We do want to reassure you that Chi Dog takes food quality and safety extremely seriously. Our meals are cooked in a regulated, human-grade kitchen, and we test every batch for microbial safety, including Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli, before releasing it for shipment. As long as the food arrived frozen and was properly thawed and stored at home, there would be no indication that the batch was contaminated or “bad.”

Just like people, every dog and cat is different. A food that works extremely well for one pet may not agree with another, and some pets—particularly those with sensitive digestive systems—may require a much slower transition to a new fresh-food diet. Our team is always happy to help troubleshoot feeding amounts, transition schedules, recipe selection, and other adjustments based on an individual pet’s needs.

Because individual tolerance and preference can vary so widely, we do not offer a money-back guarantee based on whether a pet likes or tolerates a particular food. That is also why we offer smaller sample packs and introductory discounts for first-time customers, so families can try Chi Dog before committing to a larger order.

We genuinely care about the pets eating our food and are always available to help customers find the best approach for their individual dog or cat.

Regarding the vegetables in our meals, yes—properly prepared vegetables can absolutely be a beneficial part of a dog’s diet. They provide important nutrients, fiber, and naturally occurring phytonutrients. Our recipes use cooked vegetables as part of a complete and balanced formulation, rather than simply adding raw, whole vegetables to a meal. Our diets are formulated to meet AAFCO nutritional standards and were developed with veterinary nutritional expertise.

We also understand that dogs vary in how they digest different ingredients. Some dogs may do better with vegetables that are mashed or broken down further, particularly if they have sensitive digestion. Seeing pieces of vegetables in the stool does not necessarily mean the dog received no nutritional benefit from the food.

We would also like to better understand what you mean by initially receiving an amount for a “1 pound dog,” as that certainly sounds like something we should review in the context of your specific order.

Hi, this is Curtis, Manager at Chi Dog. Thank you for the feedback, and we completely understand why the size and upfront cost of the supplements can seem like a lot, especially when you have a very small dog.

One thing we’d love to reassure you about is that our Home Cooking Supplements have a 2-year expiration date when stored properly in a dry, temperature-controlled environment. Keeping the packages tightly sealed—or placing them in a sealed zip-lock bag—in a pantry or cabinet is a great way to store them. There is no need to refrigerate them.

For very small dogs, this actually makes the supplements quite cost-effective over time. Because their daily serving is so small, one package can last a long time, and the extended shelf life allows you to use the product well before it expires when stored correctly.

We certainly appreciate the feedback regarding smaller package sizes as well. We’re always listening to what would make home cooking easier and more convenient for our customers.

Cats can be especially sensitive to changes in texture, temperature, and smell, so sometimes a few small adjustments can make a big difference. We recommend trying to puree the Chi Cat with a little warm water to create a smoother consistency, or gently warming the food to help bring out its natural aroma. You can also start with just a very small amount mixed into their current food and gradually increase it over time.

Every cat is different, and some simply need a little more time to adjust to a fresh, whole-food diet. If you still have some Chi Cat remaining, we hope you’ll give these tips a try!
