I am an Art Fund member. The Ranger’s House in Greenwich, operated by English Heritage has a dishonest website in that it fails to mention Art Fund Card holders can visit for free. All the other attractions in London which are free to visit for Art Fund members state this clearly on their own websites.
A very pleasant gentleman at the Ranger’s House admitted to me that their website was misleading and assured me that English Heritage would refund me the £27.50 I paid for the tickets as this problem had occurred before. English Heritage has nevertheless refused to refund the £27.50 even though the website is deliberately misleading. They are guilty of obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception which is unacceptable for any organisation, let alone a charity. In this busy world no one has time to check with the Art Fund website before going on to the Ranger’s House website to buy tickets. The Dickens Museum, the Foundling Museum etc all make it clear on their own websites that Art Fund Members can enter for free.
The poor response of English Heritage which was clearly drafted by AI is nonsense. The general public have no idea which organisations are funding English Heritage. If the Rangers House website refers to partner organisations then it must state who or which these partner organisations are otherwise it could be the British Legion, the Women’s Institute or Gays for Palestine. Who knows….
To also quote AI, ‘ticket pages for historical attractions should unequivocally make it clear who qualifies for free admission. Providing this information upfront builds trust, prevents frustration at the door and ensures eligible visitors can properly plan their visit. When free-entry criteria are hidden, potential visitors can often assume that the site is exclusively paid. A clear well- structured ‘Free entry and concessions’ section on a ticketing page ensures a seamless experience for all parties’. ‘Visitors need to know exactly which documents or IDs they must bring eg membership cards….’
I am awaiting the email address of the CEO of English Heritage from the latter in order to make a formal complaint about this sharp practice. It has not yet been forthcoming. I shall also be writing to the CEO of the Art Fund as it is clear that the Rangers House is accepting funding from the Art Fund but hiding the eligibility of Art Fund members for free entrance on their website. I have been told by the Ranger’s House themselves that I am not the first person to have been cheated in this way. All these Art Fund members paying unnecessarily to go to the Rangers House soon adds up to a tidy sum of money that should not have been received by English Heritage. Disgraceful.
English Heritage have now refunded the £27.50. Why they made such a song and dance about doing this is a mystery to me. The website of the Ranger’s House Greenwich needs to be changed pronto……!

I tried to buy a group reservation for Stonehenge. I corresponded with the English Heritage for a few days and then I completed my reservation with the help of the agents from English Heritage. I am happy because I don;t need to worry about the tickets once I am there.

Very pricey. The museum is the size of the average living room. It wasn't made clear to us that it included the priory as well.
