I tried to meet up with a deadbeat named Leo to potentially adopt Scout, his ALLEGED GSD puppy, Leo turned out to be a complete scammer, lying about his location because once he agreed to meet, he insisted there were toll costs which was bull because I purposely selected a location less than 5 miles from him for HIS convenience, then he has the nerve to tell me that because HE was stood up in the past, that I had to suffer by paying him "half" before even getting to meet the dog and that he needed a full gas tank as well, like that was my obligation, his gall was unfathomable. I reported him and sent screengrabs of our entire exchange to one of the "Top Dogs" of the site more than two days ago and have yet to hear back.. I understand it's the weekend, but that shouldn't matter when it comes to lives at stake, especially since the site boasts to want to keep animals out of shelters, which don't keep a M-F schedule, they are open 365/year. So direct contact capability with admins when the need to report a scammer occurs should be an option. Someone said they are good/quick to handle complaints, not sure what sure what her definition of quick or good are, but she must be used to waiting. I could understand the delay in response if this was a 100% free to use site, but it's not, and even if it was, there should be a response within an hour or at maximum same day as the site boasts doing what's best for cats and dogs who need rehoming, well guess what? Keeping lowlifes who discourage people who are trying to do the right thing, rather than make a dishonest quick buck, off their website in a timely fashion as soon as the threat is identified, is what's best for cats and dogs in need of a forever home in my viewpoint, now am I right or am I right?

Beware of a guy named Joe who listed a female baby Yorkie named Colby. He requested we send 299.00 directly to him which clearly is against the rules established by get your pet.com
I believe the website is legit but unfortunately they can’t verify each guardian who post on their site.

I am very upset regarding this site people that are participating on this site should love pets. I rehomed my pet in May here it is August & he sent the dog to get euthanized at a shelter but the whole time sending me pictures of how happy Rocy is how much they love him it was all a big LIE. This such a sad situation and in very angry. Please everyone please be aware of the people on this site. The same way he sent me pictures he could of told me there was a problem. I'm devastated.

My experience with getyourpet was wonderful. I did not want to place my pup up for adoption, I love her, however due to my work schedule I felt that I was not giving her the amount of time, love, and attention that she needed. Once I put pup‘s profile on your site, I started getting responses immediately. Something about one potential adopter stood out to me, she was very warm and asked a lot of questions to ensure compatibility. I love that she worked from home so my pup would have a lot of attention, also, she had a pet for 16+ years that passed away due to old age so that told me she was in it for the long-haul. The site was very easy to manage and I did not need technical assistance, but it was available to me had I needed it. We exchanged phone numbers and she said that it would be OK if I FaceTime or even visit at Willow as she saw that I was very emotional during the transfer. Although this was not something that I wanted to do, it was very bitter sweet, I feel that through your site, my pup will have a great home.

We wanted to adopt a kitten and ended up with 5! Found great homes for all, including the one I kept. Still in touch with previous owner. Easy site to use, no pushy pet owners, friendly and reasonably priced. Using site now to find a dog!!

I thought this place was legit, until I saw some scamming. Someone put a 1 month old Yorkie named Bella and then another photo named Nina and Bella guardian. I sent two emails to alert the responsible party and it is still on the site. Be very careful. They probably want emails to sell or more .

I just wish a had a dog that listens to me

We got an incredible dog and he has been with us for two weeks now. Overall we are happy to have found our lovable family member. We were lucky he was up-to-date on all shots, healthy, and we were given many supplies by the previous guardian.

We started looking for a pet on this website in July of 2020 when everyone on the planet was looking for one. We talked with 23 families over the course of eight months until we finally found a match for our family. It took a long time, but ultimately, we ended up with a great dog.

So here's why I knocked off a star:

I don't quite understand why they charge ($99) --it sounds reasonable compared to shelter costs, but I understand why shelters charge money. They have employees to pay, physical space to pay, food and supplies.

Also, and THIS IS IMPORTANT a shelter will ensure all of the animals get vaccinations, are microchipped, are neuter/spayed, and are healthy (having spent time with a foster from shelter) before you adopt! GetYourPet does not do any of that...and if fact, if you read other reviews you will see that people have ended up spending quite a bit to return the pet to health.

The only service they provide is the website itself (which costs money to maintain (but it is a very clunky interface) and answer email questions (which is very slow or not at all). In addition, they make money through advertising on the website.

So I don't understand the need to charge $99 -- again, it sounds like a bargain, but what are they providing for that?

They say they offer a "legal" adoption, but rehoming agreements can easily found online. The wellness checks from their network of vets generally offer the "wellness" check at a discounted rate anyway (much less than $99). PetValue coupons are useless because they have gone out of business, and the Rover coupons offered are available to anyone.

So again, what are you getting for the $99?

Most frustrating is that there is no way to speak to anyone --only email and in my case the interface was so clunky that I was unable to communicate with the guardian (after we had agreed to meet again to exchange the dog) because the guardian had suspended the account (she was getting bombarded with requests). I wrote customer service and never got a response back. Luckily the guardian opened the account again to communicate with me so we could finalize the adoption.

Again, overall we were grateful for this site and it definitely was an easier process than going through a long shelter application/interview process. It was also great to know the previous guardian and to be able to remain in touch with an "open" adoption!

If you are considering this site, go for it. Just be sure to do your homework and understand what you are getting yourself into. A shelter will ensure the dog is neutered and has all shots--you won't have that guarantee here.

One last tip--I suggest you insist on meeting up with the owner in a public place. This will allow you to see the dog in an environment where they might not be as comfortable. I would recommend asking to take the dog for walk (with the guardian). Go with a list of questions and ask them to provide you the previous vet records. You will learn a lot through the vet records.

Giving 3 stars because I ended up with a best friend.

This service is much more convenient than most. A lot of pet adoption services have become too expensive and selective for many potential adopters. When I found this one I was really excited.

Here was the catch, for me. When I adopted my dog, he was not up to date on his shots and had a skin condition. He also was underweight. When I met him, I could see he was underweight and missing some fur but I took him anyway - I couldn’t leave him. I could tell the little guy had been well cared for at some point. The toys and supplies given to me were top shelf, and his teeth and nails were in good condition. Maybe his health just fell to the wayside for the past year. However, I did end up paying upwards of $1,000 in vet fees to get him up to date on his shots and medicated for his skin.

Once his health issues were resolved, it was all smooth sailing. He really is a perfect dog and wonderful companion, and I am very lucky to have him in my life.

Worst website ever if you are trying to rehome a pet! The site kept booting me off so when I got messages I wasn’t able to go back and read them. When I got in contact with their support group (which is through email. No live representatives) After sending four emails no one got back to me!!! So their might have been some wonderful people looking to adopt my kitty and I could not even get to them. It’s was so upsetting and frustrating. I would not recommend this site at all!

What an amazing experience! I found the most adorable, loving and gentle dog I could imagine. This site is really an incredible place to put homes and animals together. I am very grateful to everyone who contributes to it! <3

Easy to use, We got a great dog.

Being able to find a great home and owner for Shelby was a godsend. It's amazing how much easier this was than shelters and I can't recommend this enough for any owners agonizing over the decision to rehome but rehoming is great for pets if they need it

There is not a live person to speak to! We have an issue with an adoption and have reached out by email and tried the person who handed us the dog! This dog is nothing like described and had made us fearful. I hope you respond and agree to a phone call. I will give you my phone number thru my personal email.

EDIT: Following the review, I received a kind email from Brian, which I truly appreciated and they were going to follow up on the case.

I love the concept, however they sadly allow scammers. Hopefully, this rarely occurs and it happened to us... I was also disappointed by the communication I had with the company as they told me they have absolutely no control over who supposedly claims to be a "guardian" and will allow anyone meaning any adopter/guardian. Sounds safer to adopt through a reliable shelter.

I had a great experience using the Get Your Pet Program. It is as simple as the website says, You pay nothing until you have possession of your pet, and the fee is $99 only. I loved the fact that I got to meet with the Owner and the Pet before purchasing.

Get your pet is a good site both for adoption and for finding your pet a new home. I recently had to find our dog a loving home. She was placed with some wonderful people who have 5 acres and a pond. She will be the only dog and I am sure get very spoiled.

I could not be happier with your service. I've never seen a site like this and was hesitant to use it but I'm so glad I did. This unique service is perfect for real dog lovers (and cats too). Frustration rating for this site - ZERO.

Here's the backstory so you can fully understand how helpful this company is and how thankful I am that I found them.

My son's dog, Cisco, was hit by a car. Cisco was the rock that we depended on to protect us and to love us. We were traumatized.

Even my dog, Ava, was lost and started acting out. She had no one to play with or to show her what to do.

In an effort to find another dog, I spent hours every day for about two weeks checking all the rescue agencies, want-ads, Craigslist, dog adoption sites and SPCAs in our area and several states surrounding us.

I found lots of dogs, but the cost prohibited me from adopting any of them - some were as high as $2,000. This wasn't to adopt/purchase a registered purebred - it was for a mixed breed rescue.

I'd gotten a response to a Craigslist ad I submitted, it was only the next state over. So I contacted the owner and... long story short... it was a scam and very frustrating.

That was the day I found Get Your Pet. I registered, searched your site and found a dog only twenty minutes away. A complete background and photo was given for her so we knew what we were getting. I kept looking for "the catch" but there wasn't one.

I asked to meet the dog that day, the owner responded and we are now the proud owners of Lily - exactly the dog we needed.

The previous owners were not given any money - no re-homing fees. They found a loving home for a pet they could no longer care for. That's all they cared about.

The $99 I paid to Get Your Pet when we formally adopted Lily is the best money I ever spent. They include a written 'bill of sale' that confirms we are the new owners - very important. They have other nice perks to go along with the service - but I didn't really care about those. We just wanted a dog we could adopt at a price we could afford.
