I don’t know what this is

If I could leave negative stars I would. This platform traps you and does a bunch of things you did not sign up for it to do. It scams you into signing up then you have to delete your profile but again they trap you with that. Stating you have to sign your name exactly how it’s displayed yet it always says your name does not match 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Dishonest site. When you click on Unsubscribe, it takes you only to a list of choices of how often you want email sent. Then they continue to send spam email (after you mark "Don't send") as though you communicated nothing at all.

I love the place, because of real people and real answers

In December 2024, I received what looked like a legitimate recommendation request from a former student through Gainrep. Trusting the context, I signed in and wrote a recommendation, assuming it was a normal professional networking tool. However, what followed raised serious red flags.
Shortly after using the platform, I discovered that Gainrep had started sending phishing-style emails to my contacts, even though I never granted permission to access my contacts. I immediately revoked any access via Google and deleted my Gainrep account.
Despite these steps, the platform continues to send deceptive messages using my name, including one this morning, months after I deleted my account. This is deeply concerning, not only because of the misuse of my identity but also because it suggests that Gainrep retains access in ways that are unethical and potentially unlawful.
Their mode of operation does not resemble a legitimate platform. There are multiple other users online reporting similar experiences, which suggests a pattern and possible ulterior motives behind the service.
Based on my experience and others', it appears to be a phishing scam disguised as a professional recommendation tool.

A scammy spammy website that looks 20 years old and charges for services that should be free. Signing up will be seen as a negative for employers. Shame on them

The worst experience I've had. I signed up and emails went out to my email list like a virus took over my gmail account.

From what I've seen to my other email accounts it looks like the emails went out to other gmail accounts. Too late to stop this insanity now... I just hope all the people that get the soliciting emails don't accept the connection offered and emails using their contact list are used to solicit others they know.

I terminated my account with Gainrep as soon as I found this happened without my knowledge. It is the most disgusting experience I've ever had online with a connection being solicited to me by another person.
