Our experience with Affinity Care Recruitment was extremely disappointing and not what we expected from a professional recruitment provider.

After engaging the agency for a placement and paying a significant recruitment fee, serious concerns arose shortly afterwards regarding the candidate provided. When we raised the issue with the agency, the response we received was heavily reliant on contractual technicalities rather than a balanced or commercially reasonable approach to resolving the situation.

What was particularly frustrating was that the discussions we had with the recruiter during and after the recruitment process did not align with the position later taken once the issue arose. Despite explaining the circumstances and raising a formal complaint, the outcome remained unchanged.

We also requested records of the relevant conversations in order to better understand how the situation had unfolded, but were later informed that no call recordings were retained for the relevant dates.

The overall experience left us with the impression that once the placement fee is paid, there is very little flexibility if problems arise.

Recruitment fees in the care sector are significant, and agencies should stand by the guidance given to clients during the recruitment process. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here.

One aspect that may be important for other businesses to be aware of is the payment structure. In our case the invoice was issued shortly after the placement was confirmed and payment was required within 14 days, even though the candidate’s actual start date was scheduled more than a month later. This meant the period required to qualify for any refund under the terms had already expired before the candidate had even started work. Whilst there may be provisions for situations such as a candidate not turning up, it is worth carefully reviewing how the payment timeline operates in practice before proceeding.

We hope the company reflects on this situation and considers adopting a more balanced approach when disputes arise, particularly given the importance of trust in the care sector.

Our advice to other care providers would be to ensure that any important discussions or assurances are documented clearly in writing before making payment, as relying on verbal conversations may not provide any protection if a dispute later arises.
