I recently instructed Mason Wright to carry out a RICS home survey on my first home purchase. From start to finish they were professional and informative. They explained the process and made it really easy and quick to arrange. I called the office once I had received my report for some further guidance. I completed my aftercare form and the surveyor called me the next day to answer my questions. I would highly recommend this company.

I have used Mason Wright Associates a few times now and they provide a high level service!

Their reports are very comprehensive and include photographs.

Mason Wright were one of the companies who delivered a quote via an online portal 'Local Building Surveyors'.
Three of those who quoted rang me up.
It was only Mason Wright who increased the quote, saying that after looking at the house for sale online, it had been extended and therefore needed to be increased. The other two who rang held their quote after asking about the house.
I had checked the reviews of MW on their site, and sure enough, quote issues surfaced.
So I rang them, told them about this pattern of behaviour, and declined. Since they record all calls for Training and Quality purposes, they can use it going forward.

I used Mason Wright Associates for a RICS Level 3 Building Survey on a terraced house in September 24.

It was very easy to arrange and they were able to contact the estate agents and arrange to access the building, without my involvement.

The survey seems to be pretty exhaustive, covering everything that you would expect a full L3 building survey to include. It takes into each element of the building with it's own section and rating, with pictures where appropriate.

The survey it's self is still very hands-off, so they can't really give you a lot of information, good or bad, including estimated costs or who exactly to refer the problem to. They tend to just suggest that anything where there 'could' be a problem get's referred to a specialist in that area. I don't think this is particularly unusual, as there are clear and obvious limitations to a survey in terms of what they can uncover and also be expected to know as a general surveyor, but it also doesn't really give you any definitive answers in terms of the condition of the property (again, possibly not unusual and this might just be how these surveys go!).

One thing I wasn't particularly impressed with however, is that the report is obviously not 'written' by anybody. It would appear that the surveyor goes through the house, ticks some boxes on some software and a computer spits out a generalized document based on this. The result of this is a huge report. Mine was 118 pages long and was very, very difficult to follow and digest.

For context, the property is a 1930's terraced and so the number of pages would probably be expected to be higher than average, but the report doesn't read very easily as a result of the (I expect) computer generated text, so it doesn't really flow very well and leaves you (in my opinion) in a lot of cases, with more questions than answers.

I must say that there is a facility to contact them and discuss the result of your report, but I didn't use this as I talked it through with my builder afterwards instead.
