It all worked but the product was just OK.
The product arrived in reasonable time and well packed but was in itself a bit disappointing. No doubt this is simply a reflection of what the manufacturers are churning out this year, but the faux-lead was a lot more plastic-looking than previous pots I had bought of the same description. Maybe some more careful buying is needed.

Is this fit for purpose?
I’ve just talked to the people at idealist and was told the product needs to be treated with cement sealant once or twice a year and will definitely not last for more than a few years? It’s apparently an entry level product. Is this right?

Yes, treating fiberstone products with a water sealer designed for concrete is the recommended maintenance practice, as outlined by the manufacturer and noted in the instructions on the product page. This is a standard approach for preserving the integrity and appearance of any stone-based material used outdoors.
That said, sealing is a recommendation - not a requirement. Many of our customers choose not to seal their planters and still enjoy them for years without any issues. It simply helps extend the life of any fiberstone planter in more extreme climates or when exposed to heavy moisture.
Our planters are crafted to offer a strong balance between price and quality. While they may be considered entry-level in terms of maintenance, they deliver exceptional value, especially when you consider that similar stone planters of this size are often priced two to three times higher. With or without sealing, they remain a durable and attractive choice for outdoor spaces.
