Ripped off again by this company. Provided a contract I hadn’t signed and took monies from my account on return home without any evidence of reason. Vehicle hired via British Airways Holidays. I’m surprised BA associate themselves with this outfit.Avoid thus company at all cost.

Charged Twice by Avis Budget
I Pre-paid for my car hire through my flight agent so it should have been a formality attending the Avis Budget hire car office. Forms were filled etc and a charge was made against my credit card for insurance etc. I returned the car a week later, the car was inspected and all was good. A few days later I was charged for the car hire again by Avis Budget, a fee I had already paid the flight agent. Googling this sort of thing seems to be a thing with Avis Budget with mentions of the Luqa Malta Airport Avis Budget desk and others across Europe doing the same thing. A request has been made and I shall also be contacting my bank to inform them of an unauthorised charge being made without an invoice or an email stating the reason for the additional charge or even quoting the correct amount.
Terrible Experience – Still Waiting for My Deposit and Unauthorized Charge
I had a very disappointing experience with Avis Car Rental in Malta. It has now been over 15 days since I returned the car, and I still haven’t received my €1500 deposit back. On top of that, they charged an additional €248 from my credit card without any explanation or communication.
I have tried contacting them multiple times by email, but they simply don’t respond. This level of customer service is unacceptable, especially from an international company like Avis.
I strongly advise others to think twice before renting from Avis Malta — make sure you check your credit card statements carefully and be prepared for long delays (or no response at all) when trying to get your deposit refunded.

Everything was terible, we got dofferent car than we ordered (got extra small for 5 people!! After we dropped the car in perfect condition (full gas etc.) we were charger extra money!! For nothing. If we wanted explanation they never answered!!
Trustworthy
Trustworthy, honest. Helpful staff. I was concerned about my security deposit as I had had an accident. Airport manager was very helpful and reassured me. I received all my funds in a timely manner as I had taken full cover. I recommend 100%

Your rental was not booked with us, but through a third party: BSP AUTO. You must therefore contact then and send them your claim, which they will then pass on to our third party booking / broker department if necessary. Please note that we will not be able to deal with your request without this first administrative step from you.
No help when you need assistance
I rented a car for a week and had an accident. All paperwork has been provided, and the person who caused the accident covered the damage through their insurance. Despite completing forms in person, providing all required documents, sending emails, and seeking assistance over the phone, I have not received any refund or a positive response regarding my refund. I was instructed to fill out additional forms but have only received out-of-office replies to my emails. After six months, I still have not received any assistance.

Poor reviews did not reflect my particular experience
From reading these reviews I was very apprehensive on arrival late on a summer’s evening BUT it was misplaced.
The check in was straight forward with no pressure for additional cost and a larger car was offered and taken as a free upgrade.I wasn’t charged for late pick up as the time was reflected in my booking. The precheck before I took the car was thorough and any minor issues were noted without fuss. The car was fine and well presented/maintained. On return there was a careful but accurate check and then the car was accepted. Back without any shenanigans and I was off to check in.

Bad experience from Avis Malta
I hired from Avis Malta. 1,600 euros were supposed to be taken as a hold on my card, which is standard practice. However, this wasn`t a hold, the money was fully removed from my account and never returned. I have been 2 months trying to get Avis Head Office to act on this as my contract was with them, rather than the Malta Agents. I have provided all the evidence requested and to date i have just had the run around.
Avis weren`t the cheapest, but i went with them because i had good experience hiring from them in the past. That was a mistake.
Dangerous car provided by Avis Malta
Rented a car 8 weeks ago. The car had a dangerous tyre which I only discovered when I got a puncture and the mechanic removed it and it was completely worn to the metal. I returned the car and formally complained. In 8 weeks, 10 contacts to Avis I am yet to receive an explanation as to how this was allowed to happen. Trustpilot should provide a zero star rating as Avis would not even get that.
AVOID renting a car at Avis Malta
AVOID renting a car at Avis Malta! They are cheaters, all of them are criminals.
My rental fee should have been €57 for 3 days, they "deposited" €325, however the differnece has never been released.
After two weeks of return they charged my card with €192 and after a month with additional €90 with no reason. Return was contractual, no damage, no fines, full tank.
RUN AWAY FROM THEM!!?

They charge me 25.9 euro extra for late pick up after 2000 when it does not written in the booking confirmation. And then they deposit me 1100 euroes when it should be 1000 euro deposit. When I delivered the car they charge me extra 21.19 euroes for optional services without informing me and what it included.. It was no service.
I would not recommend Avis Malta Rental Car. Stay away!

First of all, please avoid booking a car with Avis Malta...
When you arrive, you will be received by a man who doesn't want to be there and who is especially arrogant to call you "bro" or to tell you "either you pay or you leave, I have other customers waiting".
To put things in context, when I made the reservation via the app (in Switzerland), I never received any confirmation (neither for the reservation nor for the confirmation that I took the car nor that I returned the car). What already appeared strange to me but I said to myself that there was perhaps a problem with my email address (naive). When we arrived at the office, at about 20:30 and we first had the pleasure to wait during 35-40min to enter the reception. We then were « warmly » welcomed by a Mr. who doesn't even say hello to us and who just says "drivers license and credit card" (very nice isn't it?). Then, we were told that we "had the choice" to pay 37€/day for a comprehensive insurance or to block 1800€ on the card for the deductible in case of accident. In principle, I don't like this kind of dilemma because I own a car and my insurance covers damage caused to a rental car, so I don't mind having to block a deductible on my card. But we are talking about 1800€ and yes, it is an amount that I consider totally inappropriate knowing that on my reservation it appears among the things included in the reservation, a "damage cover & Theft cover". When I told the receptionist that it was the first time I had been charged such an amount (having booked several times with Avis) he started to get angry and told me that it was either I pay or I get out and that I had to stop acting like a "big boy" because other customers were waiting. Well, then, on top of this amount that had to be blocked, there is 100€ for the gasoline (which is more or less usual) and another 200€ for the parking and speeding fines... So I wasn't expecting this one...
Well, the best part is that I wanted to cancel the reservation and leave when I saw such a lack of respect, but of course I would have had to pay the reservation fees :)
Finally, there is a 25€ supplement for late arrival from 8pm but don't worry, they don't mention it either ^^
Regarding the 35-40min wait, don't think it's due to the arrival in the evening because the next day around 2pm, it was the same situation. When there is only one counter open at the "Budget" reception and nobody at the "Avis" reception I guess you don’t need to be surprised...
It's a shame to experience such a disappointment with Avis because all my previous reservations in other countries went very well. I strongly advise against going through them in Malta and strongly encourage the Avis team to clean up their staff and organization on the Maltese island.
Conclusion is : I will consider booking with alternative agencies instead systematically booking through Avis.

Wish we had read the reviews before we rented a car from Avis. Someone ran into our car and the procedure on the night of the accident was very long (3hours) but, straight forward. The problem was that we were forced to go to the Avis main office the following day. The women were rude, unhelpful, combative and disrespectful. They had no intention of offering any assistance. Avis’ shining light was a man named Ryan. My advice would be to completely disband that office and fire everyone except Ryan. The best advice is to follow what everyone else said: go elsewhere!!
Avoid Avis at Malta Airport
I arrived at the Avis office at the appointed time to find a queue of people waiting, as there was only one staff member working. After about 40 minutes it was my turn. The staff member was apologetic and dealt with the paperwork in an efficient manner and then advised me that the car had yet to be delivered to the location and would be there in 20 minutes. I was not happy, but what could I do?
After 30 minutes I returned to the office and was told that there was traffic and the car would be there in 10 minutes - after 20 minutes there was still no sign of it. The staff member told me then that she could state categorically that the car was in the car park and the driver would be with me in five minutes - 15 minutes later I saw the car pull in.
This was a ridiculous amount of time to wait for the car and I am annoyed by the promises that clearly were not kept. I was given the email address of Customer Services in Malta and sent them an email. After three days, having not received an acknowledgement, I checked the email address in the site and emailed again. Two weeks later and I have heard nothing.
There were several other car hire companies at the site and I would strongly advise that you choose one of them; Avis clearly have no interest in providing a reasonable level of service and their Customer Service department provides no service at all.
On a positive note, the car itself was fine.
Worst experience of my life…
I filed a complaint with this company nearly 3 weeks ago and still haven’t had a response.
I am 7 months pregnant and with a 2 year old, landed in Malta at 11pm to find that the wrong car was assigned to me. A much, much smaller car than what was on display on my voucher. I showed the company my voucher and they showed me their computer screen which had a different car grade than my voucher. Obviously the receptionist computer screen meant more than my voucher. Imagine trying to put luggage, a baby car seat, a pram and a baby cot all in a Toyota Aygo. Then try get your seat far back enough to get comfortable to drive. Worst experience of my life. To make it worse, apparently they only had the exact number of cars available that were due to be rented. So I HAD to take that car or leave with none.
