wish I’d read the reviews about…
I wish I’d read the reviews about Whipsnade Zoo on here prior to spending £130 on taking my Grandchildren on Monday, it was a complete waste of money.
From arriving at the Zoo at 11am it took over an hour to actually get into the main entrance. The car park was packed and the queue to actually get into the zoo was horrendous. Prior to arriving an e mail we received from the zoo stated there was over 10.000 animals residing there, well in the 4 hours we actually had in the park we saw, 2 Giraffes, 5 Rhinos, 2 Hippos underwater, some Penguins and Meerkats and that was it…
You have to walk from one area to another which took ages there is so much walking it’s incredibly tiring, only to discover when you finally arrived at a particular animals enclosure there’s no animals to see ?
We didn’t realise that by paying extra you are able to drive your car through a lot of the Zoo from one specific area to another, this means you have to be aware that in many places there are cars driving past so need to extremely careful with children running out in front of them.
There were hardly any areas to buy a hot drink nor food which if we’d realised we would have brought a picnic.
This Zoo could be lovely, there is so much land there it could become a wonderful place to visit, however whilst it remains as it is I’m afraid we won’t be visiting ever again, next time we will go back to Colchester Zoo.
Never again
Went today for my birthday and took our 3yo with us. Many of the animals were not available but the MOST disappointing thing was most of the enclosures were so tiny for the animals. We stopped for a bite to eat (only 2 stands/cafes open) and served by someone who didn't know how to make TEA!?!?
Ended in the gift shop and I was served by a terribly rude woman who was getting snarky and rude with me for not carrying my wallet/cards with me (I've been using the card on my phone for YEARS now, with never a comment or issue....until now). She was so rude and wouldn't let up on the fact I was using my phone to pay. Even after paying, as I walked away, she made a comment about bringing my physical card in future.
I wouldn't ever return again.
Don't waste your money
Really looked forward to this trip, but so disappointed. Paid extra to take the car in, but still a lot of walking. Elephants brilliant, especially the little one. That is why it gets a two star review. However, Brown Bear has been put into "hibernation" so not on show, sloth bear euthanased recently, several toilet blocks closed etc. Often only one of each type of animal, so a breeding program must be a challenge. I know these things happen but communicate so visitors know. One member of staff spoke and was lovely, but the others were ignoring visitors. Oh, and take care on the roads as staff use the place like a race track, whilst visitors trundle round at 5 to 10 mph! Go to Woburn, where they have bears and staff who want you there.
Very poor
Not recommended. Everything in very poor condition, definitely not at "London standards". It feels like it's been closed for a year, and nothing was done in between. A lot of empty cages with a sign stating "sorry, no animals at the moment". We spent 90 minutes walking until we managed to see the first animal; and some animals are in a state that you can only feel sorry for them (A lion enclosed in a 60 sqmt fake "savannah" doesn't work). People are really nice, and you can tell there is a lot of effort, but something is not working. I think the whole idea of a zoo no longer attractive. I wanted to "tick this box" as I've been 10+ years in London and never done it, but not worth it.
Whipsnade ZSL
Whipsnade ZSL is the best zoo with a fantastic view, but the Viewpoint Cafe is let down by a rude manageress (K) who needs training in customer service! It’s worth paying to drive into the site, particularly if it’s raining. We were a family of 5 and stayed all day for a relaxed visit. Good family time!
I mean it was good but the worst thing…
I mean it was good but the worst thing is that one of my family members phone got taking so not a fun experience
Don’t waste your money
Don’t waste your money and time. NOT ENOUGH ANIMALS TO QUALIFY FOR BEING CALLED A ZOO! Whipsnade is the biggest con and the saddest disappointment for both adults and children. Avoid.
My family & I were a bit disappointed…
My family & I were a bit disappointed with our visit to the zoo. It looked unkept/ poorly maintained. No water in animal ponds, alot of the animals they said were present was not. You could count the number of animals you see. Tbh it’s a scam. The website said the animals have adequate space to live, they don’t. The animals looked sad to me. They ask for donation but I don’t see where it goes. I think its best to close down & refurbish. There are better attractions in London, so save your money & go elsewhere.
Waste of time and money
Waste of time and money. Very few animals to see. Very old facilities in need of much investment. Restaurant was awful, more like a factory canteen. Toilets dirty. £4.50 for a doughnut!! It may be London but that is extortionate. Wish we had read reviews first and we would have saved ££££'s.
We went to London zoo on Friday paid…
We went to London zoo on Friday paid £99 for 4 of us. What a disappointment. I honestly want my money back. There were hardly any animals to see and not worth the time and effort and money.
I spent over £140 on a day out at ZSL…
I spent over £140 on a day out at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo and yet again not all animals were present, it’s a hit and miss experience. There were no monkeys, lions or bears on this visit!
As this has happened on multiple occasions, I finally complained via email and received the following excuses from an employee called Ben in their Support Contact team;
- The animals enjoy indoor and outdoor sleeps
- They cannot guarantee where or when their animals are likely to be during the day
- We should have returned at a later time
I would suggest having some signage if the animals are not at a visitors view point to reduce disappointment.
Their website should also advise what animals are not present before purchasing tickets and planning a day out!
Signed up for a 1 year membership
Signed up for a 1 year membership. Noticed they were about to take £200 for another year and Tried to cancel my zsl membership by calling their helpline. Very unhelpful person on the phone saying she couldn’t help cancel it and I must have had an email warning them and they could have helped if I called 2 weeks ago. She told me no manager working who could help either and to try calling my bank and cancel myself. Annoying as it’s meant to be a company doing good for animals but has annoyed me, so I wouldn’t want to contribute with them again. Hopefully my bank have stopped the payment in time otherwise I have to go through a dispute payment.
What a waste of time
What a waste of time. Wish I’d read these reviews before going. Saw very few animals, most of those we did see were totally inanimate. Paid £103.50 for 2 pensioners, 1 adult and a 3 year old child. Should have saved my money!!!!
Most boring day out!
Most boring day out!
Nothing to do there for the kids( and adults), most animals are nowhere to be seen, a lot of walking involved…
Overall, I would definitely NOT recommend it.
Waste of money.
Flexible-ticket scam
Booked an 'all-year round flexible ticket' to be able to visit any day for the next 12 months (as advertised). We have a small child and not having to pre-plan is quite handy. On the day we wanted to visit we were told that even flexi-tickets need to be booked in advance, because of covid restrictions. Restrictions are understandable, but why keep selling more expensive, but useless flexi-tickets?? That's understandable too-to make money. ZSL refused to refund. Terrible customer experience without even visiting. Well done
I have recently visited London zoo ,it…
I have recently visited London zoo ,it was my grandsons 2nd birthday and I decided to go along last minute was aware you had to book online but also thought I would be able to buy a ticket on the gate ,when we arrived at 1pm ,which only leaves 3 hours in the zoo as you have to book time slots in November off peak season couldn't understand this ,they let me buy a ticket after some offish staff on the gate had to have exact money as couldn't give me change .
£28 for 3 hours horrendous price ,children enjoyed animals ,staff inside very helpful, I then went to buy a hot drink ,what a surprise no cash again only card ,we then saw a carrousel £3 extra for this !
We're then hussled out the zoo dead on 4pm ,didn't even get a chance to buy the photo as closed .
Won't be visiting again for a long time obsurdly priced .
Health and safety nightmare!!
My foot was caught under loose anti slip strips in the giraffe section, whilst I was holding a toddler, I went flying and both myself and toddler hit floor badly. The incident was awful and should not have happened, the park is clearly not maintained as many of the strips were only held in place with one remaining screw (despite each strip have multiple screws), clearly it hadn’t been checked for ages.
Contacted zoo and waited two weeks for a reply, no compensation was offered such as new jeans which were ruined or refund on our park tickets. Can never get hold of them.
There are many hazards around this park, such as a log missing on the railing of the cafe, means small children can slip through and would have a dangerous fall, uneven roads, cars driving through the park where people and kids are walking, no adequate sidewalks for pedestrians or for buggy’s and wheelchairs, so people forced to walk in the road with cars.
This place really needs to review its healthy safety measures as it’s an accident waiting to happen... and has already happened but they don’t seem to care.
London zoo is a massive waste of money
We bought a season ticket for zsl because we live near london zoo. Well what an absolute waste of half the money that was.
London zoo has got to be the worst zoo I've ever been too. It's over crowded with cages but no animals, every corner they are trying to sell you something and quite frankly it's a pathetic excuse for a zoo. They have a massive cage for a few exotic birds but then a tiny cage for gorillas, the saddest part is that I used to visit as a child and it hasnt changed in over 20 years.
The reason I say it was only a waste of half the money is because whipsnade is much better. Plenty space to run around plenty animals to see. The animals actually seem to have loads of space and arent cooped up in tiny cages like london zoo. Staff are friendly.
Oh and they dont have a million carts dotted round the zoo to sell you something.
So i guess we will be making the most of our season ticket but only at whipsnade. I wouldn't even pay for parking at london zoo it's the biggest waste of money.
Disappointed with our visit to the Zoo
Went to Whipsnade Zoo yesterday very disappointed. We went as a group of 6 adults and 3 children, cannot believe how many people they let in and I agree that there are too many cars allowed in. A lot of the animals were missing are they on furlough lol ???
Don't waste your money, there are other zoo's
Not sure where to start, the pricing is a bit over the top to be fair but most would pay for thier child's excitement but It's totally impossible to social distance during these times as I feel they are letting too many people in which means unless you're happy being on top of 20-30 people all the time you should kot go. there seems to be no one way system or adherence to it either, would love to know how many people actually pick up covid here...the souvenir shop is a rip off too, but actually saw more animals (teddy bears) than we did in the actual zoo so that's a plus. Won't be back
